Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

My only concern with integrating more and more properties into Marvel Universe is that they are going to get as much attention as they otherwise might. Look at the X-Men universe as it stands now. Cyclops has received almost no attention at all until the last film. And he is one of the major players in the Marvel Universe and has been since the early 60s. You shoehorn him into the same universe that has Iron Man Captain America Thor now Star-Lord dr. Strange Spider-Man Etc and he's going to play a secondary backseat role almost every time out. Same with no doubt go for Venom. At least with Sony you have a chance to have those kinds of characters explored with a little more depth. But there are pros and cons to either way obviously.

I just vomited inside my mouth.

>wants to see MAXIMUM CARNAGE THE R-RATED EPIC
>doesn't want to see Spider-Man and other heroes teaming-up to fight Venom
>wants the GROWN-UP SPIDER-MAN
>doesn't want to see Spider-Man interacting with other characters

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

This notion that unjustified superhero crossover trumps individual character development and overall film quality is asinine.

"Why didn't Thor show up in LOGAN to help Xavier and Wolvie? That would have been so cool man"

"How come Martian Manhunter didn't help Batman fight The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT? That movie would have been less depressing and more fun"

It would of been totally radical dude. Like dude.... can you imagine Thor coming in shocking all those soldier guys with his electricity? It would be soooooo tubular. Thor would of made that movie ten times more fun! And less sad!

Cowabunga!

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Rumors from 4chan (most likely ****posting, but eh):

Eddie Brock is still a disgraced journalist, but rather than the Sin Eater he was duped by Cleetus Kassady, and Kassady was brought down by Detective Jean DeWolff rather then Spider-Man himself. Kassady was also a killer-for-hire for mob boss Silvio Manfredi.

Brock finds out Kassady has been moved to the privately-funded Ravencroft Institute and breaks in to investigate, as he's obsessed with getting revenge on Kassady for ruining his life. As it turns out, Kassady is being used in experiments conducted by Dr. Miles Warren to weaponize an alien symbiote that has been recovered from a crash site by their benefactor (OsCorp). **** goes wrong, and Brock bonds with the original symbiote while Warren's "clone" bonds with Kassady.

Kassady becomes Carnage and essentially goes on a rampage, hellbent on toppling Manfredi's empire after Manfredi betrayed him. Brock grappes with the changes in his organism and a telepathlic link that allows him to sense what Carnage is up to.

Warren's assistant Ashley Kafka finds out about the whole thing. They fall in love as Ashley helps Brock overcome his issues and become Venom in order to stop Carnage while both are being hunted by both Warren and DeWolff.

Mac Gargan is featured as the leader of OsCorp's private military unit, armed with sound-based weaponry, and we also get Robbie Robertson as Brock's old editor at the Daily Goble, and Robbie Farrell as Brock's street-wise informant and friend who dies. Frankie Barrison also appears as Kassady's psycho junkie girlfriend, while Patrick Mulligan is featured as DeWolff's partner.

Spider-Man is not involved in the plot at all, but there's a passing reference to him. Just the bare minimum to establish that he might exist in that universe.

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Wait, what? Andrew Garfield was originally going to play Spidey in Civil War? And then after a couple more movies they were going to make him fight Tobey's Spidey???

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Hey, don't ask me. I'm not smart enough to get into the mind of those people. They're playing 11D chess man. They projected the Sinister Six making 2 Billion. So, uh, yeah...

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Sounds stupid enough. I can see SONY tryin' it out.
To start with Venom not being the black Spidey suit is stupid. To start with Eddie Brock not being a bad guy is stupid. The Jean DeWolf storyline needs to be the next Spidey film, where he teams up with Daredevil to deal with her killer. Not this junk. I was thinking about that just the other day. Make it so, movie studios.

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Wow that sounds stupid enough to be true.

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

Sheesh I hope that really isn't Sony's big plan for a venom movie as it sounds lame and is such a departure from the source material it may as well just be a different character.

And ... Those leaked emails from 2013 were very interesting. Even when reserving my judgement slightly until I see homecoming I stil think I would have preferred their original plan to retain Andrew Garfield for the MCU deal which would eventually lead to a cross over with the Tobey Maguire spidey - could have been awesome.

Since the eventual deal turned out pretty different to Sony's plans/hopes (MCU have creative control and re-cast spiderman) I'm guessing that Sony overestimated their hand.

Re: Venom Movie: Sony working on the Spin-Off

I would have preferred that they kept Garfield as Spider-Man. As problematic as certain elements of the ASM movies were there were significant aspects that I liked a *lot.* He deserved to show up at the airport after the emotional meat grinder that ended ASM2.
