is it just me or is the HT batmobile looks slightly thicker body then the actual car? perhaps to fit in all the electronics or whatever, but it seems like its a bit bigger.

hey guys what is the diffrent this batmobile version with the returns version ?
other than black rims

i think the biggest different between the 2 is the type of gloss the black paint has. in the first film it seemed to have a duller shine, then in Returns it seemed to have a shinier gloss. the same can be said for keatons batsuit, the Returns suit had a shiny surface compared to the dull bat "skin" look of the first movie.

This is kinda like the difference between Vaders helmet in TESB and ROTJ.

Besides the black rims on the Returns car, the bat symbols in the center are bright silver (or just look that way in contrast with the black), the main body paint is slightly glossier, (but not super-high "mirror-reflective" gloss), the gas caps are painted black, and it has windshield wipers.

Also the armored shields design is different. It's glossier and a different shape than in '89. Also the shield effect is done differently. in '89 it's a composite animation (stop-motion style) in conjuction with an actual full-sized real prop of the complete version, but in Returns, it's all cgi.

That's all the cosmetic differences I can think of now. There's also a few new gadgets and features for the first time in Returns.

No, you're right. I remember all the worry that it was too short when the first pics were released. It isn't, it's just the right length, but it is too tall. I don't think it's to accomodate the electronics though, as much as it is to make Batman fit a little easier (a perfectly scaled 1/6 Batman would not fit in a perfectly scaled 1/6 Batmobile...without first altering one or both of them).

Yeah the height of the body from the ground to the canopy is much beefier - presumably to squeeze Batman in the car. I actually prefer the beefier look of the Hot Toys car compared to the real car, but it also makes the car look out of proportion to the figures - as if it's a 1:5 scale car parked next to 1:6 scale figures.

Yes, but all of which are included with this Hot Toys release :)

Then i'm impressed. I have a D90 and the same lens and I can't take shot as nice as yours. Though I shoot mostly in jpeg cause I don't have the patience (nor like) to do post work with RAW.
Thanks, Drakul!

What were people's shipping cost from SSC? I just did an estimate for PO and it said $104 to Texas. :horror
Sideshow quoted me $109; Alter Ego shipped it to me for $43. I would have never bought this thing for the $740 it'd have cost to get it from Sideshow.

Oh yeah, thanks. :slap He did ask what the difference is between this (meaning the HT model) and the Returns car...but I read and thought "what is the difference between the 89 and Returns car?"

You're right, the Hot Toys version covers nearly all of the features movies that are practical to recreate. Like other's though, I really wish it had included the pull-out engine (and the pop-up hood vents while they're at it!)

Same here. I got mine for under $600 through AE, but it would have cost me over $150 more buying it from SS. As much as I like this thing, I never would have paid almost $750 for it.

Agreed; I was going to pass altogether if I couldn't get it for close to $600 shipped; my final bill from Alter Ego was $623 :)

I believe you're correct that he wanted to know the difference between the cars; I just wanted to clarify because there seems to be a number of people assuming a "2.0" version of this car will appear with the Returns license - when in fact this car represents both the 1989 and 1992 films in terms of features.

The pull-out engine and pop-up hood vents would have gone a long way in my book in terms of justifying the price tag. I do feel this collectible is missing one killer "that's incredible!" feature to really put it over the top.

I love this collectible. I've had it nearly a week now and I love it more every passing day. I was truly speechless when I pulled the cocoon off and saw it for the first time in person. It is an amazing, wonderful thing and I'm so glad to have it. But that said, it is my first (and last) 1:6 scale vehicle; I've only ever owned 1:6 scale Hot Toys figures before this, and I do not feel it's anywhere near the same level of high-end collectible status that their figures are.

I agree with Rorywan who said it was overall pretty cheap looking. It is a big plastic toy car. I'd go so far as to say this is basically the Barbie Car for our Batman. The details just aren't as sharp, refined, and intricate as you see in their figures. A lot of that is inherent in the design for this car - the details weren't very sharp. But even still, I feel Hot Toys could have done more with what was there (and making improvements to the source material is not unheard of for Hot Toys - I mean look at how much better the new Classic and Scar Predators headsculpts look compared to the ****ty rubber masks they're sourced from). Take for example the carseats; they're nice, but they don't look like carseats on the collectible - they look like toy car seats. The dashboard on the other hand is of course incredible.

Realistically for what it is, I feel this would have been priced fairly at $300. The finish and kind of plastic used has a lot to do with that "toy car" feel, I think. I know the car is supposed to be matte and I wouldn't want the super-glossy look of the Returns car, but I don't feel the body material or the finish is right. It ought to feel and look more metallic than it does. There's a difference between a matte metal look and a plastic car look.

^ Brilliant post. I agree with most of it. I'm thoroughly impressed with the HT interpretation of the 1989 Batmobile as I was with the Tumbler...but I still believe both had some room for improvement in the detail level. I like the paint as it looks, but I agree, it would have been more accurate if it looked more metallic.

STILL waiting for a return RMA from Sideshow. :tap

I am still awaiting even an e-mail response to my initial damage report. I understand they say 3-5 days... But with it being a common issue, it seems like the turnaround might be a little faster?

And personally, working in mail order myself, asking customers to wait 3-5 days before even replying to a damaged product notification is kinda nutty. No way would most of our customers would be cool with that. If something arrives damaged, the customer usually wants it replaced ASAP. Waiting 3 to 5 days before even starting the process is (at least where I work) unacceptable.

Man, I live in Europe and has this on preorder from an European dealer. I have been told they will get it late August. After reading all this I kinda hope HT will delay the shipment in order to improve packing.

Like someone here mentioned. It will be very expensive to send it back if damaged, and you might not be able to get a new one because they are all sold out.

So I am not that happy now, I feel I have a 90% risk of getting one with scuff marks, and I know that I won't return it unless it is very very very bad.

How long before we see a modded/repainted one?

I remeber seeing a tumbler that some dude took apart and repainted, BD and all. Looked amazing.

I'm betting as more and more get into collector's hands we'll see some modified ones. We've already seen Jedster's wheels painted black.

Yeah I think that was r5150s:

I repainted my second Tumbler in the prototype desert camo BB-style (clean, not weathered like TDKR).

https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109044

I would mask off my 89 Batmobile and spray the whole thing in very dark grey (almost-but-not-quite-black) metallic if I had a second one. After doing the camo tumbler I'm not nervous about doing a complete repainting, but I'd still like to keep one stock.

Maybe with all these returns, SS, BBTS or someone will offer an opened, scuff-damaged one at a discount.

just to update anyone who cares....

I called and spoke to AE and I told them that I wanted to return the Batmobile. At that point, the person I was speaking to replied with something along the lines of this...

well hold on. maybe I can call SS and see if I can get you more than $50 back.

I said no. they had their chance. i would like to return this for a refund.

so, to be clear, I have no issues with AE. But the fact that they told me that they could get more is ULTRA shady to me. Seems like SS is trying to low ball us, and then they will POTENTIALLY offer more if you tell them to stick it.

so for anyone on the fence....just remember.....the squeaky wheel gets the grease. its really sad that we are left negotiating this mess. i really wanted to like it, but SS and HT combined for a screw up here that I cant participate in any longer. Im out. Keep your batmobile. choke on it.

FYI, I received my RMA number email on the 3rd of August, then finally got my UPS label email yesterday, the 5th. In the past, usually the UPS email comes in a matter of an hour or two after the inital RMA email.

Shady indeed. Personally I think AE quoted you $50 because they are taking a percentage of what SS is offering for the trouble and the fact that they say they MIGHT be able to get you more so they don't have to deal with the hassle of you returning it. It also seems like SS is dragging their feet on the returns for this as they don't want to have to deal with the returns and shipping. Mine is all boxed up I'm just just waiting for my RMA to drop it off at UPS.

Yeah that was the one I was thinking of, both super cool repaints. That takes ballz man.

As much as these are stunning models straight out of the box, the added scuffs and nicks elevate them to looking like more than just a big plastic car imo.

I've said too much, peeps around here don't appreciate scratches a whole lot......:chase
