Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

OK I won't use that word for MGS4... how about lazy? Everything that couldn't be explained logically was NANOMACHINES

I don't see how "lazy" fits as an adjective either, sure they use that word a lot but it's justified.

I don't want to sound annoying but give an example of something not logically explainable?

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

What's not to like? The characters are great, the plot is very engaging, the drawings by Ashley Wood are beautiful.

His artistic vision went out the window years ago which is why every game following MGS2 has been a watered down story to cater to the fans.

I'd also say that being "artistic", means remaining true to the series that you're responsible for creating. In other words, not retconing the storylines in ridiculous ways, in order to make room for more games for the sake of profiting from an already popular series (aka. milking the franchise). The fact of the matter is, that Kojima is solely in on it for the cash, just like Konami.

I don't think that he even likes MGS anymore - at least, that's the vibe that I get from his interviews.

I get that too, the passion is gone. He was a god at creating good dialogue and engaging emotional scenes. MGS1 was a masterpiece since every character was given a very heavy back story and all of Foxhound's deaths were very emotional and tragic.

At this point, he's trying to shove the cash cow Big Boss down our throats in as many different time periods as he can.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Do people generally believe the same can be said for MGS3? I quite enjoyed that one.

MGS 3 was okay. I really thought that it was a spin-off of the main series when I first played it in 2004. I didn't expect for Kojima to keep creating Big Boss games for so long.

I don't think you can say that about any of the MGS games, MGS4 was criticized by having an "overly complex" plot.

So I definitely wouldn't say the stories are watered down.

Well to clear that up, I love MGS3 a great deal. But the complexity of the stories after MGS2 was a big drop off. MGS2 went over a lot of people's heads so to compensate they had to make a more grounded story.

MGS4 I think was the weakest entry of the main series thus far. I think the conclusion to the story shouldn't have been done so quickly given that were stuck with nothing but prequels that screw up the continuity of the future games.

"Overly complex?"

There was a monkey drinking soda man...

The dialogue at the end of Big Boss explaining what the Patriots were with norms and all that other garbage was just camouflage for a bad story. MGS4 is not complex, probably less complex than MGS3.

Completely agree with that. I felt MGS4 was extremely convoluted and was certainly my least favorite of the series. Keep in mind I have yet to begin playing PW.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Lol I'm not saying I found it complex myself, I think it was just right.

But the general opinion about MGS4 story by people that are not fans per say, is that is "overly complex"

OK I will give you that. If you're not familar with MGS at all you're going to be completely in the dark on WTF is even going on.

I just think Kojima blew his wad way too early putting a period to the series when the franchise wasn't going to just stop with MGS4.

Now with all these prequel sequels, it's just things that were made for the purpose of making money and essentially can be ignored since they have no baring on the future games since the future games weren't made with these prequels in mind.

My head hurts...

That's the word, I agree it was unnecessarily convoluted, and it's also my least favorite story of the franchises (nothing beats MGS1 in my book).

But it's by no means bad, it's just the least good.

PW is a blast to play especially online. But the story to me anyway was laughably bad. I'm not a fan of Ashley Wood's "art" at all but at least in PW he emulated Shinkawa's style of drawing.

It's worthy of being a main entry, I just feel like the story was all over the place and doesn't do a good job at story telling.

The whole war economy plot was ridiculous. And bringing Big Boss back at the final moment was the biggest blunder in the entire series.

Mine did too. I'm just trying my best to ignore the "seriousness" (or lack thereof) from the Big Boss games. For me, the series ended with MGS 4. Everything that follows after (even Peace Walker) is just unneeded drivel. Ironically though, I'm looking forward to Ground Zeroes, in hopes that its storyline will have bearing on the hopefully inevitable remakes of MG 1 and 2.

I look at all these Big Boss games like a ****ty dinner I don't want to eat but I will eat it just to get to the dessert :peace

Well said. You and me both, man :lol. I just hope that there is dessert, because this meal has been tough to swallow so far.

I liked the war economy part, and I think Big Boss at the end was pretty much necessary for Snake's final closure (not that I cared for it), still, but like I said, it's my least favorite.

I do resent the quotation marks around Ashley Wood's "art", If you don't like it you don't like it, but he makes great paintings and drawings, Anyway that was off topic.
