Well this figure was released in what, April? Which means for those of us who are just buying the figure now, it'd been boxed up at the warehouse for seven months prior to opening. I'm not aware of a single report of someone opening their ED box to find a dried up crusty dome awaiting inside. So unless you're the first, I think it's gonna be fine
Yeah that's the one. It can't fall out if the missiles are raised in place, but when they're in the "resting" position that little piece falls out whenever I'm adjusting his articulation elsewhere. Since so many of the joints are ratcheted, the amount of force required to pose him makes that piece just fall right out.for that piece that keeps falling out... is it the little rectangular piece that rotates forward and back that you had to install that you are talking about??

I think one possibility is a chemical reaction with oils from hands; that would explain why they so far seem fine until they're unboxed. Could also be climate; salty or dry air both seem like possible culprits. Could be high-heat environments, too.
What's the crap everyone's been rubbing on their ED's? I know the original post calls for Krytox GPL105, but I'm not paying $18 for half-an-ounce!
I think you're right about that. I think it's a combination of the oil from our hands as well as how much you touch the dome.
If you watch Optibotimus' review of ED-209, notice how much he touches the dome when he handles the figure. Then watch his review of robocop. His ED209's dome is virtually disintegrating, and it's mainly where he was touching the dome.

I always wash my hands before touching my collectibles. I also made it a point to not touch the dome during assembly or after. More than likely it is as DeadLeaves says: a bad mixture of compounds. I also believe that all these people saying they have no issues on the poll have not looked closely with a magnifying glass. I was not able to see the cracks until I looked at the dome with magnification.
