I think there is a slight misconception about the early days of HT. They were always high-priced compared to what was out. HT was at about $80+ when most figure were $25-$30. There was a small window of time when HT started to get popular and if you didn't pre-order you'd have to resort to aftermarket prices. What people forget is that many of the highly sought after figures (today) sat on shelves and were discounted. The production runs were definitely smaller. Today's Hot Toys isn't what it used to be; good or bad.

Ah the good ole days. The head sculpts were 50 / 50. Hmmm not much changed beyond the price :rotfl

Nobody complained when wolverine, ghost rider, or even black widow were easily found...now look at the prices...

A company producing too much of a product does nothing but hurt their numbers and in most cases help the buyer's wallets.

I think the real problem is stupid buyers. They are throwing off the numbers and dollar amounts. Some people are paying 3 times the original price of a figure just a few years after its release. If people refused to pay such high after-market prices or even high retail prices things would be different.

You cant blame Hot Toys for charging what people are willing to pay...

With that said, I dont find the current prices as outlandish as others.

For example, Wolverine was what, $160 plus shipping? Came with almost no accessories, very plain (albeit accurate) clothes, and some would say a bad head sculpt.

Now, they want to charge $180-190 with free shipping for figures with tremendously more detailed and complicated suits, better likenesses, more accessories, and higher cost of production.

I honestly dont see a problem...other than people being mad the cant or dont want to pay...

You can't factor in shipping when shipping has nothing to do with how Hot Toys sets their prices.

And yes, this figure is severely overpriced. I wouldn't get him anyway, just saying.

Watch what you say about Wolverine. The head sculpt wasn't that bad :wink1: In addition, HT developed an entirely new body for Wolverine which drove up the cost. Hawkeye is "new" Wolverine without R& D. He comes with bad sculpt, questionable accessories and high mark up :rotfl

Um...no.

Again, take Wolverine for instance. Before shipping I believe he was $160. SSC of course charged shipping because they didnt want to foot the bill.

Now we have Hawkeye for $190 with free shipping. But, shipping of course is not free and SSC is not just gonna eat the cost. They already factored it in. So in reality the figure would cost about $175 with an average shipping cost of $15.

You cant even argue with this logic unless you believe SSC is so nice that they are paying for your shipping out of the kindness of their hearts and all these other companies charging $170 plus shipping are so stupid that they are charging $20 too little and losing money....in which case you're probably one of those stupid buyers I was talking about before because you have now idea how it actually works.

And to say that this figure is severely overpriced when, essentially, its only $15 more than Wolverine was a few years about is absolutely ridiculous. It is way more detailed and comes with way more stuff than Wolverine...

Hey man, I love my Wolverine figure. I just know that some people _____ about the sculpt. As for the body, it is very unlikely that HT charged for all the R&D in Wolverine. They likely factored in how man times they would be able to use the body on other figures which spreads out the cost.

Regardless, my point is that people are willing to $500 for Wolverine when, technically speaking, it is a lesser figure.

The truth about all of this is, people will make up reasons to justify why they cant or wont get something instead of simply admitting they are either broke or are cheap bastards.

Cheap Bastard :wave

Ok, I am not a cheap bastard except for questionable sculpt on a second tier character who archery experts claim gives them a bad name. :rotfl

IMO Hawkeye will be a "peg warmer" like fore mentioned figs (GR, BW) to be had cheaper down the road or worst case can be picked up in Avengers 2 or 3. No rush to buy something which I don't think looks like the actor.

Wrong. HT decides what the MSRP is. Sideshow always sells it for the MSRP and gives their retailers discounts which enables them to sell the figures for less. It's just that now SS is wanting more and more customers to buy directly from them instead of buying from the online retailers like AE, SCS, BBTS, etc. so they decide they will offer free shipping to counteract the online retailers discount prices. Since more customers will buy from SS direct with this new policy, they'll make more profit as opposed to selling it to one of the retailers and having them sell to the customer. Basically they're selling it for $175 to the customer vs. $145 to the retailer.

It's simple logic. But what do I know, I'm just a stupid buyer that you were talking about before and I have no idea how it actually works...

Get a life bro before making insults to people over one post on the internet.

Good points being made all around. I take all of them with a grain of salt though since I don't know any of you personally and figure these are just your takes on the situation, albeit some of them sound very well informed, whether or not I personally agree. I don't consider any of your opinions to be any more correct than anybody else's, or mine for that matter. The only people I would "believe" would be the decision makers at HT itself, and even them I would think would be giving a "sugar-coated" answer. The whole thing just makes me think back to when this whole kind of thing happened in the comic book market. I was working at a comic book/collectibles store back then and companies just priced themselves out of the market with lesser quality product and larger production runs. If HT, SSC and other companies aren't careful they could just be hurting themselves in the long run. I'm no expert though and again, this is just my opinion and 2 cents.

You keep thinking that man.

I didnt say you were a stupid buyer. I said "in which case" which means if said case applies to you. I also said "probably" which means likely but not fact.

And just for the record, I do have a life. I just get tired of reading posts that arent right...

Thats exactly right. It doesnt hurt the buyers if the buyers are smart or disagree with the prices.

If the buyer thinks the product is over priced and over produced it will last for a long time which, in turn, will cause the retailer to lower the price. That is a good thing for buyers, bad thing for Hot Toys...

I think it was pretty obvious what you said and what you implied.

And just because you are 'tired' of reading posts that don't agree with your logic, doesn't mean you can say or imply whatever you like about someone else.

Being "Cheap" is totally subjective. Lets breakdown what everyone thinks is reasonable.
