Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

There's lots that can be whined about in MGS4 and its ending, but turning Snake into an old man, is not on of those things. It is a great idea. To show the old, gruff, disgruntled war hero, who finds himself totally isolated and outclassed in a digital world in which there is no more place for "old war dogs". Plus just becouse he was older, doesn't mean he was any less of a badass, more in fact, as You have said. There was always some of the "aging badass" about Snake, and they just went with this theme in MGS 4.

Also it took a lot of ***** and boldness from Kojima, to go completely against the current trend of video games protagonists (all male, all white, mid 20- mid -30 crackers with perfectly chiseld faces). Honestly I haven't really encountered this kind of dissapointment with Old Snake, anywhere except for this particular forum thread.

I cannot for the life of me uderstand what is "disrespectfull" about showing him as an older man (rotfl. talk about overreaction and character worship). It's not like Kojima showed us a version of Snake that has to wear a diper, and suffers from memory problems.

The only thing to dread about Old Snake is that mustache...

Kojima has pretty much disrespected Solid Snake after his short reintroduction MGS 1. He was cast aside as a minor role in MGS 2 in favor of Raiden as the main character, and in MGS 4 he was reduced to dying a old man.

Solid Snake was a great character (in terms of popular appeal), but he could have been much greater if Kojima wasn't always in such a hurry to get rid of him.

And by the way, the conversations in this forum are nothing new. These issues have been discussed and debated ad nauseam in the PSU forum, Gamefaqs, and lots of other places :dunno.

It wasnt that he was an older man. Its that we went from cool middle aged Snake to knocking on deaths door snake with no inbetween. We still had plenty of none " argh my back " years left of Snake to play as. Even if we get to play something in between the events of 2 and 4 it wont have nearly asmuch impact because we already know the future.

There is a glimmer of hope in MG Rising for Snake given how its years after mgs4 and he is still around. The way 4 ended it was very bleak indeed. So maybe if hes been pumped with Nanomachines or some other aid there might be a chance for one last tail. Though i doubt we will get it because of the whole tone of mgs4.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I know, despite being a "villain" you can be so empathetic with him, not to mention he's badass as *****!

Edit: funny, I got (b)alls censored but not badass, lol.

As strange as it may sound, Solidus is actually my favorite character in MGS (hence, the reason why I chose to use him as my forum name :lol). There are so many layers to both Solidus and Liquid. It would be nice to see them again in another MGS installment.

He should be quite able to stick his head on a fake body :dunno

I know, we got to see so little about solidus, I know it's not the place to discuss this but, did you get the play arts Solidus figure? I think it's an amazing figure, 2 p90 and 2 katanas, looks bad azz-

I still find it crazy Snake beat four tough cyborgs in MGS4 and he did it basically on his own with no enhancements.

Yes, I did! I really believe that he's the best Play Arts figure released so far. But, my mind may change when I receive PAK Raiden in-hand. Play Arts has really been upping the ante on the quality of their releases.

Yeah he had the solid eye and he also had nano machine weapon unlock technology but that's about it oh yeah also the Octocamo suit too.

Sent from the Shell by codec.

With the B&B's i can kind of buy it given they were women who had went a bit mental and were given the suits. So i think snake had their number with sheer experience. He made a chump of Vamp though.

Yeah he outwitted everyone, technology doesn't mean **** in MGS compared to experience. CQC'ing Vamp seems like a miracle.

Yeah, but it certainly wasn't easy, I mean, those exo suits were tough as nails, but their twisted minds were the liability that bent them over, no pun intended, maybe a little, remember the photoshoot? lol, good times.

Yup, I think the same, It's actually one of my holy grials, I might get it once my wallet recovers from all the 3A purchases (Yes, I like 3A, please don't flame me people lol).

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'm not going to criticize Old Snake too much. Mei Ling was very much into his new look, and I'm pretty sure that he tapped that *** before becoming Dead Snake.
:eek :eek I have no words right now. :rotfl

Well, Snake did mention, "this get-up doubles as a muscle suit", in reference to his Octocamo. He seemed much stronger than he did in MGS 1.

Disrespected? Seriously?

When it comes to MGS2, there are many who think that becouse of sidelining him, Snake actually appeared more badass in that game, then in any of his other outings. Snake appeared always as a bit of a lost child in MGS games, couse everyone was always manipulating him, and there was always a multilayerd intrigue going on above his head, of which he was always ignorant (at least in the beginning). Most of the stuff Hayter says in MGS1 consists of dialogue lines like:
"Huh?", "What the hell?", "What do You mean?", "That's Impossible", "What the hell is going on?", "Who are You?", "How is this possible?".

This "lost child aspect" clashes a bit with his supposed gritty tough guy persona. In MGS 2 the role of the "ignorant, constantly aghast chess piece" was related to Raiden, which left Snake "free to being badass again" as my sister once put. Solid Snake was at his most awesomest in MGS2, especially as Plissken. He was always in control, he always knew what to do, and appeared when he was needed. He didn't say much but always knew what to say, and had that constant aura of mistique and gritty, gruff, Clint Eastwood-like badassery. This was Kojima intent after all. Lots of articles have allready been written on this.

As for MGS4, I allready wrote in my previous post why I don't believe Old Snake to be worst than "normal" Snake. And even if someone personally prefered the younger version, then still, calling Old Snake "a disrespect to the character" is frankly silly.

It wasnt that he was an older man. Its that we went from cool middle aged Snake to knocking on deaths door snake with no inbetween. That's not what I am arguing with. I agree that there were still some potential stories with Younger Snake. But since Kojima though he was making an end to SS saga, taking the "war veteran" approach was the obvious one. I also would like to see another game with a Young Snake in action, but from the perspective of a game designer, this would simply be repetition. Especially since Big Boss and Snake are so similar, and we allready had Big Boss in MGS3. Dying Snake was a way to make things original, interesting and still badass.

Still compared to all the **** the B&B had in their suits, that suit pretty much only gave him the strength he had as young.

Like what you want man well respect you for it.

I'm assuming that was for me bud? Lol it was a just a joke, still, thanks.

Has it been confirmed that Doyle will be the voice for snake?
