Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Loved the Last of Us, never finished the first Assassin's Creed because it was too damn repetitive. Then I hear AC3 sucked and that kind of put the franchise back further in my overdue queue.

Same. 2 started out great but it got extremely boring very quickly. Didn't even bother with the others.

In terms of storyline, AC 3 was the weakest entry in the entire series. Connor was just a dull character, and I found it difficult to even like that game.

Oh let's not start that again, I love Hayter's voice as much as the next guy but he's not MGS, he's only a part of it, I don't mind Sutherland cause so far he seems to be doing a good job as Snake and he's voice is refreshing for the character, I've invested as much time as you guys playing the games, definitely not a noob.

David Hayter was a huge part of MGS. Not only did he provide the voice for Snake, but he also funded Twin Snakes out of his own pocket to pay for the original voice actors to rejoin the cast. He also petitioned Konami to write the script for the MGS movie, before they rejected his idea. He's probably a bigger MGS nut than anyone here.

The main problem with Sutherland is that he can only do his own voice. I've seen all of the episodes of 24, and it'll be extremely awkward hearing Jack Bauer's voice come out of Big Boss. Don't even get me started on when Bauer starts screaming all high-pitched when he's interrogating people :slap. He just wasn't a good choice for MGS, in my opinion.

Not to get argumentative, but if I remember correctly, didn't you mention a few months ago that you weren't really a fan of this series? :lol. I mean, no offense but, it is humorous to see people automatically calling themselves fans of something when it starts becoming popular again. I've seen way too much of that on YouTube and Facebook, lately.

You simply can't make a blanket statement like that. I am very passionate about the Metal Gear Solid lore, and even do marathon runs of the games (1-4 mainly) just to become immersed in the world again.

It's fine if you like Sutherland (I'm also a huge 24 fan), but David Hayter was an integral part of Metal Gear Solid. It's a damn shame that they snubbed him and I feel like the series will not be the same without him.

I understand where your coming from its like people who say oh you can't recast ironman ,the character is bigger then the actor it will go on and on .

I think it differs for voice actors - especially when they're willing and able. It's the same principle for Kevin Conroy as Batman. People aren't looking at Arkham: Origins the same way because Conroy is so ubiquitous with Batman and the influence he has had on the universe.

That's the exact reason I'm passing on it.

I have a feeling that Kojima wants to redo the entire series from scratch with another voice actor. It does suck.

I get that too but that's not the only reason people are complaining about that game.

We went from a B level actor turned pretty well received screenwriter/voice actor to a washed up once A lister alcoholic.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Solidus :lol I have NEVER said I wasn't "really a fan", I've stated multiple times that MGS is my most favoritest game franchise ever, in fact my collectible holy grail is the 3A REX, in fact, IDK if you remember but when I first joined to this place I started a big discussion in the MGS collectibles thread with several of you about my own views of the franchise and I think I earned a few "ignores" :lol, plus I've been an active contributor to this thread since I joined in.

Mrmadhouse, I'm not a fan of 24, wasn't all that familiar with Sutherland until I heard he was going to portray Snake, I was iffy and kind of heartbroken at first until I heard what a good job he was doing in the trailers, also, let's not start on a "I'm a biggest fan than you" contest, that's just stupid, I CAN make such a statement because it is my favorite franchise and I have spent entire weekends playing the games in a row just like you.

Krec9, I agree with you, except maybe Hayter is just as big as Snake, but that doesn't mean he can't be recasted, especially after what IMO have been his weakest performances in both MGS4 and PW.

Still the way he was let go was awful I also agree with that.

My only gripe is to reduce anyone who isn't on the Hayter bandwagon, to a "noob" status or anyone who doesn't hate where MGS is going to a "CODdudebro" status, it seems like a way to self comfort and give the impression that someone's opinion has somehow a higher validity than the one of someone who disagrees with said initial opinion.

The lack of Paul Dini as well (for me, anyway). The Arkham games were practically set in the Animated universe because of Conroy's and Dini's involvement. But, with Origins, who knows... it'll probably become its own canon of some sort.

I get that too but that's not the only reason people are complaining about that game.

That's true :lol. There's just so much to complain about, if you take the time to analyze things. But, I think Hayter being fired, is probably the most glaring issue for most people.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

You don't give us BTAS-verse in game form and then flush it and expect everyone to be happy about it. I already had an emotional attachment to the Conroy/Hamill Batman & Joker and I don't feel like starting over in Origins.

Oh... well, I probably got you confused with someone else then :lol. There's just way too many discussions to keep track of in this place.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Regarding BAO, I think the Arkham franchise feels more like Comic-book-verse made game, it's too dark to feel like TAS, in that spirit in think BAO isn't that off in terms of tone.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The Animated Series was pretty dark, too. But, they had to tone it down for Fox Kids :lol. Those restrictions didn't really apply for the Arkham games.
