Art figures avenger game out lately.it's hot toys quality and cost only $110 including shipping
i cannot imagine that licenses cost that much high as they want as to believe.
With the same thinking we have had to pay $40-$50 for neca 7 inch figures
just for license issues.
Hot toys just saw ebay increasing prices for older products
and saw that customers were willing to pay $200-$250
just to get their hands a figure that cost initially $100
so hot toys thought ...hey i can do the same...why someone else gets my profit
the only problem is that not majority of the people are willing to pay this
kind of money nowdays
i believe this is going to be a boomerang for the company because they will turn off
people from the hobby...
Not majority of people earns $3.000 to $4.000
and are willing to spent monthly $400 to $600 on figures.

Nothing you said is based on any logic, let alone any facts...

Actually it makes a lot of sense and he raises many good points.

I agree with the notion that the primary reason for higher HT prices = the fact that they saw figures that they released between 2008-2010 seemed to consistently go up in value on the secondary market.

So what did they do?

1. Increase production runs (e.g., CR Superman is still not sold out)
2. Increase average pricing

Hot Toys is increasing their profit margin, and I don't see that as a negative. They work on producing the highest level of craftsmanship in the industry and they deserve to be paid what people are willing to pay. Doesn't everyone think they should be paid more? Let the market determine the prices.
On the flip side, when your prices are increasing you better keep the quality with it, so issues like the eyes not being 'squinty' enough or slightly too close together, or the nose being slightly off are legitimate concerns. You are being charged top rate, you have every right to expect top rate work.
As you can see in this thread, there are plenty of people who shout down critics saying "Shut up, its good enough, and be happy its offered."
The truth is that the "complainer" is the best friend of the company. The worst enemy is the guy who silently stops buying.
I think this is an amazing figure. Some many not want to admit it but the likeness is off around the eyes, but still is far superior than what was offered a few years back. I was set on not buying it but once I saw it I have started considering it. My problem is that once I go down that road I may buy the whole team and to me it depends on individual quality.

Well I would like to have the entire team, but after buying all the Ironman MK's I have to draw the line with buying more than one of anything else. I really don't need two Thors, two Black Widows, and three Captain Americas. The price of doing so would bankrupt me in no time.

As for the quality, the prototypes always look pretty good, but when the actual production pieces start coming out personally I've noticed that it's been slipping lately. Whether this is because HT has too much on their plate or because of production numbers I don't know. I've had problems with the last three HT figures I’ve bought, 2 of which were manufacturing. I was able to resolve all the problems through Sideshow, but the thing is for the money I paid for the figures two of those problems should have never existed.

I’m living on a fixed income and with the rate of the price increases I can see me having to give up on this hobby soon; don’t like it but I can’t print the money. HT making big profits is good for them now, but I can’t see how good it’s going to be if their figures keep getting so expensive (along with production defects) that more and more collectors can’t afford them anymore and stop buying.

I would like the whole team too and I sure as hell can't afford it. I will definitely be getting Cap, possibly Thor.

Cudos to both of you for expressing how you'd like all the Avengers but may not be able to afford them WITHOUT dumping all over any of the product or turning this ugly.

from what i have read across the interwebs im assuming Hawkeye and Black Widow have a really good dialogue scene.
I think he will kick ass..he could be the darkhorse of the movie as he is the only one that really hasnt had much of a role in the previous movies....

Without question HTs is capitalizing on their popularity and after market pricing. Supply and demand is economics 101. However, HTs must have missed the supply part of class:cuckoo: POs have quickly become a thing of the past and NRDs can eff off.

They can't have it both ways - it's not sustainable

apparently a lot of Archery enthusiasts are not happy with Renners archery technique. They're saying when he draws his arrow, he is bending his hand up at the wrist and its throwing off his entire form. He's not fully extending. They are also very critical of him needing 2 arm gaurds when he suppose to be an expert, makes him look like an ameture. They're very upset about this :lol

I thought it was funny because HT has sculpted his hand with his wrist tilted up, so you can't even correct his form on the toy :rotfl

And that is what I fear. You can see it now with the backlog of product at SSC and other e-tailers. Greed is a crippler and I hope HT's learns a balance of profit margin, supply and demand quickly.

I also think HT is raising prices of standard fig to also help with sticker shock associated with bigger items and figures.

I think its safe to assume The Hulk and all the 1/4 scale figures will have huge price tags and the higher pricepoint for these standard guys will perhaps help those upcoming prices to feel more reasonable. Or at least that's probably how they reason it... Gotta draw the line somewhere though.

Agree with that as well. I just pick up my HT from ebay or watch out for sales now. Stuff isn't selling out like it used to.

:exactly: you can still find alot of figures that would have been soldout had they released at last years prices.

Spiderman(red/blue) as well as classic and shadow preds come to mind. So there's definately a slow down in purchases trending based on these higher prices and that's how we can get HT to come down or cap their suggested retail price so these just don't keep climbing.

I also believe HT is making a lot more of their figures. T1000 and Superman come to mind.

I think we'll see a reduction in production by year's end, if Avengers and TDKR stuff sits around like the majority of items released in the past 6 months. There will be some balancing off.

I count 20 instock 1/6 HT figures at SS right now, and I already see some are starting to be discounted. This could also be why we haven't seen releases of some licenses they've had for a while, they don't want more stock piling up. If RE Alice isn't selling out, retailers can use that same assumption and think that the Suckerpunch gals won't do well either.

Clearly HT and retailers over-estimated the demand based on previous years' sellouts and subsequent after-market prices.

It seems to me HT has been making a lot of figures in terms of production runs and we saw that early on. I haven't had a hard time finding anything second market since the Rambo 2 fig with the exception of the the secret project mark.

But your probably right as well. Greed is powerful and ruins all.

Yep they are. And that is also why on ebay at least a lot of these figures are selling way below retail. Besides Superman - Goblin, Alice, Odin, Sweeney Todd, Tracker Predator, Shadow Predator, & Mark V etc can all be acquired for below retail - even below PO price most of the time. I think HT has saturated the market with not only larger production runs but also a large number of figures in a short span that aren't necessarily 'must have' characters.

Btw - I am liking this headsculpt more and more. Especially for a Bourne Legacy bash.

A question for those who have been buying HT for years.

When figures were less expensive and selling out at PO or soon after, I assume those who weren't able to PO had to resort to inflated prices on the secondary market to get them.

what were things like here when there wasn't enough supply compared to now that every figure DOESN'T sell out?
