No, they aren’t only with the “hardcore fans”. But those games are critically acclaimed, and have great user review scores on pretty much every gaming site.

It's not about consoles, it's the fact aside from one game Big Boss has got a total of 5 games thus far and Snake has only has 2.

Solidus was only cool because of the suit, he might of been just average without it. I didn't like Dead Cell. MGS2's only great thing was the badassness of Snake. Big Boss would evaporate in his presence.

He's not cool. He hasn't finished Revengeance on puny Normal difficulty while here I am tearing my hair out on Revengeance mode.

I don't think anyone here hates Big Boss. It's just that he has been overused in so many games, effectively replacing Snake as the main character of this series. And like I mentioned before, Kojima has practically turned him into a character clone of Snake. It bad enough, that most people can't even tell the difference between Big Boss and Snake...
