Yeah I don't think I ever looked forward to media as much as I did for MGS4. The hype levels were insane and it was a great time to be a fan. I think the hype has a lot to do with the negativity about it too. There was just no way it could live up to expectations.

MGS V was all hype, and all of the nonsense with Kojima reaching its peak. It never lived up but I can get the MGS 4 hype.

I've seen some franchises reach similar levels, I just never experienced it myself cause I was too young at the time :lol

Well, there's a difference between Internet hype with MGS V on YouTube, and the actual, tangible hype for MGS 4. 2008 was so different without social media (you needed a college email to create a Facebook account), and everything just felt a lot more personal back then. I still went into stores to buy my games, and to pick up promo material. I was also a subscriber to Official Playstation Magazine :lol

But, Dylan's right, MGS 4 just didn't live up to its expectations with the fanbase. But, whereas MGS 4 was a good game with a lackluster story, MGS V was a mediocre open-world title with practically no story to speak of.

Oh yeah I get what you mean. I mostly do online shopping because I'm lazy and assuming I get free shipping, there isn't a point unless I want to find stuff in store...it's still strange how 'in store pickup' can't be fixed with shipping.

I heard mixed things with the fanbase and MGS4. To some it did, to some it didn't. I feel it zig-zagged with how people felt in light of MGS V, as pre-MGS V the game got worse to people. MGS 4, regardless, is ok though but MGS V is nothing more than a mess of a game and representation of everything wrong with gaming today. :lol

It's pretty telling that MGS4 looks WAY better than MGSV :lol

Even though the areas were a tad short in duration, the maps in MGS4 had many little things in them that made them interesting. The middle east with the AI battles, the guinea pigs of South America lulz and the on going PMC battles, eastern Europe with all the PMCs patrolling. And of course Shadow Moses, which was done extremely well. I just wish it had live soldiers there.

I wish the middle east section lasted longer. It introduced so many ideas that I don't think ever got fully explored and then moved on. Sneaking during an on going firefight is one of the coolest things in the series. I just wish it happened more.

I think MGS4 would have benefited from having a MGSV style of mission selects. That way you could revisit the areas using the Nomad. Would have made it feel more like a Quick Reaction Force style of wet work than bringing 12 million assault rifles and basically walking to the next load scree.

Yeah I think that could work Dylan, I'd be interested.

Shadow Moses was really cool, but I also wish it had live soldiers. But the AIs taking over did show how much had changed though...

I think you could cut out the Eastern Europe section and just make the other sections longer. It's pretty much a stalking mission with a car chase. The End. I also think that Drebin's store breaks the game. The ammo and weapons is too easy to just buy.

I would have loved if MGS4 had MGSVs gameplay. Best of both worlds

Without 3 minute chopper intros, sure. But, MGS4's gameplay was fine the way it was. Survival viewer should of been in every game after MGS3 though.

I felt the gameplay system was under developed and broken. Not in the control but the design. That dreben store alone was bad enough, let alone the god-powered tranquilliser. It was only fun to me when you forced yourself not to use those two aspects
MGSVs bullet drop solved that issue.

MGSV lived up to the promise Kojima made for MGS4 gameplay-wise IMO

Did he promise two boring sandboxes? He firmly accomplished that one. And enemy AIs that were a bar better than MGS1 :lol

MGV would have at the very least been WAY better if you were able to play ANY mission on ANY of the "preset/challenge settings".

I had the most fun when I had to play a mission starting with nothing.

I think a good way to fix Drebin's store is to limit how many weapons you can bring on a mission and add a weapon degradation system to it. Like using the M4 in urban environments and using the AK 47in south Africa to prevent them from having miss fires. But the SCAR and XM8 would work all around.

Yeah, limited weapon load outs and starting with full ammo... and having to pick up in the field would of been fine... just like the newer Big Boss games. Although, you still can get supply drops.

They really went all out with the weapon realism too. Some of the best weapon handling MOCAP ever recorded and some of the best in game designs too.

Touche lolol But melding MGSV and 4 would be epic.

The attension to detail is what makes MGS amazing to me, i felt it was a little list in MGS4 since resources needed to go to the open world

And the lack of attention to detail in MGS V is what killed it to me

also no melding MGS V to anything, get that out of here!

Anyone here play the online mode for this game? After I finished the single player I deleted it from my hard drive and haven't touched it since, so I'm not sure what the online aspect is lIke or if it'still worth playing.

Only played the FOB invasions. It's fun, but the upkeep isn't worth it. I heard the PvP was really buggy in the beginning but I'm unaware of it now.
