To those that want to weather the pack no need to because it already is! The headsculpt actually isn't as bad as i thought it would be (still not good though) and the body shape seems ok too. I now agree with what the people were saying earlier about it fitting into the whole cartoony feel of the ghostbusters. I got a set of elbow pads and tt type body for this guy added to a headsculpt change. I reckon it should be awesome when fully modded.

Does anyone else think Mattel dropped the ball on these figures? I mean, don't get me wrong... I'm happy the license has been acquired and we're getting official figs, but as a rabid GB fan, I feel pretty let down by the overall quality and detail.

Below are pics of the figure I made a while ago for comparison. I wish Hot Toys had made these suckers. Oh well...

Hey awesome job on that figure.

I dunno im pretty happy with most of the figure bar the headsculpt. I mean in fairness what do you expect for 60 bucks. If hot toys did it sure everything would be better but then you'd be paying the price of 3 of these figures for one hot toys figure. Even ht headsculpts can be iffy sometimes albeit very rarely. This is mattels first venture into the 1/6th scale market and we can't just have one company dominating the market. Personally i think it would be bad for business. Monopolies always are.

I guess the one thing that dissapointed me most about the figures in the 12 inch line is that originally i saw upscaled versions of the 6 inch figures and they looked so cool at comic con new york. Ray looked awesome. Then they obviously decided the cost of producing these would be too great so went for the version we have now. I really wish they had used the upscaled 6 inch versions.

Having said all that I think if you change the headsculpt, the body and the elbow pads you got a pretty decent representation of ray right there. I reckon i can mod this guy and come up with a good representation of ray for less then the cost of a ht figure would have been if they acquired the gb license.

It's really tough to compare a production line figure with the care and attention that a single customizer will put in to a figure.

That said, I think Mattel did an outstanding job on the pack and trap for the most part when compared. Those items could have come out looking more toy-like as with the goggles and web belt.

But again, as a place to start for customizing, there's plenty here that will work great to get you started. How much more money and effort anyone wants to put in is up to them.

I wouldn't say that they "dropped the ball," because I think they did pretty much what was expected for the most part. The one exception is the proton pack, which actually defied my expectation (based on what I've seen--the one I ordered a week ago is still 5 days or so away  --thanks, slow-ass UPS!).

Those elbow pads are just ridiculous, though.

Ray definitely looks like to different figures were mashed together: one great one with the pack and gear and another version with the elbow pads, sculpt, web belt, etc. It's odd that there's such a discrepancy between various items on the same figure. Never seen it before quite like this.

I agree.

I can't wait to start seeing what people do with this figure as a base. I think some of the reluctant buyers out there might just change their tune when they see what you can get out of this with minimal effort and expense.

Those were just the industry standard 2-ups of the 6" figure, they were never going to be sold as the 12" versions. And they revealed the prototype of the 1/6 Ray at the same time.

Yeah but i wish they had. They looked the business.

To anyone that has one of these figures in hand already, I was wondering... does the gun tip slide out or is it perm in the "retracted" position?

The 12" figure's wand does have a movable tip. It's a cool little detail they caught and included in there.
