It's nice to a see a movie that was so different from anything else that came out in the Marvel Universe. It wasn't better then The Avengers. But it was damn close.

I agree the twist was surprising, but other than that this movie was a complete let-down. I get that it wasn't "mainstream", cut and dry superhero villain type film, but that doesn't mean it was good. The Mandarin was a complete joke and I do understand people who don't read the comics will like it simply for the action and character development, but the whole anxiety attack stuff was ridiculous. If there's going to be an Iron Man movie about Tony Stark outside of the suit, go for something that the character is known for, like Demon In A Bottle.

Yes, the shield tattoo was briefly in the movie. And I was just telling my Wife tonight that although I loved the deception in the trailers, it's only a matter of time before some nitwit sues the movie companies for false advertising. :slap

No kidding. They really fooled us with the advertising. Its too bad the film didn't come out a month earlier. It would have gone down as the biggest April Fools joke of all time. :panic:

Speaking of dates, did anyone think it was really odd this was set during Christmas? Seemed totally random and really unrelated to the plot of the film :dunno

Demon In a Bottle storyline was done in Iron Man 2. Jon didn't want to push it anymore than that because he didn't want a really downer of a superhero film. They covered his partying/boozing fairly well between the first two films and how he's no longer like that. It wouldn't make sense to go back to that now.

He’s the globdamn BATMAN.

It made about $100 million for every minute Stark was actually in an Iron Man suit. :lol

:lol - Well, that's pretty much true. Watching it again tonight, I realized how little time he is actually spent armored up! I didn't even really notice the first time. I mean, yes, he was out of it for most of the movie. But even when the armor(s) was/were around he was barely fully armored for any time. Still dug it. But I do think this is a one-time trick. Definitely need more IM time in the future.

I loved those credits at the end how it showed all three together. That animation was very well done it seemed retro like something out of the 60s.

Yep - they were awesome, and a nice cap on the previous three films. Seemed a bit more 70s to me, but I know what you mean. :)

And at 3000 degrees how did his pants and belt not flame on?

I got the impression they were only that hot when they overloaded and exploded, not all the time. But I didn't think too much about it.

Love this. I wish it wasn't just a cast-only poster.

Shane Black trademark. He didn't want to do it, but his cowriter convinced him. Everyone should listen to the Empire podcast on this that had the interview with Black and his co-writer. Fascinating, good stuff.

The fact that it was Christmas played into the fact that Tony bought Pepper a Christmas bunny, and the fact that he was testing the Mk 42 armor while dancing to Christmas music. ;)

Less of a storyline, a tad more than a nod to a great piece of Iron Man history. I enjoy this film for what it is, but really, that isn't much. As for people saying this felt like film noir.... wow. That's all I have to say!

Just watched again for the second time with some friends who had not watched it yet and they loved it. I have yet to talk to anyone who has not liked it. The only complaints i have heard is on freaks but i understand we are a little harder to please :lol

The Mandarin caught me completely off guard, absolutely did not see it coming. i was a little disappointed at 1st but now i think it was brilliant and it makes me laugh. I cannot think of the last time i was that suprised in a movie and that is what i go to movies for. So well done Marvel :clap
I also think it is AMAZING that they could keep something like that secret for this long.

Marvel talked about doing the demon in a bottle but decided his drinking problems had been done enough.

I liked the anxiety attack angle. I work in a fire department and have seen guys have serious mental issues, nightmares, etc like he was having after a tough stressful call. Some bad enough that they had to quit the job. Thinking you know everything and then finding out you don't when aliens show up on your doorstep could be very stressful. I think it would have been a mistake for him to act like nothing had changed after new york.

This is of course IMO

I really liked the film might watch it for a 3rd time in the next couple weeks.

Just saw it and had some questions that I obviously missed...

Where did Killian get those helicopters to destroy Stark's house and where the hell did they go after doing it? Where's our military?

What happened to all the other people that were on Air Force One?

Tony spends the whole movie fawning over Pepper and she dies and he's like sad for 5 seconds?

What did Pepper actually do to kill Killian as he was completely indestructible and survived every other assault.

What did Tony do to "release" the extremis from Pepper's body?

How come Pepper didn't die in any of the scenes where her body was tossed like a rag doll?

What prompts Tony to remove the shrapnel from his heart at this stage? Why didn't he do it long ago? What was the point in keeping it there all this time? Wasn't it because removing the shrapnel was too risky? So why now?

Why is there too much silly humor in movies nowadays?

Why do all of these Marvel movies skip like 40 years of comic stories and cool characters and villains to give us Extremis, Iron Patriot, Venom, etc?

Adios!

He's rich, he can easily buy helicopters. Stark took out 2 of the 3, and the 3rd one was last seen flying away as Stark blasted out of the water.

What happened to all the other people that were on Air Force One?

AFO blew up in the sky, so although it looks like Tony saved the day, I'd have to assume that at least the Pilots all died?

Tony spends the whole movie fawning over Pepper and she dies and he's like sad for 5 seconds?

He did show remorse, but agreed, not enough. But really what was he supposed to do, Killian and all of his bad guys still needed to be dealt with.

What did Pepper actually do to kill Killian as he was completely indestructible and survived every other assault.

This was one of my biggest problems with the movie. Blowing him up while inside of the 42 armor would do more damage to him than her blasting a rocket in his face. I would have preferred it be the other way around.

What did Tony do to "release" the extremis from Pepper's body?

Jarvis told Tony that Pepper was clear of the building, and Tony used his arm gestures/commands to call for the armor.

How come Pepper didn't die in any of the scenes where her body was tossed like a rag doll?

Because it's a movie. See: Transformers. :lecture

What prompts Tony to remove the shrapnel from his heart at this stage? Why didn't he do it long ago? What was the point in keeping it there all this time? Wasn't it because removing the shrapnel was too risky? So why now?

It's speculated (but not shown in the movie) that he somehow uses some of the Extremis stuff on himself, making it more removable.

Why is there too much silly humor in movies nowadays?

Because people like to laugh.

Why do all of these Marvel movies skip like 40 years of comic stories and cool villains to give us Extremis, Iron Patriot, Venom, etc?

That's a question for Marvel. But I will say that they make movies to make money, not to make comic readers happy.

Clearly.

Just saw it and had some questions that I obviously missed...

Where did Killian get those helicopters to destroy Stark's house and where the hell did they go after doing it? Where's our military?

(This really matters to you? Uh. Well....he's rich. So. And where did they go? Why does that matter? Why do the helicopter pilots matter? They're bad guys. They're trying to kill the good guys. Jeez. And the military is probably doing something else, not really taking notice when a couple of helicopters fly toward one of the richest man in the world....)

What happened to all the other people that were on Air Force One?

(You saw what happened to everyone.)

Tony spends the whole movie fawning over Pepper and she dies and he's like sad for 5 seconds?

(Tony doesn't work like that. People deal with **** differently. He chose rage. Just like he did in The Avengers. That's his character. It's consistant.)

What did Pepper actually do to kill Killian as he was completely indestructible and survived every other assault.

(Blew him up. Got him hot. They're not immortal. Just highly invulnerable. Iron Man already killed two of them. So it wasn't a big shocker)

What did Tony do to "release" the extremis from Pepper's body?

(Something scientific)

How come Pepper didn't die in any of the scenes where her body was tossed like a rag doll?

(Because it's a movie.)

What prompts Tony to remove the shrapnel from his heart at this stage? Why didn't he do it long ago? What was the point in keeping it there all this time? Wasn't it because removing the shrapnel was too risky? So why now?

(Because he used the Extremis. He said that. He couldn't get it out, or else it would pierce his heart. So he used a virus that allowed him to actually survive such an operation.

Why is there too much silly humor in movies nowadays?

(Because we normal people don't take this stuff seriously, and just want to have a good time)

Why do all of these Marvel movies skip like 40 years of comic stories and cool characters and villains to give us Extremis, Iron Patriot, Venom, etc?

(Because we normal people don't care about any of that.)

Adios!
