Ok, so oddball question: is there an official Cannon reason for why Vader looks different in ANH than all the other movies, including ROTS?

I still wonder why ROTS did not look more like the ANH version than it did...

I think (although it's not official yet) that his armour changed when he got the crap kicked out of him by Starkiller in TFU...

Too true. I had always hoped that ROTS Vader would have looked like the Mcquarrie proto one myself....

That would have been cool. I'd have settled for it looking less advanced than the ANH suit. At least ANH through ROTJ looks like an improvement evolution. ROTS to ANH is like a de-evolution.

Exactly.....we all know the actual reasons, but I wish Lucas had used a less developed look. It makes sense your suit that you use to live would change over time....

I always thought of it as Vader simply having become a bit of a grumpy old man by the time we see him in ANH.
After all, the empire is nice and settled, the jedi are gone... there's simply not much for him to do, so he kinda "let go".
The this pesky little rebellion starts and he can't really be bothered to care for himself or his appearance, but then, by the end of ANH, he realizes the force is getting strong again, he senses his son, so that gives him purpose again.
Revitalized, he start "taking care" of himself again.

Huh... interesting idea.

I like Abake's take on it. That sounds a bout right to me based on the Dark Lord book by Luceno.

Sorry to bump an old thread but will you be able to put the cloth thats over the armored plate under it? So its more like ROTJ and the other movies?

I'm betting you won't, but guess we won't really know until we have him in-hand to see how he comes apart. I'm guessing they will do a ROTJ version later with the cloth under the armor and removable helmet.

I'm sure you could. It doesn't look like a difficult mod to do. Depends on how the neck and shoulder armor is put together.
But you'd have to do some repainting (at the very least) to get the look closer to ESB or ROTJ.

Why isn't this picture in this thread. :cuss

awesome Vader pic, gotta get me some more Stormies.

Very cool picture... where was it originally posted?

And the helmet might be a smidge small... but still looks great :rock

The Imperial officer looks oh so pedestrian compared to the awesomeness of Vader and the Stormies.

It's a shame that Sideshow often slacks off by producing (the much easier and cheaper) human characters most of the time, because it clearly is not their strength. Already, the armored characters are overshadowing this line (with the exception of Utapau Trooper... but then that might be fixed, too). Bravo! :clap

meh, he looks just like a officer from the films. So they are pedestrian in the movies as well.
