Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don't remember is they mention the unmanned capabilities in the MG games, but I do know that REX had unmanned capabilities.

I respect that you don't like them though.

Since when was REX capable of being unmanned? Not counting PW, they didn't start integrating AI into Metal Gears until the mass produced RAY unit.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Okay :duff

I really don't mind the AI thingy prior to the 80's, it's sci-fi after all.

Well Kojima, at least until a few years ago didn't really do over the top things like he did with PW. So you can't really just write it off as being silly fiction. He kept it coherent with modern day tech, but throwing primitive stealth camouflage in MGS3 and MGSPW? :pfft:

Well those stealth camos are like a trademark "extra" for all MGS games, I don't even take them seriously on MGS3, PO and PW, plus they take all the fun away.

I seem to have read that somewhere, let me check.

EDIT: I stand corrected, I was wrong this whole time, it has no unmanned capabilities that was just the RAY, I thought it had an unmanned prototype, but nope.

I get that stealth camo has become a mainstay of the series, but I think in that era it should of stayed a new game+ extra.

I think REX would of been unmanned at some point, but when the blueprints were leaked that threw it out the window.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Wow Sutherland voicing Snake? This quite amusing and entertaining... Cant wait to see more development.

I thought MGS3's was? PO and PW couldn't do that because they're "never ending," right? Even post-story, you can still do missions, side missions, etc.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Still waiting for a gameplay trailer, I'm getting kind of tired of Konami's whole idea to fire Hayter and put emphasis on the new voice actor in an effort to build hype. For me, the gameplay situations made me relate to Solid and BB more than any of the cutscenes ever did, which was obviously intentional. That's why it's a game. If the gameplay sucked, I don't see how I would be a fan of the series, the interactivity of MGS is what made it special, and it's something a movie could never capture.

Reading some of these posts and on IGN, you'd think people loved the series more for the cutscenes and voice actors, yet when MGS4 came out, they whined endlessly about how there are too many cutscenes, it's more movie than game, blah blah blah. It's pretty hilarious. Sure, some of the opinions are genuine, but I don't agree that Hayter > good gameplay, I can't even comprehend that statement. I wonder if it's just an emotional reaction or if they truly believe that.

As for me, I'd still love the series if the dialogue was told through text only like Zelda. Heck, I still think of Snake talking in Japanese half the time, since my first few years of exposure to MGS was through the Japanese versions, so I guess that'll be used as evidence to invalidate my opinion or classify me as an "untrue" fan, even though I knew and liked Hayter before most people knew his name, and even spent years impersonating his Snake voice. :lol

I love David Hayter's trolling Kojima and Sutherland, by referring to the game as "New Coke". :lol

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don't see any appeal in casting Sutherland, there is no plus at all. If it isn't broken don't fix it.

Axe MGS5 and go back to ZOE3.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

How on earth has MGS been catering to "COD dudebros"?
It hasn't been, not even slightly. MGS is the exact opposite of a game that caters to people who play nothing but online FPS games. They don't care about story, convoluted or not, they don't care about stealth, exploring all the hidden details in the environments, or pretty much anything that defines MGS gameplay. They even find the shooting elements extremely boring, from what I've read. I enjoyed CoD for a while as well, but to say it's catering to those die-hard fans is ridiculous, IMO. Although it's clear too many people think adding more action and taking away atmosphere is the way to go, but I don't see MGSV doing that. We'll see, I guess.

It sure as hell isn't catering to the fanbase that built this empire. I'd like to know who the hell they are aiming at for a market.

:lecture Axe MGS completely and move onto something new. It's not even MGS anymore.

I'd very much want the series to just die.

I agree too many games are going the CoD route, but I don't agree MGS has done this and is alienating all the original fans (which I'm one of), but obviously you are proof it's alienating many of them. I always expected the story to turn into a mess starting from MGS2, which had several things I didn't initially agree with, like not letting me play as Snake (though I ended up liking Raiden a lot).

I thought the unique gameplay was the real appeal of MGS, along with a cool playable character, where we become Snake or BB in all those crazy situations, and we more or less define who they are through our gameplay (otherwise the return to Shadow Moses would've been meaningless to the player). It's not like any of this makes Snake less cool, so I guess it's all down to people not liking BB. I suppose I'm in the minority on this board. :lol

Not arguing, I realize it's just a difference of opinion, I am just supporting those I agree with. :)

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I have issues with MGS2, but I feel it gave a goal to the present day series, to end the Patriots. We finally got a mainstay villain of the series. From MG1 MG2 and MGS1 they were all given more or less different villains aside from Big Boss.

I hated playing as Raiden, but I understood what Kojima was trying to do to break the 4th wall. But, this was the beginning of the end of killing of Snake.

Your right why I hate the game so much even after all those years I still dislike it.
I settled down for the past few hours to let the news stink in to me Mgs I know and loved is dead, it's gone this new vision Kojima has envisioned IMO is not for the hardcore fans.which reason why Kiefer has taken over its bull**** either way.

I can't argue with that, or your points that the story has turned unappealing, obviously any story will appeal to some and not others. But your point about breaking the 4th wall is key to me.

I'm having trouble explaining it, but I feel the reason some are so upset at not playing as Snake, was because we became Snake starting from MGS1, as cliched as that sounds. I think of Psycho Mantis reading our memory cards and that kind of thing. Everyone already knows this, but my point is that for some fans, breaking the 4th wall has had the opposite effect, where I'm not so bothered now by who I'm playing as.

Like since BB looks a lot like Solid, and is actually "related" to Solid, I feel like I'm still playing the same character somewhat (I know that sounds stupid), since I'm still choosing his actions, and all those 4th wall moments reinforced that for me. Even how the NPCs react to how much violence you used in-game made me feel it's more about me than the character I'm playing. So I guess Raiden prepared me for all this.

Still, your opinion is just as valid, and you've invested just as much as anyone into this series. I'm not being hostile to you or anyone, I actually enjoy reading the debates here, I was just reacting to some stuff I've been reading which seemed overly emotional to me, mostly on other sites. :)

Man I sound like a moron in all that text I just wrote. :lol

It's been dead the last few years yet the body continues to still breathe :(

You're not a moron at all, this has been a hot bed for heated debates.

MGS2 was a radical departure from MGS1, but I appreciate it for the set up with the Patriots and introduction to Solidus and giving Snake a new face to the series.

But in the same turn I hate how Kojima wanted a drastic change up of the main protagonist. I still find MGS2 hard to stomach since you're stuck as Raiden.

I hate to bold just one part of your post, but thanks, sometimes it's good to hear someone say that. :wink1: :wave And yeah, I kept wishing that tanker was a little bigger so I could stretch out Snake's part. :lol
