Watched all of FOTR. The part when Gandalf and Frodo and Sam leave the shire with the ring, there is a scene where they're walking on a path, and it's daybreak. This is visually one of my favorite scenes. They are a silhouette, against the sunrise in it. In the DVD version, that sunrise is bright pinks and purples and blues. Very colorful. In this version, it's more realistically plain, blues and such without all the bright colors. And, in some ways that's how I feel about a few scenes color choices. More realistic, but more plain.

I can see why the color changes were made, but something about them make it less magical and more real if you understand what I'm getting at. With the exception of the above mentioned scene, I understand and can appreciate the few times I noticed the changes. It's not at all like they detract from the movie, simply alter the mood just a touch. That said, we're talking like 3 scenes in the whole movie that stood out to me. As for the other scenes, especially the beginning of the movie in the green and lush Shire, I think the colors were perfect and brilliant. If they made changes to the other 97% of the movies colors, they were either not noticeable or just excellent decisions.

Frankly, I'm really happy with this set. The color issue is way overblown. The only letdown for me was that one scene at daybreak. I loved the original versions vivid colors in that one. So, that's what...5 seconds out of 3+ hours of movie? The rest is absolutely stunning in Bluray, and more than makes up for that one change. There's hundreds of more visually vivid scenes to make up for it.

I don't think you can go wrong buying this set. It's basically everything we've hoped it would be.

Blu-ray discs hold more data. But 1080p video takes up a ton of space. The size of the files means that the total amount of high quality 1080p video that fits on a Blu-ray disc is roughly equivalent to the amount of standard def video that fits on a DVD. I would not want to see the extended editions compressed as much as it would take to cram them each on one disc, along with lossless audio. The picture quality would definitely have to be sacrificed and the bitrate would be down in the toilet.

I'm about ninety minutes into Fellowship, and I think it looks great. All the complaints about color timing had me worried, but I think it looks fantastic so far. When the title came up white, I smiled and stopped worrying about color timing and just started enjoying the movie. The audio is incredible, as well. Love the sound when Sauron's helmet hits the ground in the prologue. Make sure your subwoofer is on!

Oh man that makes me so freaking excited to get to watch my copy! Picked it up early Tues morning, but havent gotten to watch it yet! Will soon though!! Very excited!!:clap:clap:clap

Just watched part one...is it me or did Boromir get stiffed by the elves when everyone got a gift?

They knew he was going to die because Galadriel saw it in her mirror. So, why waste perfectly good stuff on him? And, he wanted to steal the ring, which made him a ____.

____ can't wait for my set to arrive. just got back from target and saw a set on the shelf selling for $99 :lol. It looked great though and I wish I had mine already.

What's the black cases all about?

Hi Allen :wave, I understand the US Blu-Rays are in black cases :clap while the International ones are in blue cases :(...I would be much happier with the black, but as I am in Ireland I guess the blue will just have to do :(.

I like having all my Blu's in the same uniform case. But, for this I guess since it's a box set (along with some others I have) it doesn't matter too much.

I haven't picked this set up yet, due to the tweaking of FOTR. But, I have been following the thread about the set here and Blu-ray.com closely and it seems more people are happy with the set, than not. I probably wouldn't even noticed unless I read about it. Sometimes, the internet is not always a good thing. :slap

I'll probably ask my wife to get it for me for my birthday next week. :)

Just picked up the set at Best Buy for $65.00 plus 400 bonus reward points. My cases are black so it must be a North America thing.

In the books, Boromir gets a golden belt. it's kind of a slap in the face to him.

I always disliked that, and was kinda mad they left it out of the movie, yet happy at the same time.

Havn't popped in my fellowship blu yet, but from everyone else i'm hearing the same thing, that the colors are not really an issue at all, and that it looks beautiful!

They gave bonus points at Best Buy? I wonder if I'll get them since I ordered it online!

I would've given him something special since he was going to die and all. :D

Well Aragorn doesn't get anything in the film either. The dagger from Celebron doesn't really count.

Boromir gets the whole bit with Galadriel talking in his head so that's exclusive to Frodo and Boromir in a way.

I don't know, I think they could have given him the golden belt and come up with some nice little dialogue like they gave everyone else. Something about honor or sacrifice that relates to what happens with Boromir in the end. I think the reason they didn't though is because the whole gift giving scene sets up the next two films (the elven rope, the daggers among the bodies and the light), Boromir's belt really wouldn't be apart of that.

Then again, if they can give Legolas and Gimli pointless gifts (pointless as far as plot goes) then why not Boromir? Boromir is arguably more important than Legolas, Gimli, Arwen, and most of the other characters in the Extended version of the Fellowship of the Ring. Almost the whole third and final act is about Boromir and the breaking of the Fellowship.

What ever they gave him would have been nothing compared to what he desired. :ring

Empire Magazine has a couple of screen shots of the Hobbit. It looks clear to me that Jackson wanted to give the Fellowship the same type of visual look, that's why the colour was changed

oh wow i didnt see that new screenshot, looks great! defiently has that Fellowship look to it.

so i bought the BD EE's the first day and have been watching fellowship. i didnt really notice any huge color changes, but the film looks HOLYCRAP AMAZING. i was astounded while watching it, how good it looks. the best ive ever seen it. glad i waited for the EE's!

Now to buy this pack or wait for individual releases as i dont really need the extras, like most i already own the beautifully packaged DVD's.

The black covers look pretty  so wouldn't mind if we also get them down here, probably not though i'm guessing.

Hope everyone enjoys and doesn't let the apparent controversy take away any of the enjoyment of the greatest trilogy put to film.:clap

My wife bought me the set for my birthday, sh'es funny. She won't let me open till then either (Monday).

:panic:

Bought the set today. Nice to see they didn't put each whole movie on one disc instead of still making you change discs half way through.
