That looks fantastic. I'm really looking forward to this. I'm just not to happy that we might have to keep swapping out the arm for the ignited saber look like Obi-Wan

Is this the production sculpt?

JC Hong posted that photo 29th May.

Still not as blonde as Cap...

Luke had some light streaks from the sun in ANH but you can see he's not a blonde and has plenty of his natural darker hair that comes through from the roots. I wouldn't mind if they lightened it some or somehow put some streaks of lighter color in there but I am not sure how well that can be executed. His hair isn't one solid color and I am just not sure how well they can paint multiple colors into the hair. You can find a medium between the light and dark too but that's not really his hair over all hair color either. In fairness Evan's hair isn't all the same blonde either, but that's because they bleached it because Captain America is supposed to be blonde. Luke's not really a blonde even if he has some bleached out blonde streaks from the sun in ANH.

What I don't want on my Hot Toy Luke is this... (though I love it on the actual vintage figure for the sake of nostalgia)

So they sculpt these by hand or with zBrush or something? Pretty amazing when you the sculpt that close.

I've seen a lot of photos with the artists using hand tools, but can't imagine that works well for production unless they use digital scanning; but that seems like a backwards way to go about it, especially given that scans still need clean-up (at this stage, I think).

The skin texture is relatively easy to sculpt digitally; what's impressive is that they get a high enough resolution cast and don't bury the details in paint; but I'm not clear on the workflow and processes involved for mass production.

Unless those tools are just brushes.

I never said make his hair solid blonde, i said it needs some blonde brushing.

If they can execute that well I'm fine with doing that, I'm just not sure how well painted blonde streaks onto molded hair really can capture and simulate natural blonde streaks of real hair. Even if they get the colors "right" it may make the molded hair look even more unnatural. Without seeing someone really accomplish this on the longer kind of hair Luke has (compared to Cap's short hair) I'd rather they keep it simple than try to too hard to simulate something with a sculpt and paint that may not be something that can be done well.

Am I am saying the hair is perfect as it is? No. I am saying I am fine with it as it is and it doesn't need to be "fixed" if adding some blonde streaks isn't something that can be done well.

Yeah, I think the hair does need to be brighter, no doubt. I really like this Luke sculpt. It's highly idealized and I don't think there is as much ANH there as much as other people seem to think, but it really doesn't bother me. For me there are certain characters that get a little bit more of a pass in the likeness and/accurate, Luke is one of them. Vader is not, same goes for Obi-Wan. This Luke will do though. And Leia is absolutely beautiful. Spot on.

Yeah i have no no problem with the sculpt at all for luke and leia, their best so far in OT line. Though if i had to gripe a little i would say luke doesnt look quite as young as she should. Like his face is a little more mature/older looking, where as in the 1st film he looked very teenage like in the face. Still an instant buy though if mp holds up.
