Clearly not since Rocwell was originally up for the role of Stark and lost to RDJr.
I would agree, except that that: 1) that only demonstrates the interests of the persons doing the casting; and 2) I didn't say Rockwell would have been a better Iron Man. He's just a better actor in general.

They totally casted the right man as Stark and RDJ is a pretty damn good actor I think. I'd take him over Rockwell any day and twice on Sundays.

lol at folks not seeing the value favreau brought to the whole iron man franchise. frankly, we wouldn't even have downey playing stark if not for favreau fighting to cast him. it's just foolish to not give him the due credit for it.

from all accounts both official and unofficial, favreau was forced to concede to marvel's meddling in im2, resulting in a too-many-cooks syndrome. so i do not blame him for the messiness of the film. but i still do think he handled the so-called big climax rather poorly. it actually managed to be much more UNDERwhelming than part1's showdown with iron monger.

overall however, favreau's departure is by no means a good thing. the only silver lining is the solid groundwork he laid down with the first 2 films (downey, the "plausible" feel to the tech, the light tone). at least if the follow-up sequels keep that. it's not a total loss...

Favreau was geat and was did an awesome job with the franchise, it's upsetting that he's off IM3. Now the question is will Marvel cheap out and get a crappy director to fill the role. :horror

Yeah, I don't get the hate. Though, I'm not sure it's hate... I think the consensus is that it isn't as good as the first, not that it "sucks". :dunno

Whatev, I loved it. :rock

There will always be haters, but apart from the final fight sequence being a little short, I enjoyed it. I think Downey reprised his role well and Rourke did a kickass job as well as the rest of the supporting cast. Cheadle was pretty good but could have had more chemistry with RDJ. Aside from that, IM2 was entertaining and had more action sequences than the original which I liked. I'm one of the few that enjoyed the 2nd more than the first too I guess.

:rock :rock :rotfl:thud: Now I'm going to have a Shawn of the Dead/ Hot Fuzz marathon.

Sam Rockwell is a fantastic actor and one of the best things about iron man 2. he was just the right amounts of weaselly, pathetic and smarmy. he was the anti-stark.

Shane Black's Iron Man 3?
Marvel may enlist the writer of Lethal Weapon for the gig.

Oh it's good to be a geek: Shane Black is in the running to write and direct Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter has the story, which reports that the writer of Lethal Weapon has met with Marvel execs to discuss his take on the third movie in Tony Stark's franchise.

The Reporter notes that "Black's involvement is far from a sure thing," and that other filmmakers are under consideration. The director of the previous two movies, Jon Favreau, left the franchise in 2010.

If Black has any "inside track" with the property, it's that he has worked with the film's star, Robert Downey, Jr. before, on Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, which Black also wrote and directed. (Downey's contract gives him approval on who can direct the film.)

Shane Black's Iron Man 3? We're so there... if it happens.
Black, who made his career writing big-payday action movies like 1987's Lethal Weapon and 1996's The Long Kiss Goodnight (which starred Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson!), is having a career resurgence of late. He was recently tapped to adapt the manga Death Note for Warner Bros., and work on Sony's Doc Savage movie.

Little is known about Iron Man 3, other than it stars Downey Jr. and will be released May 3, 2013.
