I don't know what's stranger casting: Liam Neeson as the Arab Ra's Al Ghul, or Ben Kingsley as Mr. Mandarin Oranges.

Because Ra's al Ghul isn't an Arab in the Nolan movies??? Perhaps Mandarin isn't Chinese in this movie? Is it wrong to white wash characters in Hollywood? Typically, I'd say yes. If a character is portrayed in the comics as a certain ethnicity, it should be reflected on screen. However, Liam Neeson's performance was perfect to me and I do like Ben Kingsley and expect to like him in this role. If that's his voice in the trailer, then perhaps not... It sounded like a mix between Agent Smith and Heath Joker. But I won't judge any performance based on one line of dialogue out of context from the film in a trailer.

I do understand them wanting to get away from racial stereotypes with this character and I think that's why they're casting someone that's not Chinese and adding all the other cultural influences in his design and ideologies. Couldn't say why they went Irishman (or even Japanese as the decoy) for Ra's al Ghul though....

Even though Liam's Ra's is most likely European, I always assumed he was a light-skinned, green-eyed Arab (like Ra's in the comics.) I just thought it was strange in BB when no reference was made to his Middle Eastern origin. On the other hand, I initially thought Watanabe as Ra's was even more bizarre.

But Neeson didn't carry an Irish accent in the films. He just had a pretty straight English accent. Who's to say he wasn't an Arab or Persian in the films? He could just have carried the accent through his education/upbringing.

TDKR hints at a Middle Eastern origin with Talia's origin story. Not so much his ethnicity being Middle Eastern but his acquired title of "Demon's Head" may have been picked up during his time spent there as a merc.

That's what I figured. Hell, Nolan's Bane was born and raised in a Middle Eastern prison and sounded like a dandy Englishman.

I wouldn't use the word "dandy" nor could I ever decide what his accent was supposed to be. I always got a German vibe from it. His attack may have something to do with his voice. Or his world travels where he learned to speak English? Do you think they spoke English in that pit? Who even speaks down there? Just the doctors to my knowledge. The flashbacks are silent and they do that chant in some other language.

You wanna put your mustard on Iron Man's weenie and stuff it between your buns? :dunno

I imagined Ken Watanabe in the role. But then again that would be a pretty expected move.

Ben Kingsley is a cool choice

You mean, pull a Rambo III? :lol

I can understand German, but it actually struck me as South African. I have to admit, the voice actually grew on me. It was quite distinct.

no, the new costume makes him look like a walking hot dog, that mustard yellow does not look good at all

First off, you clearly don't know what a hot dog looks like. Secondly, I think you need to learn the color palate better so you can understand the difference between champagne silver metallic and mustard yellow.

Why are people hating on the new suit? It looks great. :dunno

Were there this many complaints about the Mark...uhh..the silver and red one? Why does it have to be exactly the same every time?

I love his traditional design, but I hope that every once in a while we get something fresh like this.

Uh.. there's a big difference between "Asian" and "Indian" when it comes to ethnicity. Pacino and Deniro play Italians mostly because they ARE Italian. Ben Kingsley isn't Asian. He's Indian and White. With that said, I have no problem with him playing Asian guys. :lol

Indians are considered Asian. I think you mean Oriental. :monkey3

:1-1:

Well Indians and Pakistanis are technically 'Asians' but generally at least in the UK when someone says 'Asian' they are referring to Oriental people.

I wouldn't say that this new Iron Man 3 suit is as bad as the freaking silver "Freeze" suits from Batman and Robin. That's going a little too far.

While the design is sort of growing on me, I don't see how anyone could prefer it to the previous Mark suits from the first two films. I don't think it's "OH MAN, IT'S AWFUL" but it does seem like a step back.

It seems like a "desert" version that Hasbro would make or something.

I don't think anybody's said that they prefer it more, just that it's a refreshing design compared to the norm.
