I have to disagree, before TDK, Spider-Man 2 was considered the best superhero movie.
Not universally. In fact there were many claims by fans and media the IM1 was the best superhero movie ever. But even that left the door open for a definitive entry because as much as people loved IM1 he was still a B-grade hero. TDK gave us A+ hero vs. A+ villain in what most consider an A+ movie. Forget about anything topping it in the public consciousness.

Hardly anyone outside of comic geeks knew who Doc Ock was prior to Spidey 2. Hell most people still probably don't know who he is. But every generation knows the Joker. He's the Darth Vader of comics and probably always will be.
Any homerun movie that features him will top every other cbm, always. Back me up here DiFabio.
That mansion scene is soooooo lame.
By your logic, Batman 89 would have been considered the best superhero movie up until TDK came out.
I'm not even joking
I think people are desperate to get TDK out of that top spot, and before BvS came out people were already calling Affleck the best Batman. The Nolan films have a ton of haters, and they're just itching to find a better a movie, but until we get an Oscar worthy superhero film, nothing will touch TDK.
If The Batman is at least 70% on rotten tomatoes, I'm sure a ton of the Batman nerds will be saying TDK has been topped
IM1 probably was, until two months later when TDK hit.
TKD blew IM out of the water.
No, it isn't.
The MCU in its 14-film-run still hasn't been able to top Wolverine killing 11 soldiers inside a school.
No, because B89 was a critical mixed bag. STM was "the best" until Spidey 2, IM1, and then of course TDK.
And it made Robert Downey jr upset
I remember him criticizing the film because it was "so high brow" and the film made no sense
Wolverine killing 11 soldiers inside a school.
Sounds brutal and amazing when you type it out unfortunately it was anything but on film.

The MCU is notorious for "zero wound penetration" and off-screen deaths.
See, I still refuse to believe you've seen X2 in recent years. The way Jackman dispatches the soldiers is pretty damn heavy for today's PG-13 standards.
