So RO is clearly the New Hope prequel and no longer ROTS, although it still is?

"RO is the prequel we deserve, just not the one we need right now."

As an anthology film it sits below the major episodes as an optional extra, i.e. not essential to the main saga (hence the lack of an opening crawl). But of course it can be watched as a standalone or among the main instalments.

I'm no doubt in the minority round these parts, but I rank RO roughly in the same league as ROTS, putting it slightly below TFA, with the OT above that.

It occurred to me that both Disney SW films end with a legacy character appearing in the last few seconds just so they can be handed something. :lol

James Cameron: "The way George Lucas utilized Tarkin, suited Darth Vader, and the Death Star at the end of ROTS was much more imaginative than RO. Having them all just standing there watching the toilets and air conditioning being installed was just brilliant."

:lol

All I know is that Erso/Krennic/Tarkin are responsible for the Death Star, my mind has blocked out those dumb looking insects from AOTC. :lol

I was so sick of not being part of the conversation that I just skipped 40 pages, hope I didnt miss anything good. You guys need to slow down, I just don't have the time to keep up.

Crazy that All of the top 5 movies are Disney movies, and will soon have 4 billion dollar earners under its belt for 2016.

I have done two viewings so far and will be saving my third for home, which will immediately be followed by Star Wars, can't wait to see how seamlessly they flow into eachother.

Like eveyone has said pretty seamless as long as you relax your mind.

they were probably the intergalactic equivalent of cheap labor to get the ball rolling, empire had a pretty liberal policy on employing undocumented aliens at that time from what I recall....

"I will tell the Emperor that the weapons test was successful and that I will be assuming control of this project that I first mentioned years ago." Seemed to be RO's subtle way of retconning out any involvement with Geonosian bugs. Because according to AOTC they had already had the DS completely designed and it was Count Dooku that presented the finished schematic to Palpatine. So that movie didn't leave any room for it to be Tarkin's brainchild in any way.

RO says otherwise because it's a "replacement prequel." One of the reasons they didn't post a scroll was probably because they didn't want to call out that they were the "new" Episode III nor did they want to spell out in several paragraphs any mention of prequel events (since again, they weren't acknowledging them and were instead contradicting them.) But they kept Jimmy Smits similar to how the Schumacher Bat movies kept Michael Gough and how Casino Royale kept Judi Dench. Familiar faces in films that otherwise aren't linked at all.

anything which un-does any aspect of AOTC (aside from mid-drif bearing Padme) is ok in my book....

They definately succeeded at making Vader bad ass again after ROTJ and then the ROTS NOOOO fiasco.

Think about that again, Vader in his full costume hasn't been bad ass since 1980!

Hell, I would say Anakin/Vader since 1980!

Now, killing younglings did not make Anakin a bad ass, it made me question the forgiveness he received later on instead.

I too watched ANH after RO and the flow was smooth. Seeing the characters transition from movie to movie was great. One thing though is the CGI on the EE of ANH is TERRIBLE! It needs to be updated.

You've got to get Harmy Star Wars man, high definition restorations of the original theatrical cuts. The movements of the ship models obviously don't perfectly match how they maneuvered in RO but then neither does the Falcon in ESB compared to ANH. I probably got the biggest chuckle seeing the quiet ghost town of Mos Eisley that Ben was so concerned about after that harsh war zone of Jedha.

Star Wars didn't need Revenge of the Sith or Rogue One as prequels.

Who cares how Palpatine came into power or how Vader turned to the Dark Side or how the Death Star plans were obtained? It's redundant. The Star Wars story is about Luke and his friends anyway. Everything that tries to deviate from that like the prequels (Anakin/Obi-Wan), the sequels (Rey/Finn) and "a Star Wars Story" (Jyn, Woody Harrelson) is pointless because it never really does.

If you're going to make Star Wars films how about doing stories that have nothing to do with the timeline in which the events of the current films take place? Something that doesn't involve the Skywalkers or the Empire or Han Solo.

Just wait until I find a photo of you pumping your fists in the air during the climax of RO. :lol

TFA was very much needed. After the destruction of the DS II, redemption and then death of Darth Vader and defeat of the Emperor I always wondered "but what about the ashes of the Empire, what became of those?" And now I finally know.

Can someone point me to the line of dialog from AotC where it says the Geonocians were the authors/designers of the Death Star. All I can discern is that they were assigned the task of figuring out how to build it. So I don't see RO as containing any sort of Retcon.

Poggle the Lesser: "I'm sending my warriors to hide in the catacombs. The Jedi must not find our designs for the ultimate weapon. If they find out what we are planning to build, we're doomed."

Count Dooku: "I will take the designs with me to Coruscant. They will be much safer there with my master."

According to AOTC the Geonosians were the ones who had both designed and planned to build the Death Star. Dooku apparently just stole the designs from them and handed them over to Palpatine.

Ooooooh soooo catty.

Obviously on some levels I agree with you. Hence my comments regarding the upcoming Han Solo movie and whatever else Disney has planned. Of course Rogue One wasn't "needed" because we have the opening scroll of ANH. But the case can also be made that no fictional movie ever is needed. So rather than bemoaning unnecessary movies that are good and enjoyable I'll instead save my energy for calling out when they screw up instead. :lol
