Got mine today. Looking forward to watching them. Might even try to cram in watching FOTR EE and TTT EE before seeing ROTK EE in the theaters tomorrow.

Why are there 2 discs for each movie? They didn't seriously split the movies up over 2 Blu-rays did they?

Not sure why. My guess is to keep the HD quality the best they can. Since these movies are all exceptionally long as is.

I would highly suggest getting them.

I figured that maybe they broke the movies up because they are so damn loooooooooong and it provides an excellent opportunity for bathroom breaks and/or food runs.

Blu-ray discs hold more data. But 1080p video takes up a ton of space. The size of the files means that the total amount of high quality 1080p video that fits on a Blu-ray disc is roughly equivalent to the amount of standard def video that fits on a DVD. I would not want to see the extended editions compressed as much as it would take to cram them each on one disc, along with lossless audio. The picture quality would definitely have to be sacrificed and the bitrate would be down in the toilet.

I'm about ninety minutes into Fellowship, and I think it looks great. All the complaints about color timing had me worried, but I think it looks fantastic so far. When the title came up white, I smiled and stopped worrying about color timing and just started enjoying the movie. The audio is incredible, as well. Love the sound when Sauron's helmet hits the ground in the prologue. Make sure your subwoofer is on!
