If they can make a tea joke here then icy no reason not to make a Double Sherlock joke in IW.

Anyway, I liked it. Not great but good enough. Almost "IRON MAN" good.
All the actors did awesome voices, glad I went with undubbed 2D first.
IMAX3D this weekend.

I wanted to watch it in IMAX but they only have IMAX 3D in Canada. Do they still have regular IMAX (without 3D) in the US?

Just watched it. Oh boy.

The start is solid, but not great. Its a first act that works but doesn't really blow you away (like Iron Man (2008)'s first act or Cap: TFA's first act). Biggest problem is they dedicate almost no time to the consequence of said first act. They're in a hurry to get Strange to The Ancient One for training - which is why the second act is pretty much where it begins to unravel. The comedy increases abruptly and begins to demolish the seriousness of it all. A barrage of random one-liners sucks all the cred out of various important exposition scenes.

The third act is cool with some fun visuals (looked pretty damn impressive in IMAX 3D) but its way too simple. Literally all Strange has to do is
is use an Infinity Stone to annoy Dormammu into submission to save the day
. From there on out its a neat formula ending (and two pointless stingers).

At this point Marvel Studios should just have a disclaimer prior to the start of these films saying "If you're over 30, prepare yourself for a kids movie. And not a very good one at that." Literally every Harry Potter movie is miles better than this movie, which pains me to say as a huge Doc Strange fan.

Its depressing because Cumberbatch is good in the role and Mikkelsen gave his typical MCU one-dimensional villain his all.

7.5/10

*The fact that this movie has a higher RT score right now than Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge is a perfect example of how the critics at this point just don't give a ****. Feige can keep delivering formulaic crap for the next ten years with these MCU movies and they'll continue to eat it up with powerful enthusiasm.

Again I'm struck by how your words would seem to suggest a much lower score than you end up giving :lol

My approach to rating movies, with CBMs as examples.

10/10 - Perfect. No matter what genre, the movie was a complete win from start to finish. (The Dark Knight)

9/10 - Near Perfect. Almost spotless but off by just a hair. (Spider-Man 2)

8/10 - Good. Works for the most part but lacks noticeably at times. (The Wolverine)

7/10 - Mediocre. Good premise compromised by poor execution. Overall wasted opportunity. (Ant-Man)

6/10 - Poor. Lacking in quality to the point where there are little to no redeeming qualities (Thor: TDW)

5/10 & below - crap in various degrees. (Punisher: War Zone)

Had a blast with it, it has hit my top 5 MCU films at number 4 behind the Cap trilogy.

I just had one question:
So does Thor know that Loki was playing as Odin? And how does that make any sense, if in none of the movies this is being spoken about. Unless I assume the scene takes place after Ragnarok, which doesn't make sense; also we have to deal with the fact that Volstagg and Sif to the Aether to the Collector.

They really ****ed up Thor's stuff in the MCU...

I rate films mainly based on personal level of enjoyment moreso than taking an objective critical approach.

10/10 - Maximum enjoyment, I love the film, I don't see any need to dock points as I don't know how it could be improved.

8/10 9/10 - Thoroughly enjoyed the film but I'm not sure yet if I'd go so far as to rank it alongside my all-time faves but there's a chance I might. Repeat viewing would quite possibly push my score up

7/10 - Good. Something I can't quite put my finger on brings it down a tad. It may or may not benefit from repeat viewing but at worst my rating would stay the same.

6/10 - An OK film but there are things I definitely know could have been better. Maybe repeat viewing would help but, man, I don't know if I'm arsed. The mood may strike further down the road, I'll see.

5/10 & below - I feel like I wasted my time. The film either bored me senseless or it downright annoyed me. I therefore won't watch again if I have a choice in the matter.

I saw this tonight and it was fantastic. The story was engaging, the performances from all involved were great, and, visually, I was in awe. Walking out of it, I was almost a little disappointed when I realized that, eventually, the only way to watch this will be in your living room at home, because it was such an awe inspiring experience on the big screen. Blew my expectations of it being "Inception 2.0" away. It's getting harder and harder to rate these Marvel movies because, gradually, they're going to exceed a top 10. Hell, even a Top 5 is hard. I'd probably put this one up there, but then I'd have to rethink where I placed Guardians, Ant-Man, and Iron Man, and that's too much.:lol

I feel like they had the perfect in and a tremendous opportunity to do a Sherlock joke and they blew it.

When Strange and Mordo were running through the Mirror dimension, and Strange says "this was a mistake," I was desperately hoping Mordo would reply with "no ****, Sherlock," but to no avail.:lol

I think most of your list is reversed :lol

They're probably saving that one for later

That would've been perfect. :lol

I got a bit of a Sherlock vibe when he adjusted the collar on his cape a bit.

Just saw it. I liked it a lot. I left wanting more but I take it as a good thing. Looking forward to more Doctor Strange movies

As a fan of the comics, both early and current, I thought it was a pretty good origin story for Doctor Strange. A little of the comedy was out of place but that's the Marvel movie method it seems. Definitely needs to be seen in 3D, which I don't really like but it works so perfectly here. Not going to give to much away so I'll stop here but obviously if you enjoy Marvel movies, this ones another winner for them. Go check it out.

Being aware of Strange and his powers is best I can describe my knowledge of the character. I returned from seeing the film and thought it was decent. It's the standard first movie get to know you formula which worked for me to build my knowledge of his personality, power and challenges. I found the characters, sorcery and dimensions traveling fun. I didn't find anything particular outstanding nor horrible which for me makes it a solid introductory films.

I understand his part in Infinity Wars so I'm looking forward to how his character progresses.......7/10
