That face expression is weird...doesnt capture the menacing and evil expression from the movie.

I have pre-ordered the Emperor from Kotobukiya, looks very good to me though, their quality never fail to impress me.

Well there goes that plan......woke up this morning to check HT Facebook, and you'll never guess what HT have wasted their time and resources on now. Another Harley Quinn version !!! Seriously such a crap movie, and what is that 3 or 4 versions of one character !

Geeeezz, some people gonna be ****** off ! Me included.

And JJ Abrams to do Ep9. Man, what is the world coming to ?

Looks like he is the father of the bride with that smile.

The Emperor seems like he would have been a sculpt that HT would absolutely nail, not sure what the problem is over there.

I don't think that sculpt is the sole issue here, as was pointed out, the eyes look dark, almost like natural eyes, not vibrant yellow and red like the Sith contacts.

The problem is, beyond subtle expressions in the face, HT seems to struggle more often than not with getting the expressions right. For example, the DX06 smirking Jack Sparrow looks like a sneaky smirk fitting of the character, where the same expression on the DX15 Jack, in prototype at least, looks like some creepy guy trying to lure someone into a rickety van. The Age of Ultron Hulk is supposed to have an angry, roaring expression but something off with the tension in the skin of his face makes it look more like he's just yawning than truly angry.

Same here with Palpatine, something subtle is standing the way of this portrait looking like a menacing grin of satisfaction and looking like someone happy to see a family member he hasn't seen in ages, which it currently looks like.

HT is trying to recoup the investment on that unique body.

Maybe this is considered a great movie in Asia? I was just watching the fight at the end of Godzilla vs megalon, and I thought how much acid needed to be dropped for the choreography, directing, and editing of that scene. They must have had some the Woodstock acid or something. anyway, the point was in asia, they can like different things.

It would be one thing if this was a ROTS Emperor. He was much more cocky right after killing all the Jedi and seizing power, and the smile would have worked much better. But this is a ROTJ Emperor, and he was just pure evil and menacing by then, so this sculpt just seems really out of place.

Maybe the reason it's still not up for preorder is because they're working on another sculpt.

The deadpan serious look is what I hope for with this release.

He did so much gurning and mad laughter in ROTS it detracts from what a truly despicable character he actually is. Any grin sales too close to that pantomime villain.

I used to feel that way too, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Think about it, Mace Windu beat him and had him dead to rights. The "are you threatening me" and "I am the Senate" lines show that he's still as evil as ever, but after Anakin came in and turned on the Jedi, and Palpatine took control of the Republic, he had to be feeling on top of the world. Even an evil ******* like him can laugh at his good fortune, plenty of villains do it. He had to be feeling unstoppable and invincible that the Sith ruled again, so the mad laughter is understandable in that moment.

I'll probably eventually pick up the HT when it goes on sale. In the meantime, my SS version is going nowhere. (Can't believe it...)
