Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

No, Knightley wants out of POTC, and apparently Bloom's already declined involvement too.

The only hopes of a new Swann, and it's a big long shot, is if HT decided to revisit the original trilogy and put out some figures over the course of next year as they film POTC 4, otherwise the only characters from the first 3 films I expect to see figures from will be ones that reappear in POTC 4, which my guess, of anyone worth making a figure of, would be Barbossa.

And what about Geoffrey Rush in PotC4 - any word?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just my Jack AWE on a Clonobi body and everything fits pretty well. The shoulders still flare a bit on the jacket, but the height looks shortened and the clothes hang more loose. I might take pics or just wait until I get the slim body.

I remembered reading a news article somewhere recently that Geoffrey Rush has expressed interests in returning as Captain Barbossa for the 4th film. But as far as official word is concerned, only Depp is confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming new film so far.

Pirates of the Caribbean: TROUBLED WATERS...

From Deadline Hollywood...

And now Richard Cook's ouster may imperil a 4th Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. Noting that Cook first enticed him with the Pirates movie idea and there's no firm deal in place for No. 4, Johnny Depp said in a phone interview from London with Claudia Eller: "There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment," Depp said. "It was all born in that office."

Depp used words like "shocked... very sad" to describe his reaction when Cook called him a few hours ago to break the news. "He is the utmost gentleman, so he made the call himself. He said, 'I'd like you to hear it from me before you hear it from someone else or read it. He said today was my last day. He didn't give me a reason... I didn't see this coming. There was no reason to see this coming." Depp said "I consider ^^^^ a friend inside an insane system. He's instantly trustworthy. And you generally don't meet people at the studios you trust," Depp said. "He's a rare beast."

Hopefully this is an expression of disappointment and not something that will hinder the movie. "No firm deal in place" concerns me though.

Not a good sign...

No, it isn't. Of course ultimately it will depend on the script and how many people return from the original trilogy that Depp trusts that will make Depp's mind up on proceeding... but this will definitely stall the process I imagine. Just Depp saying his "enthusiasm" has waned in light of this shows that he will be dragging his feet on this a bit -- perhaps to assure he can get a budget that would allow for many of his compatriots to return for a 4th. Disney's gonna have to jump through some hoops for him now, and Disney isn't known for jumping through hoops for anyone.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, I truly believe that part of the fun for Depp was who he worked with on Pirates, with Gore not directing, Keira and Orlando not returning, possibly not even Rush coming back, and now this head guy being gone, it sounds like there's a big iffyness about how the next one will go for him, totally new conditions from before and I'm sure he's uneasy because he enjoys the experience as it was but doesn't know if he'll enjoy this new one as much.

I honestly don't see them moving forward without Depp, I think either they get him and it goes, or they don't and POTC 4 doesn't happen, or at least not for a few years. If they make a POTC without Sparrow, they'll need like a decade between films to help people leave the association behind, right now, I'm sure if they put out a POTC without Sparrow, people would be like, "Where's Jack?" and not even want to see it, really, who can you cast and what character can you make that could be as drawing in as Sparrow for a new film. Barbossa is great but not by himself. These movies are great ensembles but Jack was above and beyond the rest around him.

What boggles my mind is, I know there was an article saying he'd signed a deal for POTC 4, I remember thinking how insane the ammount he was going to make was considering it was just around the big plummet of the economy, apparently that article was either BS or it was merely an offer perhaps but no commitments.

Likely an offer, pending certain 'agreements' on both sides. Disney probably didn't want to invest time and money in developing a 4th without Depp at least agreeing to agree at a later date. Probably like a deal memo: I'll do it if.

Now of course that all seems to be up for renegotiation. Too many elements have changed so it's likely that Depp/Disney will be negotiating for quite some time on this. They have about 6 months from now to get this settled and get into pre-production if they want to make the 2011 Summer date.

Interesting too that they canned this guy AFTER they announced the new film's title at D23. Disney knew that Depp would be unhappy about Cook being canned so they cranked up the public pressure by announcing the film and date.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Plus Depp showing up in full costume. I'm sure that's part of his frustration, he's no idiot, really, they're making themselves look like ^^^^^^^s in this situation and it's not going to be for their best in the end, either he walks or they pay through the roof to get him.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Small thing and probably irrelevan to most, but I finally figured out why the the smirking head doesn't work as well for me as it could.

On the right side of his face, his mouth tucks into his cheek as it should for pulling a smile, on the left side, the mouth takes the same smiling curve as the right, but doesn't tuck, so his mouth is fully smiling and only one side is properly wrinkled. If his lips had just been more straight and less out to the cheek with his mustache on the left side, I think the smirk effect would have been perfect.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Good observation. I also think that the face may be a bit too wide, as well. He looks a tiny bit chubby when viewed up close.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That is great news. Hopefully that will encourage Depp to get his act together too. I could almost see them being able to do PotC without Sparrow if they have Barbossa, but I don't think many other people could.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If there were no Sparrow, Barbossa's inclusion is probably all that could really keep my interest in POTC, but I don't see Barbossa as a lead, just an amazing supporting character. Even though he was more an allie in Worl's End, he still was more a bad guy pirate than Jack, you still need that heroic, good guy pirate to balance things.

I'm sure working with Rush again will add some temptation for Depp. I'm excited to see he'll be back, if this all moves forward with Depp and all, should be an awesome movie and what I hope it'd be, which is Barbossa and Jack competing to find the Fountain of Youth, and undoubtedly another plan of Jack's to regain the Pearl.

"All of this pale's to utter insignificance in light of the fact that my ship is once again gone, savvy."

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

and undoubtedly another plan of Jack's to regain the Pearl.

I'm a bit tired of that stroyline, but it does seem like a logical beat based on Jack's character.

Glad Barbossa is in, which means Pintel and Ragetti are too (if they follow the logic of who's on the Pearl with Barbossa).

Now, will Jack stumble upon Gibbs somewhere as well?

Well, it's innevitable, or at least should be, the Pearl is his most treasured thing in life. One thing I always wanted to know after DMC was more of the history of the Pearl, Davy Jones raised it from the depths for Sparrow, so how did it get there, how Sparrow learned of it, and why it meant so much to him that he'd bargain with Jones for it really fascinated me.

That is interesting. Perhaps more mystery will be resolved about this Pearl. Though I hope they don't do some kind of flashback to show the history.

Maybe the Pearl was Ponce de Leon's ship, and will tie into the Fountain lore somehow, and why Jack is so fascinated by the ship and perhaps it's secrets. Could a key piece to the puzzle be imbedded aboard the Pearl itself?
