I like the SEs. I never know Boba voice was changed though. Why did they do that? Can anybody tell me?
Also, what scene is the "Bring me my shuttle" missing from? I never had a LD, and bought the VHS used and have never played them or the first enhancement to the original movies, so I have no idea where this "Bring me my shuttle" is?
This will be cool, but the ONLY thing I dont like about the SEs are the floating Han over Jabba. I would have rather they put in a video animatic of some guys boot kicking a stuffed felt Jabba-like tail and them cut back to the original film showing Han on the other side of Jabba!!! That's my "Han shot first" :emperor
The other thing is Hayden being in the apparition scene. I understand it, I see why they did it, but it didnt seem necessary. Didnt he redeem himself and Return to the Jedi in the end, as an old man??? Why would his spiritual projection be his self at 20??? I could rant on, sorry.....WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY:emperor

i dont know why he did that either. didnt hayden do enouh damage to the PT... he didnt need to come into the OT and mess things up. i understand lucas had to tie things together and show thats what happens when you become good again. if he HAD to put the young anakin in there, why didnt he put Ewan in there too?? (i love Sir Alec Guiness so im not saying to cut him out, but i just dont see the sense in having the young anakin with old obi wan)

They changed the original Boba Fett's voice because we now know what it was supposed to sound like thanks to Jango's presence in AOTC. Since accents are genetic and not due to our environment, Boba grew up to have the same accent twenty-five years later...

:D

I liked the way Hayden played Anakin overall. He got on my nerves some on AOTC but in ROTS I thought he was pretty awesome.

Oops! I was trying to be sarcastic!

But I do know for a fact that diarrhea is hereditary...

It runs in the genes.

Then I'm screwed!!! You have no idea how terrible it was growing up with my Dad and only one bathroom.

See, THAT makes sense! The Young Anakin thing doesnt make sense! OR, perhaps the accent gene was grafted out by those damn Kaminoans...that is until GL realized it! Naturally, he saw this genetic mishap and corrected it. GO GEORGE!!!:monkey5

I saw this news, and I think people are missing out on one of the most exciting parts of the announcement: Star Wars: Lego the original trilogy is coming out the same day too! Star Wars Lego is probably my favorite game for the x-box, and I can't wait to get the new one.

Oh, and some old movies are finally getting the respect they deserve. I am glad for this as it showcases the efforts of ILM in the early days, and to not release these versions was an insult to all of those who worked so hard in a pre-digital era.

but I am not bitter!

For those complaining about the 2.0 sound,

I assume these will be mastered from the same source as the THX LDs. That is the 70mm print 6-chanel mix encoded as Dolby Surround (2.0).

It sounds great.

It's the quality of the material that matters, not the encoding algorithm.

If you have a good receiver, it can take that 2.0 (Dolby ProLogic) and give you a matrixed 5.1 or 7.1 mix.

Again, it sounds really good, as that is how I watch my Trilogy PAL LD to DVD rips.

While not true 5.1, it will sound very good. I can get more technical if you want but this should make sense to anyone who knows a little about home theater.

SE likes and dislikes:

ANH: I don't like the Mos Eisley stuff...but I do like the CGI Dewbacks (Look sir, droids) and I've kinda gotten used to the end battle replacement shots. It'll be fun to see the old stuff again.

ESB: Besides what everyone has mentioned, I really hated the music cue when Luke reaches for his saber in the Wampa cave -- its totally off from the way it played when I was a kid. Picky I know, but you'll see what I mean in September. That said, I do like the Wampa's new drool. And that whole Vader thing at the end is awkward and useless, especially his stumbling walk down the ramp when he returns to the Executor. The only thing I do like is the new backgrounds out the windows on Bespin. It does open up the sets.

ROTJ: Nothing here I like, except maybe the removal of old Anakin's eyebrows. And I guess I do like the toppling of the Palpatine statue on Coruscant.

I can't wait for the HD-DVD version in order to see and hear Dianne Carroll singing in the "Super-Dee-Duper-Extended-Version", which will include everyone's favorite holiday special edited in! :monkey5

I found this link on slashdot. This is the news story I remember reading. If you think George is really listening to the fans, you need to read this.

The best part,

Dude, the guy is a MULTI-BILLIONAIRE. Do you honestly think adding a few million bucks will make that big of a difference in his lifestyle?

Lucas won't really make that much money on a limited release like this. Sure, he'll make a few million bucks, but he doesn't exactly need it.

I was going to post a similar statement also. I hope those complaining realize that the SE 5.1 mix has VERY different sound effects right? New effects were recorded and mixed into the sound track. Anything other than the original '77, '80, and '83 mix is unacceptable.

Anybody else notice how much Ben Burtt dialed up the sound effects over Williams music in the SE's and PT? It's almost like he wanted his own work to stand out even more. Thankfully, this should be corrected on this release.

I really don't care WHY he does it. I'm getting what I want and so are millions of other Star Wars fans out there. Whether he did it for financial gain or because we begged for it, or both, or neither, I'm getting the OT. The real OT. I love my SE, and that will always be the definitive for me, flaws and all. But I'm pleased and surprised to be getting the OT. This release is uniquely for our generation, because Star Wars now belongs to our kids more than to us. It's been passed on, and this is our final gift from GL.

Here's my teat and my $40.

As for Hayden appearing instead of the other guy - I thought it was supposed to be because Anakin "died" the day Darth Vader was born, so when he becomes one with the force it's his spirit as he remembers himself as Anakin.

...or something like that.

I agree. Still funny to see him standing there like he belongs after you seen the original cut.

Actually this is one of my favorite changes to the OT if not my favorite!

I was 8 when ROTJ came out in theaters and I saw it for the first time, even at that age I was stunned at the ghost of Vader at the end... I remember thinking, "That's Vader? That old fat fart is Darth Vader!?!" In that instance, everything magic that was Vader was destroyed for me... All because of some goofy fat old man!

I'm glad they replaced the ghost at the end with Hayden... Big Time!!!

As for the voice change of Boba Fett, it makes sense to me since they are all clones. The voice to me is not that noticeable, I do notice it but it's not that "in your face"... I have a friend who is a bigger fan of Star Wars than even me and has seen/watch the OT more times than me and he did not notice the voice change for Fett, I had to tell him and even then he did not believe me at first.
