And what gives Kojima the right to artificially pad the length of the game? I was really TRYING to give this game the benefit of the doubt, but the only thing that got me smiling was when Snake bumped into some empty canisters and fuel tanks, the guards were in the middle of a conversation and they all went checking me out. Classic Metal Gear done right. :clap

I'm playing TLOU tomorrow to wash the bad taste off my mouth. I apologize in advance for the rant, and if you're dead set on getting the game, don't let my (or anyone else's) opinions deter you. Go for it and have fun people!

I was agreeing with you on that. It feels like they tried to make it “trial and error” to lengthen the gameplay, so that players can look at the ending’s runtime and say, “hey Konami wasn’t lying when they said it was 2 hours”.

In the end, I am still playing it, and enjoying it quite a bit. Once you learn the controls and the map, Camp Omega starts to feel like Big Boss’ playground. The gameplay compliments Big Boss’ reputation of being the greatest soldier alive. If your good enough, Big Boss can do things that were only available in cutscenes in the past games.

A few reviewers even said it was clear this wasn't from the get go a standalone release, like they thought this up after deep into production.

Yeah, I actually like Ground Zeroes (I do have my problems with it however) and it's obviously part of something bigger and is visibly made as a Prologue chapter of a big game.

It feels like this was just Mission 0 of TPP :lecture

The thing that bothers me most is Kaz telling me the controls every single time I play through it :slap

S Ranked 2 or 3 of the side ops and S Ranked the main mission today. 9hrs in, no deaths.

I dunno why but im surprised you hated it soo much Ryan. Also its for different reasons that what i was expecting, like difficulty. Did you like Tomb Raider? Out of any other game it reminded me the most of that.

The classic elements i miss the most is things like the codec. Kaz talking over the gameplay really bothers me. In MGS4 it wasn't intrusive in any way. CQC isnt as fun to me here. I always loved beating up guys in MGS but its harder to do now, i always end up throwing them instead.

Also there is definitely story here Ryan, while only a taste, did you not appreciate how much better this is edited as compared to say MGS4?

It's the quintessential feature from every game, even in a demo it should of been there. If for some reason it's not in the main game, it's not MGS.

Okay I literally gobbled up 2 slices of pizza and I'm having my 3rd cigarette since I've beaten the game. Here's my brief thoughs on the robbery, I mean game before I write a proper review tomorrow:

There's almost literally no story and it doesn't shed any light on anything whatsoever. I kept preparing myself for that "big twist" and it was the worst let down since my blind date in college.

The tone is dark and sombre, but handled with little finesse. A dark tone should alleviate your story, give it more context beyond what you are showing, not be the the focus of it! :slap

The gameplay, while sublime- doesn't remotely feel like Metal Gear. Enemies are super smart, but you still feel like a rat in a maze with hungry cats waiting to pounce on you. A lot of times I was spotted and even with the slo-mo, rarely could I land headshots. It's a methodical stealth experience that lacks the tension and most importantly PRECISION of games such as say, The Last of Us or the Arkham games. It feels like a chore more than an experience.

The sound mixing and quality are HORRIBLE. I was expecting to be at least as good as MGS4 but it's nowhere near a PS2 game even. I don't know if it's because mine is the digital version but it's really that bad. Helicopters barely register on the rear speakers, everything lacks directionality and there is little soundstage to speak of.

The graphics are great, even on PS3, but it's way too blurry and most of the time it's hard to get grasp on your surroundings due to the murkiness of the visuals.

Miller kept giving me useless info, especially the part when I was finding Paz. He kept saying "You must find her" "Find Paz". I KNOW THAT ALREADY YOU SENILE A-HOLE.

All in all, till I write a proper written review for you guys, just know this- If you actually paid for this, the jokes on you sucker. Good day to you all!

Wow, thanks for the preview of your review, Ryan :panic:.

It's posts like this that make me feel more reassured about holding off my purchase. I decided to completely (and utterly) spoil myself last night, and aside from the issues with gameplay (which I have yet to experience by myself), I just think there's an utter lack of content and substance to the story and even to Snake/Big Boss, himself - which is a far cry from previous games in the series. However, the cinematics were beautifully rendered and I loved the rain and fire effects.

It's the quintessential feature from every game, even in a demo it should of been there. If for some reason it's not in the main game, it's not MGS.

I couldn't believe that Kojima even wanted to strip away the "exclamation" marks for alert statues. It's good that there are some people at KojiPro with their heads on their shoulders to convince him otherwise on some things.

In addition, the lack of "knocking" and even cardboard boxes and rations just seem so surreal. Is this even Metal Gear Solid anymore?

Just unlocked/finished the DejaVu mision. I loved it, what an amazing piece of fan service! with great little surprises in there too. Its only ruined by Keifer dubbing Snakes lines and Robin Atkin (Kaz) doing everyone elses. I admit he did a decent Liquid impression though
as well as Darpa Cheif lols
. He also delivered some Snake lines, so that gives me hope in a weird way.

Anyone know if the unlock-able skins are usable in the main missions, or just DejaVu??

I really hope we get that Xbox Raiden mission at some point. Or at lest a similar one in Phantom Pain

It was ironic hearing Kaz impersonate Liquid when in MGS1 Liquid was impersonating Kaz :lol

The Classic Snake and Gray Fox skins are usable only in Deja Vu, plus they change Omega into Shadow Moses-esque style as well.
