Honestly most people shouldn't give a **** about this Vader being released in terms of money/value reasons. It was already potentially overproduced and was losing value fast and it had nothing to do with this re-issue. The Hot Toys ANH version has come out, is superior in most people's eyes, and if we think the value on the Deluxe has dropped now, wait until a HT ESB or ROTJ Vader comes out. How's everyone feeling about the value of their SS limited edition ANH Vader?

In principle I understand and agree with the notion that if something is sold as limited edition it should remain that way (and changing a cod piece shouldn't count as a new figure) and Sideshow's tactics with this release and Boba Fett are highly questionable, but Boba was also dropping in value as well, and again it didn't have to do with the re-issue but with the incoming Hot Toys figure.

As far as the Probe Droid goes I'll be honest and say that as an owner of this I'm happy that others have a chance to get it. It's phenomenal.

I'm guessing many who are disappointed paid retail for the droid the first time so I don't see the complaint there(I give reprieve to those that paid aftermarket). The only thing lost is aftermarket value and potential for flipping, which isn't a big sacrifice considering the many others that can have one now at retail. And I'm guessing the potential to entice new collectors with chances to buy previously sold out items may outweigh losing out on resellers/exclusive collectors. Business models are organic, they evolve based on current market trends this may be the better current business model.

exactly!!! :) what they did in 2005 is different today. licensing is higher. demand is higher. popularity has grown. they couldnt last based on early 2002 business model.

i personally dont care about value. i just care about stuff i like and want to have. im not going to become a rich girl off toys that they make 10s of thousands of or more. its fun to say a figure is worth $500 but if i dont plan to ever sell it, it doesnt really matter. plus the thousands of people who mod figures pretty much make their stuff not mint anymore, they have fun in their own way. theres many ways to collect and new collectors pop up everyday. value is an aspect to some but not all. i buy comic books because i love the art and stories. i dont think any are really worth much. i collected stickers when i was little. they arent wirth anything, i just had fun.

ok. goodnight xx

I like how SSC is marketing this as the ROTJ version but they threw in the severed hand and exposed Anakin HS with the previous release :slap

You actually make a great point. Who would want to buy this Vader vs the SS deluxe for the same price? The extras from that would be a better offering. Outside of the improved banana hammock and gloves this one should be a shelf warmer given the Vader alternatives. The part outs for this Vader will be trigger finger fast to pick up the wanted parts. :lol

Gonna be a race for those gloves. Toyanxiety will have to price them at $20 each to break even on the figure. :lol

I have to say, everything from the neck down on this looks pretty darn good to me, and a big improvement over the original. It appears to have a better bodysuit, better gloves, better cape and tunic, and even the body and overall proportions appear much better and less awkward than before. And while the lightsaber isn't the greatest, even that is better than the giant Hasbro blade it used to have.

Unfortunately... there's just no getting around that awful awful mask. Shame they couldn't have expended just a bit more energy to get that right.

Wow, that comparison pic really shows that it's an improved figure. Agree that from the neck down it looks great. Love how the cape lays flat against chest armor. The proportions all around look better.

Think I'll be picking up cod piece, gloves, undersuit, and maybe chest armor if it is actually different to the deluxe.

This is the prototype though, so tough to judge finer details like the drape of the cape, and the legs are hidden in most of the photos--seems like they hid the small waist of the TIE pilot with their prototype photos as well, unless the proto just didn't have a small waist.

Height was a problem for me and some other folks with this Vader and there doesn't seem to be an indication that they corrected that.

I think SSC will make more money when these are parted out because I'm sure 75% of the people buying these will use these parts for a HT Vader mod :lecture

That is until the HT ROTJ Vader becomes a reality

While this does look like an improvement, especially concerning the arms/hands, I think I am happy with the deluxe Vader I got a year ago, lol.

I can retrace the chain of events that led to my frustration, paranoia and anti-social diagnosis.

1. Jango Fett is released in "Humpy Dumpty in fragile pieces after his fall" fashion.
2. X-Wing Luke is released with a staggering price.
3. The x wing Luke price is paid and then we see the head sculpt
4. Hot Toys steam rolls forward while blowing our minds with speed and accuracy for the most part
5. SS re-releases Boba Fett with less
6. SS Vader is re-released
7. Generic hexagon bases run rampant through the city

Did I miss anything?

Edited: 8. The Darth Maul 2.0 release with no cloak and staggering price.

Edit again: the Probe Droid is being re-released also. Same price as the original release but taking away the snow base.

Move all if that down a couple numbers on the timeline and put all of the Hoth Han & Luke issues for 1 & 2. And that's if we're just talking Star Wars. If not make room for Drake, and Snake, and....

I'd like to know if the body is the same as the deluxe, or if it's improved. Trying to weigh out if it pays to just get the whole set and sell off the saber and whatever else I don't need, or to just go for the parts I need to upgrade my deluxe. I can get a great deal on this thru my buddy so that's the only reason I'm considering it

I was more referring to him constantly posting about it but I would be curious to know what SS would say.

Been away for a bit... but to be clear I was not going to call anyone, that was the point of that message. But I did contact Sideshow to voice my concerns, they were polite and the rep (one of the higher-ups, but his name is escaping me) was understanding, but essentially stated they are doing this in an effort to give collectors who missed out a chance to buy the figures.

I disagree, but that's what it is. But, in the case of Vader that's really not true as the DX is still readily available at or below retail on the secondary market. So for the same price as this "new" version you can get more figure and get it now :lol

Eh, you're not really grasping the issue, so no need to try and shut down conversation with the ol' 'don't like don't buy' chestnut.

Agreed, whether you collect because of the value of pieces or not does not change the fact that they have monetary value. I don't buy to flip, but I also like to know that when I buy a piece it will not be later re-released in a manner that hurts the current value. I'm okay with legitmate v2 and variants; bought many of them over the years, but to just half-*** a re-release like this is not what I expect from Sideshow and I am disappointed.

When you get right down to it, that picture is not very flattering to any of those Vaders.

No they are not... in-hand the HT Vader is incredible though, and I was pleased to see the height was much better than the Sideshow pieces and his body proportions really looked good. But of course the big difference is the helmet; HT really did a stellar job capturing the ANH look. I don't see anyone producing a better Vader (aside from the eventual ESB or ROTJ from Hot Toys) in the near future.

Buy the Hot Toys and skip Sideshow figures :lecture

Your Vaders need to get their garbs pressed, see what long term storage does!
