I also don't hate the Endor battle, but I don't love it either. I enjoy the space battle way more than the ground battle, for obvious reasons. I feel like the ground battle would have been a lot more convincing if they didn't focus on the Ewoks so much. If they had a lot more Rebel commandos running around and contributing to the battle, or if a few ships landed carrying reinforcements, it would have been WAY better.

If it weren't for the space battle and the Luke/Vader/Palpatine showdown, I'd probably hate the Ewok stuff entirely, but there's enough distracting me from it that I can tolerate it.

Eh, for me the sight of those AT-STs stomping around in their awesome stop-motion way more than makes up for whatever goofy thing the Ewoks happen to be doing. :D

Yeah, there are some really cool shots and bits throughout the Endor battle. As a kid I always loved little asides like the ATSTs blasting the trees, and even just the shots of them prowling through the forest, dappled with sunlight.

There may be cheese aplenty throughout ROTJ (acting, dialog, creature design, etc) but there's also an almost equal measure of very cool stuff mixed in.

It's Saw's line.... and Saw, love him or hate him, is basically representative of every OT Star Wars fan of old. He's clinging to what once was and doesn't trust the new world around him. Yet when it comes time for him to leave, he stays behind... to die... with his dream.

:lol

Similarly, Krennic represents the PT -- pompous and overbearing, determined that he is singularly great and that everyone else is standing on his achievements. Yet no one pays him much attention, he's so annoying. So much so, that the OT (Tarkin) swats him away in the end.

Did you mean the PT, or PT Star Wars fans?:lol

I'm determined to love the PT in some way. To find some core redeeming feature, to let it speak to me in the way it was supposed to. It's like I must learn to speak in tongues, finally understand, then put on some 1970s sunglasses and do the subtle Jim Jones smile.

I have a buddy who still loves the PT and he's so arrogant about it.

It always strikes me as a weird combination but then there's those moments of doubt and I think about how much I liked that first TPM trailer and think I just need to take a look again, maybe with the kids next to me.

Most of the PT is like the 1989 Batman for me -- that movie is basically unwatchable for me at this point, I mean like sit down and watch straight through unwatchable. But I love the art direction, style, costumes, make-up, cheeseball effects, etc. I would prefer to look through an art book about Batman '89 than actually watch the movie, its just so poorly directed. TPM, AOTC and most of ROTS is like that for me.

I lived 2 years in the early-mid 90's with a roommate who had this massive 1989 Batman theater standee in the living room (took up a third of the room) - sad West LA stucco building on the outside, Tim Burton standee on the inside. Yeah, I can't stand that movie, but I like the figs (and batmobile) from it.

And yeah, my only way to enjoy the PT is through the art-of books - I still really like the TPM art portfolio (in the metal tin) and book. A "what might have been" experience.

Where in West LA?

Butler - before Ohio got nuts with traffic and the homeless thing got bad under the 10 overpass. It was a great neighborhood - a few neighbors happily bought "sealed stereos" out of the back of this van, only to discover it was a sealed empty box with a brick or something in it.:lol

I know that street well. I lived on Darlington near Barrington during that time. Used Ohio as a short cut to get to Century City where I worked at the time.

You were part of the problem, not part of the solution.:gah::lol

And nice... walking distance to my fave places on San Vincente. But hmm... were you close enough to hear the plaintive wail that fateful night?:horror

I tried watching TPM again a few nights ago, and I have to admit it did have a certain charm I never noticed before, as the dated CGI and stiff acting are starting to make it feel even more like some cheesy scifi movie from the 80s. But ultimately I still only made it about halfway through before it started putting me to sleep like usual. :lol
