I'm going to guess the eyes are poseable from the outside, you can roll them with your finger or a tool. Or that they are somehow moveable from the underside of the sculpt. But it's not PERS this time, so hopefully the top or back of the head isn't removable as that just seems like a bad idea.

Oh I guess I missed that it’s not PERS. would’ve preferred that. Rolling each eye will be a pain.

Well if you consider that the Darth Maul DX version without the Sith Speeder doesn't really include much more than Tarkin (came with a chair and scene-specific stand) and Luke Jedi (included a variety of accessories including the light-up saber, scene-specific clothes, etc.) you're really not getting a DX level of accessories when compared to something like a Bespin Luke, which included two bodies, portraits and costumes, as well as the weather vane. I get Bespin Luke was done years ago and would cost closer to $400 by today's standard, but prices should not have gone up $50 between the relase of Luke Jedi to Darth Maul wihtout something justifying it. My question was, is the the portrait, potentail tarrifs or something else driving the price up?

Look closer at DX15 Jack Sparrow $265 at time of initial preorder. Personally for me the high prices has exposed the realization that the money is worth more than the figure. Years ago the DX experience of “whats in the box” was far greater than the money you were paying for it. Jack Sparrow DX06, Indiana Jones, Jack Nicholson Joker, Heath Joker, both T2 hell even Sweeny Todd all for under $230. The price/whats in the box ratio made it a no brainer " take my money please”!! Today I’m not even excited about Darth Maul because I feel I am being ripped off with the realization that the figure is simply not worth the money.

Can you please identify each sculpt for us not-in-the-know.

thanks-
M

Updated these with a better shot of the HT sculpt...it's growing on me:)

Great comp... I think I do see just a touch more of Ray Park in the Sideshow v2; but the added depth and intensity of the HT sculpt really sells it.

I think the Enterbay Lee had separate eyes and honestly it's not a pain to pose them at all... I kind of prefer it since if the PERS is misaligned (which can happen) you can't fix it.

Odd.. I think as far as bare likenesses go that the SSC v.1 Maul has the best likeness to Ray Park.

Anatomically, you’re correct, the problem with that one even with a good repaint is that the sculpt focused too much on Park’s likeness and is too relaxed looking for Maul. V2 has less accuracy in likeness but better expression to the face and a better paint job which mostly compensated for the sculpt shortcomings. HT sculpt seems probably as close as Sideshow V2, but their paint scheme and hard sculpted tats are hindering the sculpt from shining.

Dude, thats exactly why I said it has the best likeness to Ray Park. “Anatomically” was the only thing i was commenting on. :lol

It’s a small thing, but I think adding the fresh tone highlight on the lower eyelid like Sideshow has would change perception of the HT head, Park always showed this so it’s part of the look and I believe a factor that’s making people feel like Sideshow has a better likeness to him.

Seeing the HT next to a photo of Park, the eye openings look sculpted right, but, because the strip of flesh tone is missing below, the wide-eyed illusion of Park in makeup is lost.

lmao

"Why didn't they perfectly emulate the makeup coming off on Ray Parks eyes"

I think the price uptick a lot of it goes to that extra head sculpt and maybe the fact it has PERS.

I think it comes with quite a bit as well. I do wish the base for the regular version came with the tatooine stand.

PERS, 2 heads and he comes with 2 LED lightsabers... but HT also know people really want a Maul and they'll pay extra if you call is Deluxe, DX, Limited, Special, etc.

So It’s not labeled PERS, so I’m thinking it’s more of like BR ..for those who don’t own BR, the eyeball system is better than PERS, so nice touch HT :clap

I feel like they slapped the DX tag on the version without the sith speeder just so they could charge $280 for it.

You guys buying the standard set need to subsidise the "with speeder" set. That's why there's a price increase. Simple really.

I'm fine with it as I'm getting the Super Dooper Subsidised Speeder version [emoji12]

Yeah I could live without the PERS and second sculpt for the regular, but since they are included the price seems pretty justified to me. Especially when you add in the cloak and the fact it's a popular character.

Now if they charge that much for Qui-Gon, it'll be a different story.

Despite the hating on the second sculpt, you can probably sell it for at least $60 or something to subsidize your cost if you really hate it.
