Hey at least it's cool to have a wife that will at least be into superhero movies:clap

I'll admit that after the 2nd viewing, Stark character ark post Avengers and remote control IM robots plus little IM, War Machine / Iron Patriot action plus vague villain motivation has left a sour taste in my mouth.

However, the big surprise did not bother me.

I could see it a second time and not be bothered....to me Mandarin was not that key to the film, just a...oh better shut up

Spoilers:
I wasn't bothered about that part with the mandarin. I already saw him as a ridiculous joke before I watched the movie. The look, the dialect.. I mean come on, who was this guy? LOL. I didn't find him menacing or "cool" in anyway going by the trailers. So I was very happy with the outcome of it all.

Did you pick up on a lot more of the cool subtleties than you did the first time?

Yes sir, definitely. The first time I watched it, it felt like everything passed through quickly and I was trying to catch up with all the awesome things happening on screen, the story, the conversations and the details. Now having seen it before I could focus more on the stuff I didn't the first time.

I can see myself liking this movie even more than I do now when I get to own the blu-ray, I can see myself watching this over and over again as I've done with The Avengers (and still do).

I'm guessing the "twist" is Mandarin builds a huge IM suit to fend off the army of iron men tony made.

Yup, sounds stewpud, passing fo sho now.

i thought it was a very good movie...not great. i think i'll need to see it again to appreciate it more. my wife loved it!!! the mandarin was a likeable guy. :)

People like Bullseye have the nerve to come on here and bash me for expressing my opinion about the film twice. Yet people on here have written the same thing over about 6 or 7 times. My main problems with the film are this ( and from what I have read most other people issues aswell)

Mark 42 is weaker than all his other suits, could be argued that it creates a sense of danger and tension but then the constant one liners and lighthearted tone take this away anyway. Iron Man gets more time in a tag team superhero film than his own. The manadarin plot twist plays up to the comedy tone, not cool when you have a big fan base which is expecting a bad *** villain. The motive for the villain is vague ( we're meant to believe that a guy who gets stood up by Tony Stark wants to rule America). Tony Stark or Iron Man doesnt save the day, his girlfriend does and he manages to get shrapnel removed from his heart even though we've been told that he needs this arc reactor to stop this.

To me personally, its like Shane Black watched the other films maybe once and didn't take notes.

Oh boy I hope you're not right, sounds like another director that doesn't follow comics like the idiot who did Daredevil and Elektra and Ang Lee who we can tell knows nothing about the Hulk. Which is a shame because he's a fantastic director, but should've never took the film. :slap

At least Jon F was somewhat of a comic fan.

My thoughts from midnight show:

1. Shane Black was not the right choice to direct an Iron Man film. It was a great character piece of Tony Stark, but Iron Man was not utilized well. For that matter, neither was Iron Patriot. Did he actually fire a weapon once?

2. RDJ was amazing, Cheadle was great, all around good cast.

3. I wasn't actually clear as to what the bad guys ultimate goal really was?

4. Back to the armor of Iron Man. Making him underpowered throughout the film, I understand it was used to serve the story, was a mistake. His musical chair of armors at the end while cool, each armor just got chewed up really easily and made Iron Man look weak.

Couldn't have put it better myself... to add to #4

Like someone else said, Pepper saving the day didn't help either.

Hey Josh what did you think of IM3

Especially after watching a film like the Hobbit! :lol

I haven't seen it yet. Going tonight at 7:30 CST.

I'm hoping that Black does a good job of making sure Gandalf helps usher Tony on the proper journey. :lol

Sorry :lol

I just hope I don't leave the theater picturing in my head of Dutch yelling " Hawkins...Do It.. Do the Film right!!" for those who get my pun. :slap

Ok, back from 2nd viewing.

Wife hated it with a passion, said at least in IM2 Stark was still IM.

She hated that Stark controlled the suits, she prefers IM to be IM, the suits were lifeless and boring.

She didn't buy that the Stark from IM1/IM2/Avengers would not turn into a PTSD mess now, he's too much in control and cool to turn into that.

She hated the boring fire villains.

She thought the humor was just too much.

Yet the big suprise didn't bother her because she never heard of Madarin. :lol

Agreed with that bit

i bet thats how most of the population will react

The annoyance over the twist isn't just from comic book fans. I've never read a Mandarin comic i knew he was supposed to be a sorcerer and didn't care that he was a terrorist. My, and plenty of others, annoyance is the bait and switch, the build up of a cool looking villain that was thrown out the window

:exactly:

It's easier to pick on one ot two members for comments made by lots and lots of others

there's no way, anybody can seriously defend the whole Mandarin thing... NO WAY....

:exactly:

Studio loyalty at it's finest.

Even Harry Knowles came up with some convoluted theory that salvages Mandarin for future movies ::lol

You'll see.

I bet you love it. When I get the blu ray, I'm skipping right to that.

Your wife is a very smart woman.

but it is done in a lot of movies, how is it different for this one.

Extremis Killian is actually a better villain with the way the story is.

TDKR did this with Bane. the actual villain pulling the strings was Talia.
