I think it's funny that everyone likes to call all these politicians on both sides idiots, yet in reality if any of us were to sit across the table from any of them one on one they'd tear us apart. So if they're idiots, what's that make us?

I am smart enough not to put myself across the table from one of them.

No. That isn't in any way relevant to modern man. We were educated and we knew better. The reason why so much racism exists on BOTH sides is BECAUSE we didn't abolish slavery immediately upon becoming a country. Now hate has infested both sides and it will not end any time soon.

As far as reverse racism... I know.. I've been through it. I was jumped several times, two of those times it was an entire GANG of African-Americans. So I KNOW what it's like. It was unforgivable. But we set that ball in motion.

I don't think so. I think a lot of what she says was true in 1985 when she wrote that and is true now. Carl you're a white guy who can easily move within our culture. Neither of us would begin to understand any kind of difficulty she may have had back then or people do now that aren't white.

You make too many assumptions, my friend. First off, I come from a mixed family. My mother is half-black and actually "looks" black. Her mother (my grandmother) was from Africa and Mom's family is from Trinidad. And my step-family are all 1st generation Cuban. Sure, I have never walked in the shoes of a slave or an oppressed black man from 1957... but neither have 95% of the people who still harbor that resentment.

Anyway, as someone who comes from a mixed family (and lives in a powderkeg like Atlanta) I know all too well about the scourge of racism... REAL racism... and that it also exists on BOTH sides.

I cannot blame minorities if they don't care for white people all that much as we've not exactly been real nice to them over the years and still aren't to this day.

I was discriminated against all my life as a white athlete, even to the point where I was told by a recruiter at Memphis "they like their skilled players a little darker" and by a few pro teams that had a round about way of getting to the same point. Do I get a get out of jail free card if I want to blame minorities?

And even if they weren't, I have never personally oppressed a minority in any way one time in my entire life. Therefore, while I regret that is a part of anyone's history, it's nothing I am at all responsible or guilty for.

And you DAMN WELL KNOW that if it were the other way around it's all the media and anyone else would be talking about and McCain would likely have dropped out of the race already.

But whites allowed slavery to exist, we decided that we didn't want to separate the fragile union we created and allowed it to exist for a while before getting rid of it. And it almost cost us our country.

But the damage was done, and both sides have harbored ill will about it since.

So let's put the racism issue to bed and move back to what we were really talking about, and what really matters. The frakin election!

I'm not saying YOU personally were responsible. Hell, I'm mostly Scottish and Native American... But the point is... WHITES.. Wasps if you will, decided to allow it. And being white in this country, it will lump you in with the group. Just the way it is.

It's not about GUILT, nobody alive today is guilty unless they are actual practicing BIGOTS. But it's a real issue that affects every American today, no matter what you or I believe. Eventually, it will go away, but for now... it's still there.

I'm not saying that I WANT people lumped into groups. But they are. America is still filled with a lot of ignorant souls, and they do the lumping. I am only trying to break down those barriers by being fair and equal to everyone, and shining light on the injustices that still exist.

I'm not responsible for any evils of racial or religious oppressions, I take part in none. But America did what they did, and we as a people are suffering for it. End of story.
