I think a huge difference comes in how you present your thoughts too. There's critiquing in a constructive manner which can fuel fun discussion, and then there's the rip it apart as if the flaws are insulting you and how dare the company that produced do such a thing attitude that doesn't help anyone.

I like to think I'm the former, while I don't agree with things HT has done and find them interesting conversation points, I'm not upset by any means. If I didn't have a high end Maul and Sideshow's weren't an option to acquire at reasonable cost, I'd jump on this, but where I have Sideshow's, I'm looking at this from another point of view.

And of course we should. We have two choices of the same character. One soon to be up for pre order the other one just came up (second run). So the critique and the comparison HAS to be made to give the collectors the means to choose. Also if you just recently got the SS version you shouldn’t automatically sell it or get both just because the other manufacturer is Hot Toys.

I agree with this totally. The highlight of the SS sculpt is that Ray Park is in there and it's incredible. The PERS eye system for this one is nice, but hard to see from a distance, and the sculpt, while the pores are nice, doesn't really embody the actor. Perhaps they continue to work on this based off the iffy feedback. If they have an alternate head that would be a bonus with the robe, but until they fix this, this is an easy pass.

While this comparison shows the positives of the Sideshow sculpt, which is not 100%, it's not a fair comparison to HT, they may not match this shot but they look closer to something like these.

Still think those look closer to the ss to be honest... and mind you, I want the HT sculpt to be better as I’m gonna get it no doubt. ...but is the HT head really that narrow or is it camera distortion?

I kind of expect an extra sculpt in a DX set. And I would guess that would be it. I’d like that too.

You'd think if they were doing a second head we'd see it at the Con, why show off a head that's more or less same as the recent Sideshow figure when you have an alternate likely to be a huge hit with fans?

I think there is little doubt both heads are shot with completely different lenses.

Absolutely, in fact the Sideshow shot looks intended to match the film shot, that's why I grabbed reference images from other angles.

I'm pretty much positive the cloak will be included, at least I hope so so we can hide those pleats on the sleeves.

After seeing the Pers, I'm fully convinced on getting this one btw. Just really hoping for a second headsculpt as I'm really not a huge fan of the expression they're going with. Rotten teeth grin, or silent rage are my preferences for sure!

At the moment I also prefer the SS expression over the HT, but that might change with more shots/angles of the HT. I love the inclusion of moveable eyes, but am also not a big fan of the sculpted tattoos and horn prosthetics.
At the end is the day, Maul is one of my favorite characters (aesthetically), so I have little doubt I will pick this set up, and then mix and match with my current SS/custom where needed.

Yep, and they are probably teasing us with this one. Letting the details out slowly like with the PERS. It's not a bad strategy actually, especially considering a lot of people would have the SS version.

No doubt they'll let us talk about it (as we have been for the last 30 odd pages) then closer to release add in the details of the cloak and a second face or something. That will be enough to convince many that have the SS and were sitting on the fence.

Of course pure speculation on my part.

I remember reading somewhere that PERS is super brittle. Can anyone confirm this? Will Maul suffer from derpy eyes? I'm really hoping for a regular MMS release.
