I'm anti-customizing (I've seen a couple people here who share my same purist attitude toward collecting) so I'm not gonna get into all this stuff about replacing parts but I'm convinced that Mattel is going to do the 4 main characters in the 12" scale and leave it at that and I've noticed that there are current collectibles on the market that are more or less compatible with the 12" Mattel figures. As always: sorry for the crappy cellphone pics:

They're the Diamond Select banks. They also have a standard "nice" Stay-Puft bank (which I also have) and there are obvious scale issues but they work more-or-less. Stay-Puft is NEVER going to be in-scale with ANYTHING. Even if they did like a mega-scaled 3' figure like those Batman and Superman movie figs they made (and those WERE Mattel now that I think about it) and you used the Minimates the scale would still be off, plus the bizarre comparable scale should go down pretty easily for anyone who grew up on the Kenner figures. As for Slimer: even though he's on the opposite end of the spectrum (a bit big) the nature of the character makes the size issue a bit of a non-issue. Also, even though the Slimer bank is clearly styled after the first film you could even make the case that it's in-line with his size in the sequel.

In any case, I'm not holding my breath for the non-Ghostbusters characters to be done in this scale by Mattel. DST is also doing a logo bank which would also look pretty good with these figures. I imagine it's probably pretty close to the size of the firehouse sign in this scale.

U know what dude your probably right in the long run. I think sometimes we all go a little crazy trying to customise all these items and when you finish doing it you just go 'meh' so yeah i can definetly understand where your coming from. Thats how things retain their value anyway from being in their original state.

The only thing stay puft could ever be in scale with would be micro machines ghostbusters if they ever released them lol

Well, as has been said ad nauseum, the 12 inch GBs are worth their price, in large part, for the equipment.

If they want to release much more generic figures like Janine or Peck with no fancy equipment and ^^^^ty sculpts. . .they better drop the price by $30 per figure or so if they want them to sell.

When it comes to classic cars there are people who like to trick them out and then there are people who don't even want to put in so much as a CD player and when it comes to my figures I want them the way they come from the factory, warts and all. I've seen genuine improvement in many custom projects I've seen here but even so I can't help but think of it as "ruining" the original piece.

As for the sculpts on these 12" figures, I'm kind of torn:

on one hand, I don't expect them to be Hot Toys quality

on the other hand, it would be nice.

on one hand, I don't know why they didn't have the 4 Horseman sculpt the heads

on the other hand, the cartoony style suits the source material.

Also, even though the Aykroyd likeness is the worst of the 4 it still looks like him. I've seen people say it resembles a lot of other actors and I don't see any of those likenesses. I think people just do that to be controversial. Even if you look at my crappy cellphone pic up there it's unmistakeably Aykroyd.

i gotta agree and disagree in parts to this part, i was 1 of those who 'dissed' the stantz sculpt but mainly cos its bad..to me. i gota say again i personaly dont see dan aykroyd in there. i said it not to be controversial, but because its how ifeel about it. but we all have out own opinions. :peace

Mattel is making Walter Peck on 6" and there have been hints of Lois and Jeanine,
also, they recently hinted about more than just the 4 GBs in the 12" scale...

yes id heard and read that if the initial 1st line of 6" gb figs sell well enough (the 4guys and peck) then they will move onto other characters and variations of the existing characters.

as for the 12" figs, i not heard them say about doing others, where/when did they mention that?/ id def be interested in those tho. but yeah the price would have to go down to like $20-40

ahh right,. cool thanks for that kuzeh!!

and again which ht bodys ru guna use for the guys?? goin back to the short legs for venkmans suit comments, they still look rather short on that hot toys bod u posted pics of with the suit changed over??

unless there is a shorter ht bod. i dont own many so not sure in their height sizes, i see the differences in the shoulder width etc in the various types of ht bods, but not height.

I wouldn't read any further into that. It's your stock "anything is possible!" answer.

Like the 6" figures the 4 main characters are a no-brainer because it's like 90% re-use across the board. However, new tooling is exponentially more costly in the 12" scale than it is in the 6" scale. Combine that with the fact that they're doomed to sell less and expecting these to sell at a level that would warrant non-GB figures is a tall order.

Furthermore, back on the subject of retooling on the 6" figures, there's no doubt in my mind that Walter Peck will be the Harvey Dent figure with a new head. I'm all for reuse when it works and that would work and re-using the same body for all 4 Ghostbusters works but even so, we're dealing with a company who isn't going to resculpt and retool unless they have to.

I have no doubt that all 4 12" figures will be released, I don't think the fact that Ray is available 8 days later has doomed the chances for further figures, I'm just not holding my breath for any more in addition to the 4 we've seen. I'd buy 'em, I just don't think they're coming.

It doesn't bother me though. As far as I'm concerned there's an appropriate correlation between scale and variety when you're an action figure collector. It wouldn't bother me one bit if the 4 Ghostbusters were all we got in the 12" scale. My OCD would go into overdrive if we didn't get the 4 guys themselves but I'm not chomping at the big for more. We'll get Peck, Janine, Louis, Dana etc. in the 6" line.

Not that things might not have changed, especially if it means Mattel would save a buck, at Comic-Con they did say that the Walter Peck there was a mock up and that the final figure would have a unique accurate suit body.

I agree completely on the correlation between scale and variety, it just seemed to work. The bigger a scale the more limited, yet complete, a collection can feel...as you get into 6" and 3.75", that's where a lot of variants and side characters make much more sense.

It'd be nice to get GBII 12" figures, but I'll be thrilled if all we get are the four guys in their original get-ups.

Got mine in the mail today and got a good look at him. Im really impressed with the pack and wand. Like really impressed lol. Anyway just an update for the folks interested in what Im dubbing my "hot toys quality kit". Ive got a good bit of interested on here and on gbfans so I think I'm gonna start this up tomorrow and get some pictures going. Ill make a post in the customs section so as to not highjack this thread in anyway but Ill be sure to link it from here! I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have to make this one hell of a great kit!

Just a heads up on what Im planing
Screen accurate t-500 and holder with "motorola" waterslide decals
Screen accurate elbow pads
New key holder
Screen accurate "belt gizmo" with real glass nixie tubes and screen accurate board + chips.
Cloth web belt (optional)

As I find more ways to improve upon this figure I may add to the list. Maybe a set of cloth gloves to tuck into the belt?

Eager to see what you got when you get pics up. But that's all the stuff I'd love to get to make this a kick *** custom.

I personally think the suit isn't all that bad. I like the smaller zippers as opposed to dragons king kong sized ones. Its not dark enough for me though so I may try to dye it. however I have to find a way to protect the silk screened ghost so he doesn't turn gray/tan aswell haha. This is the best picture I have right now to show off what the dragon zippers look like

Maybe tomorrow I can do a side by side shot for anyone interested.

I have one very VERY poor photo of the pad sculpt here

https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a337/_astro_zombie_/100_3877.jpg

I used my set of real ones as the reference. Its textured to look like felt-cloth and has the stitches sculpted in. I made cast of them in resin, hollowed out the backs, painted them, and now I'm in the process of making the cloth bands. If I do a run of them it will probably be like 5 or 10 bucks for a set of 4 (for all 4 GBs that is). I may also do a run of belt gizmos where I use small clear glass beads and thread for the nixies, aswell as having screen accurate circuit boards. If there is enough interest Ill keep you guys updated here.

And I guess if I REALLY get alot of interest Ill just do a whole kit with proper Motrola radios, key rings, gizmo, and pads. I know the GBs gear like the back of my hand thanks to 2 years worth of work on my Ray figure and 1:1 scale pack and gear :chew

For that price I'm definitely interested in this.
