Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'm still pissed over Konami letting go of David Hayter like that. He's been such an integral part of the series - in both his voicework and helping to provide input on the scripts for the games. You'd think that Kojima would at least have the courtesy to let him know ahead of time, instead of finding it out like that through a company rep. That's very disrespectful.

Kojima doesn't even respect the series anymore, why care about the biggest cornerstone asset to the series?

I'm just happy you can write off all these pointless prequels and just play MG1-2 MGS1-4.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Either way, I don't Rike it.

I'm kind of leaning toward it being legit since it wasn't dropped on us just today. Hayter might of waited until the next Monday morning for the official announcement.

April Fool's day jokes are so hack.

I also thought Kojima would be respectful and let David know in advance, knowing how polite the Japanese are.. Then again, Kojima isn't your typical Japanese.

He just seems like a elitist douche anymore. He doesn't convey the passion he had in the mid 90's.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, I don't think that Hayter would pull an April Fool's joke like that on his fans. It just seems out of character. Plus, like Plissken said, the news has been floating around for over a week.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

its bait so itd be more believable today. he wanted to build us up to hear an uproar. im goin with that and riding on it. it just seems like it. i could be totally wrong.

Kojima probably hates us for keeping him on the MGS series for so many years :lol. The sales of the games are just too phenomenal, that Konami doesn't allow him to work on other projects besides MGS.

I wouldn't doubt he resents it's success. He used to be all about exploring different projects but that is long since gone. I remember him saying a few years ago that he's always going to be stuck with MGS.

It's been almost 10 years since ZOE2, it's been nothing but MGS in between.

ZOE desperately needs some attention. Also, remember the nightmare sequence in MGS 3 that was supposed to be the demo for one of Kojima's projects? Yeah, I wonder what happened to that game... :lol

Pure conjecture on my part, but I'm sure that somewhere along the way, Kojima was forced to turn Project Ogre into MGS 5.

METAL GEAR V

David Hayter

So,

Here’s a recap of events:

I have been up in Toronto, for the past eight months, directing my first film, (WOLVES -- 2013, TF1/COPPERHEART). On the December break, I came home to Los Angeles for the holidays. I heard then, that recording sessions for MG:V were being put together.

But I didn’t hear anything about whether I’d be needed or not.

So, I got in touch with someone involved in the production. We got together for lunch, and he told me that they "wouldn’t be needing me" on this game. No reason, or explanation was given beyond that.

And that was it.

I drove home through Laurel Canyon, bummed, and thinking about Snake.

To be clear, I love being a part of the world of Metal Gear. I admire its technological innovations, the gameplay, the political message of it all. But primarily, I love the fans of these games. Two grown men burst into tears upon meeting me at the Vancouver Fan Expo last year.

Now that... Is a rare and excellent role. You know you’re making an impact.

And I love doing it.

In 1998, I tried to do come up with a voice which epitomized the kind of worn, put-upon, genetically-engineered clone-soldier that I saw Snake to be. Over time, as the games became more stunning and visually sophisticated, I tried to transition that initial voice into the increasingly real environments in which Snake found himself. My level of success is up to you, but any perceived deficiencies were not for lack of hard work. I have dedicated a huge amount of time and effort into creating a compelling character, capable of expressing the myriad emotional, physical and psychological hurdles that Snake has to face.

Anyway, now it’s been fifteen years, nine games, and an enormous blast to undertake.

If it were my choice, I would do this role forever. To hear anyone else’s voice coming from Snake’s battered throat, makes me a little ill, to be honest.

But the truth is -- it’s not my choice. Any and all casting decisions are the sole purview of Hideo Kojima, and Konami itself. And that’s fair.

And I’ll get by. I am not lacking for employment on any level.

But I didn’t want anybody to think that I was intentionally abandoning them.

And know that I will miss this job, and this character, very much.

My best wishes to you all,

David Hayter

Sad to hear he will be missed.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

But there is no Solid Snake in this one right? Hayter is Solid Snake..

This is what popped into my head at first. In MGS4, Big Boss was voiced by a different actor as well (if I remember correctly), although I know that was likely just to avoid confusion when they shared the screen, but still it's a fact that Big Boss was voiced by someone other than Hayter already.

But if it's true, I'm still very sad about Hayter leaving. Wasn't his voice supposed to be in Metal Gear Rising also, as a voice inside a sword? I don't remember if they confirmed the actor for that, but it'd be weird for it to be a voice no one would recognize. If so, that makes it more confusing why he would be given that job while almost simultaneously being let go from MGSV.

The weirdest thing was him making Peace Walker, a sequel no one asked for, for a console not many people own. at least in the west.

He said out right that MGS4 was his last, and it did make sense at the time as it was to be his swan song. (i know he says he's quitting after every instalment)

In any case he again said this is his last MGS *eye roll*
while i want him to make new games i dont want him to ditch the franchise either, hopefully FoxEngine can allow that. Also being able to focus more on gameplay is a huge plus
