Yes, in theory, this is a convention exclusive and will be made in fewer quantities than a typical release. A smaller run would generally require a higher price tag to make up the difference.
Granted, we don't the production numbers, but suffice to say HT wants their same profit margin no matter what it is.
And also, Greed.
Impossible.............
Thinking these companies sell their toys below actual cost is ridiculous. They sell them at actual cost receiving enough to "keep light on". The pics of the owners high priced automobiles are conspiracies to ruin their good name. Another tactic of those people who cannot afford the figures bashing the company.
Who's to say this "exclusive" doesn't have a large production run??????
Greed- period. HT wants to make as much money as they can with each release. Don't blame them. It's just not justified and transparent IMO.
I don't understand the price either, shouldn't this be $130? You get two guns, 3 pairs of hands, an outfit, and a sculpt of Chris Evans' stunt double. I think someone needs to tell Hot Toys / Sideshow that April fools was a long time ago.
There is no "reason" in luxury items. These figs are luxury items. Simple as that.
Now pay your licensing rights, hire artists to sculpt a head, design a 1/6 body, design very elaborate packaging and get it printed and manufactured, make 3,000 of them, get them distributed to various vendors all over the world, pay for marketing, and dont forget to pay yourself and your employees plus rent for your office space, and if you can do all that for under $150 per figure, then Hot Toys should hire you to run their company...
Ok. Here is a simple test to see whether you should get into a discussion about pricing of Hot Toys figures. Below are two pictures. If you can correctly identify Howard Chan, president of Hot Toys then you may enter the discussion:
um HTs hired KatoE to do the clothing for the new Joker 2.0. he was charging $1000 for just the suit. nothing else, but the suit. no figure, no accessories, no body....just the suit.
now yes, "mass producing" a figure with his clothing of course brings costs down, which is why the new Joker 2.0 is not like $1500. Its $274.99

ShadowX81 got schooled.
i think thats the major problem here. Im not sure if anyone is old enough to understand how the world economy works. Oil prices effect the costs as well..
Uh... yeah. You kinda missed a big old variable right there. (I've highlighted it to make it easier to spot). In case you missed it, the worldwide economy has been flushed down the cludgie (Scottish term) over the course of that year, meaning fluctuations in the currency between HK and the USA, rising materials costs, rising costs in shipping, customs, etc. All of these have an impact.
Or do people here really think Hot Toys are simply raising prices for the sheer hell of it?
The economy isn't getting any better so prices will be getting worse
I'm with Shadow on this one. Their overhead has not increased that significantly in the course of one year. Period. That being said, I really dig this figure, and am still very tempted at the current price point. Damn you, Hot Toys.
