Um, what? I never used the word "stealing" in any of my posts. I've said bootlegging a licensed product is illegal, because, well it IS.

I used "blurring" in the context of my own experience because I simply don't know what the law says. Is "image stealing" illegal? Is it even a real thing? If you're telling me it is, I'll take your word for it! I will edit my post to say "stealing" instead of "blurring" if it will make you happy. :) Like I said I'm willing to take responsibility for my actions, I won't deny it or try to pretend it's OK simply because I'm not the only one doing it.

I love your work Andy. I think you're one of the most gifted sculptors I've seen, but when you jump in on a thread like this about recasting you are going to open yourself up to scrutiny. Your tone here got me firing back. I think you're a good guy and will leave it at that.

It's called a "Character/Actor Likeness". and yes I believe it's a real/licensed product.

If you use it to "sell/promote" a product, then yes, you are stealing.

I used "blurring" in the context of my own experience because I literally don't know what the law says. Is "image stealing" illegal? Is it even a real term? If you're telling me it is, I'll take your word for it! This is where it becomes a grey area... most commissions are not done to sell or promote something to make money, and the cost involved is only to cover expenses.

When you cast 30 or 50 or 200 though.....

Yes, that is why it is grey... where do we draw the line? If no profit is ever made, is 200 or 2000 ok? Is it only ok for 20 or 30? Is it never ok? Some very hard questions that can only be answered if you take a black or white approach with no give on either side.

I think we are all fine with these issues when they are convenient for us. The problem starts when you become judgemental over someone elses convenience. On this issue I say live and let live. Make your own choice but don't cast stones if you aren't 100% removed from possible scrutiny.

...and don't tell the whole world when you buy a recast. :D

Regardless, I'm evidently quite the hypocrite and have no business calling the kettle black anyway... I've said enough and will be on my way, and I apologize for turning this thread in such a negative direction. Besides, I should bow out before anyone scrutinizes too hard and finds out that I've got a dozen naked 16-year old Mexican illegal immigrants scratching VIN numbers off stolen Hondas in my garage. :monkey3
