Man, all these fluff sounds very concerning. I hope it doesn't kill the pacing too much. What I hated about PW is that while it was super fun to grind your way to all the goodies, once you're done with those you won't wanna touch the game again. I fear this doesn't bode well for sheer replayability.

They pegged the game months ago, PW 2.0. Which is a damn shame, I really wanted this to be a great Metal Gear experience, but now just comes across as a 3rd party title military simulator.

Focusing on gameplay over narrative is the worst thing you could do to the series. I really hope we get a new director that brings the series back to it's roots.

8/10 from pturtle is pretty telling, considering he's the biggest cheerleader for the game. Don't take that as a slam, it's not meant that way.

I finished Ground Zero yesterday, all missions. While the Gameplay is the best in the series, it doesnt feel like an MGS game. And my god, Sutherlands voice is horrendous for Big Boss. Keep expecting 'previously on 24...'.

Quite disappointed really, going by what people have said about TPP I think ill pass and just reminisce through MGS 1/twin snakes/2-4. Maybe get it for £20-£30 after christmas. Especially with Mad Max coming out. That looks immense.

Certainly appears so... is this going to be a "Beautiful Mind" twist?
Maybe ever since he got that horn rammed into his head, it's all been an illusion... which would firmly kill any replayability... just like with Liquid Ocelot.

I've suspected that as well...

With Skull Face. He seems to appear and disappear in one of the trailers, and Big Boss is the only one who notices him. I think it'd be hilarious if Rocksteady beat Kojima to the punch, and Big Boss' split personality tries to take over his mind, like what happened to Batman in AK :lol.

I didn't like how RS did that, but I came to like it... I probably won't care either way with V if that's the case.

I don't even need to play this to know this is wrong. Good game? Probably, but the title of best is already taken.

Well, I haven't played it yet, so I don't know! The reason I love MGS3's gameplay the best is because of the ability for different play-styles and the cqc combat. I'm a melee guy, so that's why I preferred boss battles like the Boss, the Fury, Volgin (round 1), Gray Fox, and Liquid, even though the End is probably the best designed in the series. If I ever get a choice between guns and fists and grappling, it's always fists and grappling!

I'm kind of worried that this is more of a Ubi-soft MGS game.

Thanks pturtle! Phew...I'm glad Big Boss is included on that list! :lol

Theres been a few twists, plot of the game and of the franchise brought up so far in my game. Nothing id say is ********, its all good enough. Only complaint is that 7 out of 10 missions feel filler to make use of the map. Simple stuff like theres certain helicopter drop zones, but they can be a vast distance apart so you are forced to run from 1 to another. Rather than just placing a dot on the map for the helicopter to go to. With no good reason!

Speaking of which, those games get a lot of "9/10"'s from critics, and I'd say the gameplay in those is around a "4/10." The only parts I enjoy are the tombs because they took some brain power like Prince of Persia.

Thanks pturtle! Phew...I'm glad Big Boss is included on that list! :lol

I think you pegged it.

I'm about 14 hours in. The gamplay is really exceptional, but I'm not feeling much with the story and BB speaking so little doesn't really show any importance of changing the VA/actor (might have to go more into the game though).

I've read alot of spoilers including the data-mined dialogue at the end ... still not really sure how I feel about it. Again, have to play it till the end.

hot damn that looks gorgeous :drool

I'm not picking up the game for some time, I've been picking up a lot of other games I missed out, both old and recent. I wonder if this game is like the reverse of MGS4, lot of gameplay, little cutscenes. I mean yeah, I said that was 4's biggest detriment, but I didn't mean 'focus hugely on gameplay over cutscenes!' to this extent, just that it hindered 4.

I'll decide for myself when as time goes on I guess.

At least MGS4 had a heavy narrative... even though it sucked for the most part. I can't wait to fully break the game down over the next week and see where it truly stands. After today, I'm off until Tuesday... so I got a full week to complete it before going back to work.

How are you gonna go about it? Soem side missions here and there, or full 100%?

And yeah, the fact that MGS4's narrative was less than stellar was my issue. MGS 1, 2 and 3 had great narratives with maybe a few stumbles at best. 4's had so much wrong...

Oh man. THAT MISSION. Perfect setting, i played the infiltration game near flawless. I hate utilising all the tools at my disposal, i am very stubborn and like to play basic as possible. But i used something as a distraction. It all came together perfectly. On top of that... giant story dump as a reward. It gets some things perfect. But at other times it drags on. If the game had of been jam packed with missions like the one i just did, perfect. But im like 34 hours in now. A fraction of the story!

I'll probably hammer out all side missions until I can do no more until a story related mission is done. I'll probably do a lot of sightseeing, and just seeing how things work.
