I wonder if Best Buy or anyone will have any free goodies with it. I'm gonna hold off and see. I'm a freebie ho. :D

Hmm not sure what I am gonna do, I can't wait 2 or 3 years for the Extended Editions to show up on BD but I'm a bit iffy on going back to the Special Editions of these movies, that seems like downgrading to me no matter that it's in Full HD...

Man extended editions are soooooooo lonnnnnnnnng

I'm with you, Sam. It does seem like downgrading and I'm happy to wait. I will watch my DVDs of the EEs.

I've only ever seen the TE's once, when first released in the cinema. So while it maybe cool to seeing some nice HD stills or even clips of great scenes in full, amazing 1080p, I won't be buying this first Blu-ray release, since I'd never watch anything in full now that isn't the EE versions.

On a plus side, it lets me wait even longer to get any Blu-ray playback hardware, making everything cheaper.

Well I am ticked off... I am not ordering the theatrical version. If I have to wait I will wait but you see all they care about is ripping us off and making more money. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

You do realise that it is Peter Jackson holding back the EE's? You cannot blame the studio for wanting to release these movies.

Yeah a lame move by Peter Jackson! I don't care about sneak previews of the filming of "The Hobbit" on the Extendeed Editions! I never watch those things anyway since they spoil the move for me and I only watch the trailer of a movie I like about two times before I watch it in the theater!

Lame, lame, lame! :banghead

I hope he wil be adding some cut scenes to the Extended Editions in that case and not only some "The Hobbit" sneaks!

Will be waiting for the extended editions like so many others. Not paying for the films four times, just three times!

:D

The one thing that could turn me around, is if they include a nice collectible with it.
They will probably include one with the EE though, most llikely made by Weta

I bought my Denon receiver with the Realta chip specifically to get the best picture quality possible from my extensive DVD collection. It does a phenominal job of upconverting to 1080P. It's so good that I'll only be replacing my absolute favorite DVD's for Blu Ray. I'll definitely be waiting for the extended versions.

Yeah, upcoversion of the EE verisons will do just fine for now.
Though for the record, regular dvds only upconvert to "near HD" (720p, 1080i), not full 1080p.

Hey, by the time I can afford a giant HDTV and a Blu-Ray player, the EEs will be here!

Upconversion just doesn't cut it for me. A frame with 350,000 pixels of image detail doesn't hold a candle to over 2,000,000 no matter what my player does with them.

I for one just can't watch ROTK without Christopher Lee in it.
When Jackson left him out of that Movie, it was insulting to the great man and travesty to us fans

That was definitely an oversight IMO to leave out the main "human" villain from the first two films on the cutting room floor. But I'm also annoyed that the EE spoils the "surprise" of having the Army of the Dead coming through the boat when Aragorn arrives at Minas Tirith. I'd like to see a "Perfect Edition" of ROTK that includes Saruman but not some of the other additions. It'll never happen of course but I can dream. :)
