Eh, to each their own I guess. Personally I think the R1 figure looks better than the ANH figure (and I'm strictly going by pics as I've never seen either in person). I also still stand by my view that, assuming you want a really accurate ANH Vader, the R1 figure would be an easier conversion (unless your not bothered by the gunmetal eye sockets, but IMO that completely throws off the look of the face and would have to be fixed). The truth is NEITHER looks like ANH Vader out of the box. Both require modding, plenty of repainting, and replacement of some parts if that's what you're really after.

I DO think that, if you're not going to mod anything at all, this one looks better as is.

I know it's become a dead horse at this point but I just wanna say one more thing... regarding the chest armor, I doubt it's too wide. Vaders chest armor was always really wide, it's just you don't see it in ANH because of the tunic... and yes HT ANH Vader has correctly colored shoulder bells (but horribly innacurate chest armor paint), but this one has more accurately shaped bells. They don't hang slightly under the armor like they usually (always?) did in ANH, but there is OT precedent for how they're attached on this figure.

Alright, I'm all done! Both figs are awesome.

But the R1 is better!:pfft::lol

The R1 chest plate is much too wide for ANH Vader. Not only is it wide, but it has the attached shoulder bells like ESB and ROTJ Vader. It also has to do with the fact the dude playing R1 Vader is a beast, even compared to Prowse I think.

One of the defining aspects of ANH Vader, at least to me, is the sloping shoulder silhouette due to the should bells sitting lower than the chest.

Yeah that's another big plus to me. I can put this Vader up on the shelf and still have it look awesome until I eventually get around to modding it (if I actually decide to). But with the ANH I'll have to start modding the thing the second I pull it out of the box, if I want it to look halfway decent and respectable.

Yeah but like I said a couple pages back, it appears that is a mod you might be able to make with this figure, to lower the shoulder bells and set them in a bit for more of that ANH look.

Agreed. A firm consensus will show itself in a couple months as people receive this and the high wears off and an honest opinion starts to emerge. Also we'll see how the mods take shape. I've been around way too long to think that people will actually be satisfied once their figure is in hand and they start really staring at it.

As I've said, I imagine the best possible ANH Vader is likely a combination of parts from both ANH and RO Vaders. There will be several of those being made.

Just as HT generally designs it to be.

Can't wait for ESB Vader to hit, when both ANH Vader and R1 Vader will then be deemed "crap". :lol

You should have a different worries in 10 years than collecting dolls

Even though it's meant to be ANH era, this fig shows how nice a HT Empire Vader will be. Especially if you watch the vids DeanKnight posted on YT.

That being said, this is just a great R1 Vader on it's own and I think with some work it can make a killer ANH Vader as well.

... and then in 10 years we'll look back at the ESB Vader and think it looks kinda crap as well. :D

No by then, people will look at it with a level head. They'll only think that one (ESB) is crap right when the RotJ one comes out. :lol

I don't think anyone "worries" about collecting dolls. Unless they're afraid the dolls are going to come to life and kill them in their sleep or something, which at that point, I don't think they'd collect dolls in the first place.

They do it because it's a hobby and interest of theirs, regardless of what age they are. It's not like every 10 years of your life, you're supposed to forget and drop everything you've ever liked for the previous 10 years and start from scratch in acquiring new hobbies and interests for the next 10 years.

Gentlemen...gentlemen.... step away from the computer.. It's a beautiful day outside. This kind of OCD will only keep you clad in Tshirts and un-laid.:)

It's nothing to do with 'OCD' or how 'the weather looks outside'...it's knowing how a 1/6 scale darth vader should look like...and that this R1 version 'bar a few improvements' over the ANH version is still a long way off from being accurate...
