Doom's a scientific and magical genius, but, while he's a master planner, like the rest of the preppers, that just means they're good at building weapons, suits and the like. Sure, there are the ocassional stories where they stretch their strategy muscles like, say, Doomwar, but the end result is always iffy at best (see Dark Reign). But HYDRA-Cap is hitting all the right notes. Just a few examples:

>HYDRA-Cap fakes the brainwashed Selvig's death and leaves Jack Flagg in a coma.

>HYDRA-Cap breaks into the Red Ghost's lab, kills his apes, brutally beats Ivan (cuts off his arm and everything) and steals his lab. He then puts Selvig there.

>HYDRA-Cap then has Selvig send some Gamma-Related notes to the now cured Banner.

>Banner reads them, starts doing mad scientist stuff, and then BAM! he's dead.

>HYDRA-Cap tries to murder Ulysses, but he finds the Inhumans and Tony there. He hides, goes to the secret meeting and starts pushing them into a war.

>HYDRA-Cap calls a secret meeting of the more Conservative Senators and convinces U.S. Agent to publicly hunt down Falcon-Cap.

>Then, HYDRA-Cap creates a Flag-Smasher LMD, plays ULTIMATUM, has them attack a gala, straps the senators with explosives (ULTIMATUM's work), and in the ensuing battle, where Sam is present, he knocks off his aim so that Sam misses Flag-Smasher and the Senator dies. Sam is then left broken and with the world looking at him as a failure.

>Afterwards, HYDRA-Cap mentions that he wants to break Sam emotionally, spiritually, get his shield back and divide the country. Oh, and murder Red Skull.

And that's the very brief version. I'm telling you, HYDRA-Cap is a cold-blooded killer, but he's so.damn.entertaining. He's a straight up beast. He's becoming one of my favourite versions/characters.

PS: Man, was that story bad. No nuance, no respect, just a cash-grab.

So is Hydra Cap really the earth 616 Steve Rogers or some evil clone? I mean, where or how does it end?

He's still 616 Cap, but Red Skull used the cube to alter his memories. In a way, he went back and altered the "past", and now Steve has a different upbringing. It's slowly being revealed, but so far we know:

-HYDRA killed his dad and mum.

-Then they took him to a HYDRA Orphanage.

-The headers/leaders at the time were Dr. Faustus and Kraken/Whitehall.

If you get past the whole "Nazi" thing, it's a really good book. one of the few good Marvel ones. Truth be told, all their villain books are ace. It's their hero books that suffer a whole lot.

Close, he's 192 in 2024 since he was born in 1832. My issue is that at the end of The Wolverine in 2015 he's 183, so he's only 8 years older in DOFP and an extra year in Logan, which makes him only 9 years older than he was in The Wolverine. Seems like he suddenly got old because they felt like making him older and broken to tell this "final" story. Again, if it was 2120, ok...but then they can't have Xavier in the film.

I see what you mean.

Mangold mentioned that what happened to him in The Wolverine (2013) affected his healing factor. It basically never went back to normal hence the streaks of white hair you see in DOFP.

This is eight years later so clearly his healing factor is on its last legs and he's finally aging.

I really do think that based on the trailer LOGAN could be a genuinely good or even great film. I'm just shocked that they thought that that awkward flying leap would wow anyone. It's not hard to sell even a regular guy as being a bad ass and can be done in seconds. Jack Reacher punching a guy through a car window for instance. But for some reason Singerverse combat seems perpetually stuck in the early 90's. And I don't mean James Cameron early 90's but rather Hook, **** Tracy, Ninja Turtles, etc.

The Star Spangled Man sequence was very clever because they found a real world reason for him to wear the classic comic costume and become the CA symbol for that generation of people. It also felt like something that could've happened in real life as part of the war propaganda. For me the film goes to hell after Cap recues Bucky and he returns to the base. That's when the montages start and those weird shots of Red Skull angry that he's losing the war against Cap.
