Wow, does not look like the early pictures. What happened?
Looks fairly similar to me. I tend not to put much stock in these early final pictures because it's always the stage where people get panicky and then people who get it in hand wind up mostly satisfied.

Really just looks like his right cheek is puffy. Paint could come down to lighting but obviously the proto is going to be sharper. Bridge of the nose looks a bit wider, but don't know if that makes sense. Otherwise it's pretty close.

No I get why they did it. I just Dont like it. I Dont understand why no company can make a good ford sculpt. Hard face to make I guess?

Apparently impossible. I mean we've gotten the HT Indy disaster, SSC's stoner Tan Solo, then HT's Harrison Bored as Bland Solo with SOFTSCULPT(R) technology.:(

This head does seem to have different hair to smiley Han, but maybe it's a shadow.

Inigo, MJ Choi and Beastmaster (most recently) didn't have a problem. :)

First off that mj is a masterpiece, but all private parties. No major company can pull him off. That sideshow hoth sends chills down my spine

Yeah it's a different situation when it's smaller companies making small runs as opposed to a company like Hot Toys or Sideshow mass producing figures. They just aren't going to be as hands on and its pretty impressive that most figures (from Hot Toys at least) turn out as good as they do.

The bridge of the nose looks a bit wider and it appears he's wearing some rosey lip gloss.

I bet it looks good when it arrives.

Every one of the three artists I mentioned are open to contracts and do freelance work. Hot Toys, Sideshow or whomever just needs to pick up the phone if they want a great Ford sculpt. But these three guys are by no means the only ones that can do it, so at the end of the day, I've always said, it's about art direction and project commitment. HT and Sideshow simply don't care enough about likeness and authenticity, not by a long shot, even if they BOTH make some great products/figures.

Woah. That is quite a large generalization. We honestly don't know what goes into the production and approval of these figures. Given the insane amount of detail that HT delivers, it's beyond hyperbole to say that it's simply an issue of them not caring.

Trevor's sculpts are great, but like it had been stated many times, they lean towards caricatures, and that it obviously not the direction HT goes. Subtlety is hard, especially at this scale, and I have never seen a realistic custom Han or Luke sculpt that really impressed me. Obviously a lot of this is personal preference and opinion as well.

It's also important to remember that Lucasfilm has final say on the sculpts.

We can all disagree on our onions of these sculpts, but to simply say that it's a mater of HT not caring is ridiculous.

On the production you can see the lines to the left of his mouth; on the proto you can see the lines to the right of his mouth.

Therefore implying that they're pretty close, but for differences in lighting. And as Wor-Gar noted,

Wor-Gar said:
Looks like too much red saturation.

Makes him look like he's wearing too much make-up. Which might explain Han's creepy smile...

That doesn't mean they would ever ask for a super realistic and authentic rendition to be changed to something that doesn't match the source material.

It's not a generalization, it's an observation years in the making. I also didn't say they didn't care - what you wrote, even though it uses one of the same words as what I wrote, carries a completely different meaning. I said they don't care enough - they don't care as much as many collectors - it is not their top priority. Thinking that the goals of a business align with yours as a collector is a generalization and about as far from the truth as one can possibly get.

When HT released Indy, you can be sure no one there thought their sculpt looked any more like Ford than collectors did. If you also believe that licensors are as critical of an authentic likeness as collectors... Then you haven't been collecting nearly long enough.

That's about all I have to say on this subject. At the end of the day the proof is in the pudding as they say.

Great comparison - the top right looks noticeably off - almost a chubby Tom Cruise. The bottom Luke proto pics really do look so good and the difference to what's above is very clear.

Fortunately, because I PO'ed so early and sent some e-mails, all of you guys are getting the top version, but I'll be getting the bottom version.:yess:
