I just checked this thread to see if I needed this too and it looks like I'll be fine with my ANH version with tunic under the vest mod.

I own the RO and I love it even more now that the ESB turned out less than what I expected

Oh and I got an ANH V2 head from ebay just for the hell of it to compare it. In hand it looks a lot cheaper and plasticky than the RO head and the TUSK TUBES ARE THE WRONG COLOR (black) on the ANH and that's really noticeable . And the cheek parts that are supposed to be black are gunmetal/silver.. It looks like all the colors on the helmet are inverted (black and gunmetal parts) and overall the helmet looks too grey instead of black

So now I doubly love my Rogue One helmet because it has a relatively accurate paint scheme!

The main issue on the RO was the gigantic cod piece but i put an ANH V2 cod on it and it looks stellar

Rogue One Vader for the win. A lot more presence, amazing helmet.

ESB loses a lot of likeness in the long face, narrow eyes and stout size.

I just looked up some pictures of the ANH V2 helmet. Dang. That’s probably the LEAST accurate paint job on any 1/6 Vader! It’s all kinds of wrong.

While preparing my shelf for ESB Vader, I also just noticed today (after, what? 10 years?) that the old first SS ANH 1/6 Vader has the wrong facemask paint scheme. They used the ESB black/gunmetal pattern (which has more parts painted black, making a more “complete” checkerboard pattern). Of course, there SO many other issues with that figurethe wrong paint pattern on the mask isn’t really the first thing to jump out a you... :lol

Man, several bummer reviews in a row. That’s depressing!
.

I think once I have some time to really play around and futz him I'll be more okay with him. He does have shelf presence and finding the right pose is crucial. I haven't found that yet but only had an hour with him. And as owners of this figure know, if you start by putting in his batteries and setting up his display base, that's almost an hour itself!

The ANH V1 is also the same paint job with black tusk tubes. That's the type of thing you don't notice watching videos but really pops out when you see it on your shelf. The black tusk tubes seem to throw off the entire face mask sculpt because all the colors are reversed

For some reason I never saw anyone complain about it in this forum

That makes the RO head automatically better than the V1 and V2 ANH

yes, but at least it's a form of Vader that appeared on screen .It's not as off putting as the black tusk tubes with the triangle in between the tubes painted silver

I wonder what are the odds we'll get a Bespin Luke redone out of this?

I am crossing my fingers. Even if it's not a DX but just Luke and Bespin fatigues with an interchangeable head from normal to bloody would be great.

Settled on a position I liked. The more I mess around with him the more I like him. Here he is next to his younger self.

Hmm... in hand, my impression is that this helmet is going to need some work. The undersize of the nose jumps out at me as much as the mouth oversize.

I'd foresee a more likely route would be basic Bespin Luke, then you can remove the jacket and belt (add the included Yoda backpack), and you got Dagobah Luke. Or just market it as a Dagobah version, but include the jacket & belt. Then again, if they went that route, it might be pretty weathered up..but doubt it.

Give it a more accurate headsculpt and get rid of those huge snap button closures.

Nice shots!

Thank you. Playing around with him and like him more and more. Btw, thank you for the suggestion of moving his battery pack located on his back. I did as you did and now the belt can be lowered to my desired height. Makes a lot of difference.

I really wish the figure looked as good to me in hand as it does in some of these pics.

Yeah in hand he is a different beast. I think it has to do with lighting. Vader in Empire is all about the silhouette. The HT figure has it's flaws for sure and seeing every detail up close makes him lose some of his appeal. But I do think the silhouette can be achieved. I really wish I still had my really nice digital camera. iPhone pics suck for resolution.

Also once you find a pose you like I don't want to mess around with him to repose and switch out hands. Hand switching for me is much more difficult than the RO version I had. I do wish I could put him in a more dynamic pose to go with the base, but I am pleased with the hands resting on his belt pose. Just not the pose you think of when posing him on the base he comes with, making me want to get a standard Vader stand for him that came with previous releases.
