The HFR didn't look like 'real life' to me - no one moves that fast when walking in his hallway in 'real life'

It looked sped up, artificial, and looked like, well, a badly made tv show. Was it immersive? **** no, it was annoying. Not once could I enjoy the movie, except for the real dark parts - then it all looked ok

Everyone's talking about the "speed" effect, but what about the hyper-clarity? That's just as much of an issue.

IMHO it's foolish to want as much clarity and resolution as possible in a movie that features so much makeup on the actors. McKellan's Gandalf hair & makeup looks laughably fake at times. And don't even get me started on the dwarves...

Yeah, i'm not getting the speed thing.

News studio video clarity is the problem.

Looks like you're watching a broadway show.

The speed was the bigger issue for me but yeah the makeup and CGI looked really bad at some points.

I don't have an issue with clarity in theory but Makeup/FX are not advanced enough yet to work with that level of clarity.

Fake is fake sure but you can make it look closer and closer to reality until a point where the eye/brain is not able to perceive the difference

Can you list some examples for each thing so a non-nerd like me can understand what all you nerds are crying about? Thanks.

I like the high refresh rate when I play video games and watch cgi toons. But live action that **** is off.

It feels very artificial.

The only parts where I actually liked the HFR was with the full CGI characters. Specific ones being the trolls, the goblins and Goblin King, Gollum, Azog. They really looked amazing.

Probably the mix of motion capture, photo-realistic textures, modelling, and their movements didn't seem exaggerated as the live actors. Though there were times (mostly shots with only CGI characters) that felt like I was watching a video game cutscene.
