The parents. My in-laws started suggesting that kinda stuff early on in the marriage, for my wife's siblings to do because I worked nights, and I flat-out just said no. I'm not going to be responsible for other people's children and their behavioral issues. Then I added that I would be seeking replacements for any of the all but irreplaceable collectibles I have should one break it, adding aftermarket HT values, etc.. Tune changed right quick.

kid: mommy, does uncle nam hate me?
mom: no dear why would you ask such a question?
kid: well when we go over there he never lets me play with his toys.......
mom: oh honey not to worry, uncle nam is just making sure you stay healthy & are able to attend college.
kid: really? um okay but what does that have to do with playing with his toys?
mom: when you are a bit older i will explain what preemptive strike means......(pats kid on head)

That's because, apparently, the educational system is fundamentally just a Socialist learning center created for the sole purpose of brainwashing people into becoming more successful than "auto detailers" which are essentially just glorified car washers.
