Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

If you guys have the "Metal Gear Solid 4 Database" on the PS3, definitely check out the section with Big Boss. Even though it's five years old, it still has a lot of relevant info. Apparently, Big Boss is able to return to the U.S. Military in 1990 as the Commander of Foxhound. Perhaps this happened as a result of winning a big victory against "Cypher", and being able to clear his name - since he was being hunted down as a fugitive in Ground Zeroes.

I'm both excited for this game, and appalled by it. Big Boss doesn't ever seem to become evil from what I read in the database. He's just a tragic, misunderstood hero - who got trolled by one of his clones. In addition to being a messianic type of figure for disenfranchised soldiers around the world. I'm willing to bet that he was close to destroying The Patriots for good, until Solid Snake showed up and foiled his plans :slap :lol.

I do have the database, will check that out later.

Anyway, I always felt that BB can't help himself- he just need to fight and be apart of war. Snake on the other hand, had always wanted out. He never wanted to be a soldier, he just wants to live a life as normal as he could. If anything, it was BB that messed him up.

Well, that's what I think anyway. Doesn't mean it's true.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

It's been ruined fora while :dunno

I think it's been a lot of Konami to do with that. A MGS TV series? I get flashbacks to those ****ty Mortal Kombat webisodes. It seems ever since MGS4 Koji doesn't have final say on the games since his ideas on MGS4 were vetoed.

In all honesty, I don't think he was ever that close. I think Cipher allowing him to reenter the US might be a plan neutralizing Big Boss as a threat, not killing him but keeping him on a leash. But that obviously doesn't work since he threatens the world with TX-55. The whole way Big Boss's psyche has been handled has been so bumbling and not in line with anything were familiar with from the Snake era games. Maybe this is a turn to the continuity were familiar with, but from the MGS4 ending it pretty much threw a wrench in the engine on what we thought of him.

When he returned to the US, doesn't it say he came back to command Fox-Hound?

Well Snake wanted out after MG2 when he retired, but after MGS1 he wanted to stick around to better the world by eradicating Metal Gear. But when MGS4 comes around he had this whole give up and die attitude until he was given the assassination mission on Liquid.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

But why phantom pain though? Is the one eyed snake going to get something chopped off?

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

He loses his left arm at some point, he gets a robo-arm to replace it. Also, Kaz (Master Miller) loses an arm and a leg as well.

Snake gets his hand amputated, and Miller loses an arm and a leg from torture. Just read the quote in my signature :lol. "The Phantom Pain" is a term to be taken both literally and metaphorically.

Wow. I dislike these amputation story arcs. Cringed when THeon and Jamie from GOT had their respective amputations.

But I guess in the MGS universe with all that nano tech and organic machine tech, limb replacement is no biggie.

Well, it just seems weird, that if Cipher had Big Boss then suddenly decided out of the blue - "hey, let's just have him return to the U.S". Big Boss and Zero had long since crossed the point of no return - especially considering Les Enfants Terribles and all of the tragedies that befell him and his comrades.

But, whatever scenario plays out in the actual storyline, I just hope that it makes sense :lol.

I am all for replacement limbs, but in the 1970's and 80's? The tech is such a plot hole compared to the future games.

I get what you mean man. It's going to be a weird journey leading up to the 90's of the MGS universe.

The tech became too advanced with Peace Walker, and it looks like TPP is following suit. I wonder how Big Boss is able to move his robotic fingers.....

I've been thinking the same thing. Originally, I think there wasn't viable prosthetic limbs until MGS4 which is why Ocelot chose Liquid's arm. But then again, that could of been due to his admiration for Big Boss and wants to be part "Snake" in a sense. Originally Ocelot was going to have a robotic limb.

Don't forget, there is holograms in MGS5 >_>

Holograms?! I need to rewatch that trailer :monkey1

I really want to see how Kojima explains away the advanced tech this time around. I mean, the synthetic limbs in MGS 4 did make sense, since it was a future setting, and Dr. Madnar was constantly developing and innovating cyborg technology. But, that **** isn't supposed to happen in the 80s :slap

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

After the Walkman and singing A.Is, we're still trying to justify MGS tech? :lol

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

In the original Ground Zeroes trailer Big Boss pops up a hologram off his wrist, pretty sure. Why a fumble of the ball to do that.

Good point :lol

Were in retardville in terms of continuity.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Just finished playing MGS, 2, 3, PW (in that order). And I'm trying to forget everything from the PW story like I never got the chance to play it :slap

Somethings I would like to point out
- Hal Emerich is born in 1980 .... So what is Huey doing in the middle of nowhere when his son is 4 years old.
- Prosthetic arms, legs and hands were invented before 1974 as Zadornov was rocking it when he met BB. So.... yeah, totally believable.
- Singing AI ?.... Is it in PW ? I have no idea what you are talking about :rotfl

You're preaching to the converted on you're hate for PW :lol

I think you misinterpreted the article dude.

There's not going to be an MGS TV show, just the cutscenes will be arranged "like a TV series", I'm assuming the reason were the complains about MGS4 cutscenes.

If it bothers you too much, think about it as comic book-esque instead of TV series.

Although I hope this doesn't mean episodic DLC like the walking dead, that would suck.

You don't like MK legacy? It was great for a web series, great production values, interesting reimagining of the MK verse, fun to watch, and it opened the door for a new MK movie. :clap

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

MK Legacy was quite good once it got going. Once it got to out realm characters and not the human ones
