Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS297 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Luke Skywalker Collectible F...

I only engaged in this topic out of a mild interest because I noticed the figure may treat Luke like a left hander by providing only a left handed blaster hand ...
Good eye!

I'm not here to argue. Multiple people have already suggested the saber will likely use the same arm part as Kenobi. I think the LED saber looks like crap and I couldn't care less if it's even included. In the movies, Luke wields his saber with right-hand dominance (right hand top, left hand bottom or right hand only), so if HT does a left-hand only LED saber, it's again their lack of attention to detail.

Maybe you're confusing my not giving a rat's ass as argumentative. Bottom line: who cares? It's too late to change anything, so just wait for the figure to come out.

Incidentally, by providing a left gun-griping hand and a right-handed LED saber hand it would allow Luke to wield both at the same time - seems like something HT would do.

What's funny though is that since the saber is usually wielded with the two hands, the left hand would be at the bottom of the saber hilt (just saw that Pixel pointed this out) for it to have the right-handed look (like a baseball bat). Or if the right hand is connected then it should be toward the top of the hilt.

cool, thanks :)

Yea, like I said I didn't even notice it when I pre-ordered so it's not what a care about either. It feels like it may be a bit of a gimmick and something that could stop working in a short amount of time if it ever works well at all. If I open it up and find it to be cool, great, if not then I'll ignore it.

:rotfl yea, that seems like a typical action figure toy pose - not something I would do. I would think with all the talk from collectors wanting "realistic" and "natural" , and "movie accurate" poses this isn't something many people would care about being able to do.

Good luck with that.

I'd say it's 50/50. Approximately 2-5 times more likely than Hot Toys producing a sculpt that looks like the actor it's supposed to portray. ;)

I think you're being optimistic. Hoth Han and Luke looked like anaemic dolls.

Anaemic is an odd choice of word because I haven't heard anyone complain that the production piece lacks color, only the opposite, that they're too tanned/colored in fact.

The new Luke uses a completely different process for the sculpt and by all accounts, production, including paint application will be quite different. I don't know for a fact whether factories have been changed, but I expect to see something drastically different than ever before starting with this figure. If you look at HT's progression, there was a point where they just went from "meh" to "great" in the production paint department - Sideshow, like many others, is more than capable of doing the same.

I consider the Hoth releases we received in-hand to be very close to any prototype that Sideshow ever displayed or photographed. Besides, you can more easily fix a paint job than you can a sculpt. I'm already going custom sculpt for Han.

I'm just getting both. If SSC drops the ball, the Hot Toys idealized sculpt with the superior finish is what I'll opt for.

Very interested to see if the pilot is the game changer for SSC.

Pixelpiper is the new SSC apologist.

How can I be apologizing for and how can anyone be criticizing the production quality of a product that isn't out yet?

You'll never see me giving a product nor work more credit than it's due. So far the prototype from HT has a "meh" sculpt and so far the prototype from SSC has a "yay" sculpt. We'll see how things shake out in hand, but plans wouldn't be plans if they weren't made in advance, so based on what we've seen, it's SSC head on HT body/clothing for ANH Luke.

In the past three weeks I've been called:

Sideshow apologist
Hot Toys apologist
ThreeA apologist
Star Ace apologist

Phew.

If we go four weeks, then also Threezero apologist.
