Favreau's absence will be felt, especially if Marvel plugs in some cheap hack. RDJ is the face of the franchise but Favreau was the heart. He's a great old fashioned movie director who understands actors and character.
I say good for him though since IM2, though enjoyable, was obvious wheel-spinning due to Marvel's "grand scheme."

Someday you might have kids and you'll appreciate when a decent director works on a family film.

It's too bad Marvel screwed the pooch on this. They mismanaged Favreau and forced IM2 into production to meet a release date with a subpar script. You can bet RDJ will walk when his contract is up.

Iron Man has been the rediscovery of Downey, and he's now an A list actor again.

Favreau has talent and he's untethered from a drifting ship. Good for him.

I'm all for good directors doing family movies and if you pop into any of the disney threads you'll see I love Disney movies (moreso the animated ones than live action). I just think the idea of the theme park coming alive sounds lame as hell.

lol at folks not seeing the value favreau brought to the whole iron man franchise. frankly, we wouldn't even have downey playing stark if not for favreau fighting to cast him. it's just foolish to not give him the due credit for it.

from all accounts both official and unofficial, favreau was forced to concede to marvel's meddling in im2, resulting in a too-many-cooks syndrome. so i do not blame him for the messiness of the film. but i still do think he handled the so-called big climax rather poorly. it actually managed to be much more UNDERwhelming than part1's showdown with iron monger.

overall however, favreau's departure is by no means a good thing. the only silver lining is the solid groundwork he laid down with the first 2 films (downey, the "plausible" feel to the tech, the light tone). at least if the follow-up sequels keep that. it's not a total loss...

tylerdurden, a reasonable human being.

Now that both the director and Tony Stark himself admit to having reservations about Iron Man 2's quality, can everyone agree that it wasn't that good?

I thought it was good, but not near as good as the first.

What I didn't like about it was I paid and wanted to see a Iron Man movie. I didn't like all the Avenger stuff that was crammed into it. Save that for post credits fanboy teasers.

I am in the minority that liked it more then the first. I don't think its a better film, I just enjoyed the characters and everything. The only thing that killed the pacing for me was the drive to Pepper with Strawberries, and the whole discovering a new element thing.

And I liked the ending, I felt like the end battle encompassed the drones from the moment they took off, the BlackWidow/Hogan thing, and Whiplash's battle so for me it was more then enough. Whiplash was conrolling the drones so to me, they are an extention of him.

i liked the first film better, but I don't think the second movie was nearly the train wreck some people say. I'll give the second one a B where the first was an A+.

The second movie was derailed by a comedic villain (Sam Rockwell, who was misused here) and the desire to stuff an infomercial for the Avengers in the middle of an Iron Man film.

I also don't care for Pepper. More specifically Gwenith Paltrow bugs me. She wasn't quite as abrasive in the first film, but in this one she was unlikable.

IM2 worked for Marvel fanboys (of which I am one) but doesn't work for a wider audience. This is what nearly killed Star Trek. Making a movie for a niche market will eventually hurt the bottom line.

I dont particularly like the idea of Iron Man III being a continuation of anything other than Tony Starks world and cast of characters.

If its going to be a continuation of the Avengers, or Thor movie...will Gwenyth be involved?

Worst Case Scenario: Marvel continues to push for Iron Man 3 to be an unofficial Avengers 1.5 and the director that is hired meets RDJ's criteria and will do what the company asks. RDJ phones it in to just meet his contract and the film comes off worse that even Iron Man 2 in terms of being disjointed and erratic.

Best Case Scenario: Marvel finds someone who can breathe new life into this franchise and RDJ loves it so much he agrees to do another set of films.

We'll have to wait and see who gets picked before freaking out.

Iron Man 2 ____ing ruled. So no, I will never say that it sucks, even if everyone else does.

Yeah, I don't get the hate. Though, I'm not sure it's hate... I think the consensus is that it isn't as good as the first, not that it "sucks". :dunno

Whatev, I loved it. :rock
