The next Star Wars movie is scheduled for release in 2022 and it's not being done by Rian Johnson so I'm guessing his Trilogy has been put on hold indefinitely... Rian Johnson has stated he would like to direct some Mandalorian episodes :panic:

IMO a horrific idea:sick; not because he didn't have some interesting ideas at times, and IMO some beautiful shots in TLJ - but because of statements like:

https://www.indiewire.com/2019/12/rian-johnson-catering-to-fans-mistake-star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-1202197921/
Johnson added, ?I want to be shocked, I want to be surprised, I want to be thrown off-guard, I want to have things recontextualized, I want to be challenged as a fan when I sit down in the theater? What I?m aiming for every time I sit down in a theater is to have the experience [I had] with ?Empire Strikes Back,? something that?s emotionally resonant and feels like it connects up and makes sense and really gets to the heart of what this thing is and in a way that I never could have seen coming.?

Yeah, sure, except IMO there's a difference in someone like Taika Waititi who can take Thor, make use of Hemsworth's skills with humor, and still keep the core nobility of the character. Plus skilled directors don't throw in rampant visual idiocies like Poppins Leia:pfft: (and I can't believe, in the still hours of the night, lowly technicians editing the film weren't laughing their *ss off). Heart of what thing? Animal/child abuse has been done far better elsewhere. Why bother, when in theory, the whole point of the film is the expanding First Order crushes everyone and everything? The idea of "all sides are guilty" might've gone somewhere, maybe later Finn having an introspective moment, but it doesn't. :huh How is making no use of Phasma and BB-8 the hero of the hour challenging me? Etc. *&^%$ writing.

Not sayin' RJ doesn't have a skill set, and who knows how much KK & co. messed stuff up, but - the guy's already blabbed about his Mando set visit - he needs to be kept far away from Mandalorian and the Disney series. Anyone who thought the slow space chase and the BS with Holdo just not explaining stuff doesn't need to be anywhere near a SW set:horror. I like some stuff in TLJ, but not enough to want RJ around. He's not as good as his ego sez he is. Favreau said he's directing an episode Mando season 2; Carl Weathers another; maybe 6 more slots to go? and lock RJ and JJ out. JJ sez he's done with SW anyway. Russos might be candidates, maybe https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2462547/the-russo-brothers-would-totally-direct-a-star-wars-movie

I wonder what the deal is with Gareth Edwards. I never got the impression that there's bad blood between him and LFL but it seems pretty conspicuous that Tony Gilroy is getting his own series and then you've got major MCU directors like Taika Waititi contributing to The Mandalorian but absolutely nothing from Gareth whatsoever (even outside of SW.)

I wonder if Gilroy's comments about RO being a mess until he came aboard really rippled through all the studios.

They kiss and then a few shots later, nose lady is leading her off to the forest.:horror

They should have shown them ****. It’s 2020 afterall. Hell, I wanted to see Maz Kanata join in on the fun. You just know her and old ass Leia were into degenerate ****.

Yeah, I have wondered about this too. I know he was fired from the Godzilla sequel years ago but I'm not sure why.

I hung out with him for a day 8 years ago and kicked myself years later that I didn't try to stay in touch. :slap He was just a young FX guy who had made a ultra-low budget movie back then. A real super SW fan and awesome to chat with.

I do get the sense that Hollywood views FX people who break through in a different way - like they get one or two shots and if they don't pan out Hollywood moves on to the next hot talent. I'm thinking of "Sky Captain" director Kerry Conran (who made a huge splash 15 years ago) or even Neil Blommkamp who did "District 9" and even the Matt Damon follow-up but seems to have faded since "Chappie" five years ago.

Maz's double-butt eyes always looked a bit suspect to me.:lol

Poe's parents were Luke's wingmen as he fled the second Death Star, ensuring his Imperial Shuttle wasn't destroyed on sight.

They later got it on at the Endor celebrations, and Poe was conceived.

Poe grew up near a "Force tree" that grew from a sapling Luke recovered from an Imperial research facility, though his apparent Force sensitivity was never explored in the films.

Why bury it in a place where Luke never wanted to return to where he saw his Aunt and Uncle burned to a crisp? Where his father was a slave and his grandmother was brutally slaughtered? It makes no sense.

Why is it a good ending?

It made more sense as nostalgia/fan service than it did in-universe. Though sometimes we still feel a connection to where we come from even if we never want to go back there.

I guess JJ thought if they had a "feelgood" ending it would make up for the preceding two-and-a-half hours!

This is incredibly stupid, but at least it's not racist.

None of this explains why he became a drug dealer in a movie about space wizards for children.

Nope, JJ disregards everything. Also, in the comics the Empire's final downfall was at Jakku, but in TROS it was Endor.

Meanwhile John Boy is at it again (actually this is a previous one):

Yeah Blomkamp was all gung ho about doing his own "Alien 3" with Sigourney and Biehn and then Fox greenlit Covenant instead and then he was all gung ho about doing "RoboCop Returns" until that fell through as well. I think he's working on a short film now, lol.

DiFabio asked so i?ll answer.

Yes I was there opening summer 77.

SW is heroin to me but the dealer changed from GL to Disney.

Once heroin gets a hold of you it owns your soul you are going down with the ship.

Like a junkie I always need my new fix.

Take my arm Disney i?m all yours.

We'll all still be on here in two decades' time, more sarcastic, posting wtf comments at the new trilogy's 95% rating on RT.:lol Cursing that we ever heard the terms "Star Wars" and even worse, "trilogy," in the first place.

And in the SW Action Figures threads, we'll be b*tching about paying $1,525 for our standard 1/6 scale figures, when the previous year they were only $1,499. :lol

Why does Star Wars even need space drugs, drug dealers, violent cartels, space junkies, the star war on drugs and drug rehab in the first place? Did they really need to add Breaking Bad to the "saga"? I need a ST apologist/fanboy to explain these narrative choices to me.

Was it really Carrie's daughter and Nose Lady that did the Lesbo kiss?

Sadly, no. As hot and sexy and boneriffic as this amazing kiss was, it would have been sooooo hot seeing Nose Lady slip some tongue to Carrie Jr.

Yep I was there also...

Star Wars was such a part of everyone's life back then.. I lived ad breathed SW.

All the adventures I created in my head with the action figures. Going to shopping stores and pouring over the SW isle. Wanting everything.

Listening to the soundtrack as that was the only way to see the movie multiple time.. Replaying it in your head.

Getting the Story of the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi records with actual dialogue form the film... Almost as good as seeing the movie.. I didn't get Story of Star Wars till many years later.. BUT Taping Star Wars on cassette tape from the TV when it was on HBO (or showtime) and playing that over and over again.

It was star wars morning day and night.. It consumed my every thought for the longest time.

Like Jye.. I would say its heroin.... But the Heroin has not been as good.. Not even close.

TLJ was the film that made me hit rock bottom. I was off of SW for a whole two years.. I couldn't even get into the OT... I just didn't care.

TROS was some great heroin.. Sure it was the cheap stuff but it gave me a nice brief high and has left me wanting more Star Wars again..

Been watching the OT with the kids and its been great. Love falling off the wagon :)

Well, if you got a good "hit" from Rise of Skywalker, then how good was Mandalorian? Keith Richards good?

Our "blu-rays" as kids were watching Saturday morning cartoons and hoping to see a Kenner ad that happened to show a few seconds of SW footage at the beginning, lol. That was "holy crap I just saw some of Star Wars at home!" :lol

Yep. The biggest problem with the tech guys is they usually have terrible social skills and can't work well with talent. That's what kills them.

That's sweet.

:lol

I remember always watching just the beginning intro of Entertainment Tonight when it first started because they showed that shot of Vader's TIE shooting at Red Leader.
