That's nitpickers for you. They only look at the tiny details, and never the whole package.
They should have called this Tony Stark instead of Iron Man 3
Tony Stark IS Iron Man. A concept established just before the end credits of the first film.
Did you just " " your own post...within the same post?
It's easily the worst of the three movies.
A Cop can function as a cop without the uniform, Stark can't function as Iron Man without the suit. If he could he wouldn't keep putting on the suit. He keeps putting it on as without it he'll be killed.
Iron Man is what he can do and Stark is who he is.
Without the suit, Stane was able to incapacitate him, Whiplash would've sliced him in two, Loki or the Nuke would've killed him, when he stormed the Mandarin complex without the suit he was captured and only escaped because of the suit.
Same thing applies to Hal Jordan. You take away the ring and he can't be a Green Lantern. He can't physically do what a Green Lantern does
Iron Man is Tony Stark in an armoured suit.
Tony Stark is Tony Stark.
Tony can't fly, shoot repulsors or survive fights with any of the villians.
No suit = No Iron Man.
You're looking at the literal implications of the name and your dismissing what the name actually is. And you are missing the point of super heroes entirely.
They are defined by their persona, not their powers. The powers are the catalyst. The name: Iron Man, Spider-man, Superman, Batman etc. these are all people who started normal and went through a metamorphosis and emerged as something else. The names are a symbolic representation of that change.
When Tony says, "I am Iron Man", he is embracing the change that he has gone through.
And your point about not functioning....a cop without uniform, without gear, etc has less of an advantage then when he is with those things. He may not be seen as someone with authority, he is more likely to be shot and killed without his gun, Yet he can still function in his duty and as an officer of the law. In this same vein, that's what Stark does. He is at a disadvantage without his suit, but as you can clearly see in IM3, he is resourceful and uses his power to solve situations.
That's....not even what we're talking about...
My brother owns a husiness and wears a nice expensive suit because looking sharp gets him clients.
He can still go into his business on Sunday in jeans and a t-shirt and fire some fools.
But to get those clients (baddies), the suit is required.
He's still the boss regardless if in jeans or in expensive suit.
A cop is still a cop who took an oath to enforce the laws with or without his peestola.
