I am quitting SSC. I start using EU retailers. Though EU prices are higher, first, shipping is cheaper, and second, they don't charge VAT for me -so instead of paying full VAT + customs, I pay just customs. So, though base price is higher, I pay less. DX16 will cost me 297 USD including shipping and customs.

Which retailer did you use?

I also bought annual membership for 30 euros. It gives 10% discount which also decrease customs fee. I already saved 30 euro in 2 preorder which justified membership fee.

There is toy-palace in germany but it's more expensive.

The retail price in Turkey will probably be around 450-500 USD.

I’m glad they put up the version without the speeder for preorder. The speeder is cool, but I don’t find it to be critical to the character and it drove the price up quite a bit. Preordered the one without and I think I’ll be just as happy with it.

PO'ed the standard version at BBTS since there's no NRD. The main selling point for me was the robe, as I would have just waited for a good deal on the SS figure otherwise.

Am I the only one that isn't keen on either headsculpt? I much prefer Sideshows Maul!

I like the portrait on display at SDCC. It’s not my favorite depiction of Maul but I still consider it a good one. For me, Sideshow is more fitting to personal preference.

On my Facebook this morning, this came up as a memory, an acrylic painting I did in college.

Very in line with Sideshow’s look.

No you’re not the only one. But look at all the awesome stuff he comes with!? ...but, I sort of expected the price to be lower as their last DX was only 269$... so now I don’t know if I can allow myself getting him when I prefer the sculpt of the one I’ve already got (for way too much as well).... but unfortunately I know my addiction well enough that I’ll probably pre order soon...

For me, acquiring HT Maul is about enhancing my Maul collection, not replacing anything. I have the Hasbro speeder and for a short time, displayed my Sideshow on it, but it felt like a waste, and I wouldn’t buy 2 of the same figure to make use of it, but now there’s an opportunity.

Given the time I have to save up, I placed a preorder. DX16 comes within a number of items to enhance my Maul photography that I can’t resist for one, but when the photography is done, I can also mix and match parts between HT and Sideshow to make my own personal Naboo Duel Maul and use the leftover parts as a Tattooine Maul on speeder.

I will say this, Naboo Duel Maul will be using the Sideshow head for certain, but likely on the HT body, HT’s costume looks thicker and bulkier like the film costume and Sideshow’s thinner outfit would be better under the robe. Small detail but I love how HT pulled off the shaping of the undershirt collar around his neck, looks just like the movie and something that’s bothered me lacking on previous Maul figures.

Yes, as a Maul collector you can’t miss it. But if you use the HT for the Naboo look you’ll see the pleated sleeves... are you ok with that?

Thanx mate for the info. :hi5:

Excellent DX, been working on a Hasbro speeder for him to make it look half decent, and along comes HT and offers one up at an extra $120. Perfect!
I love both sculpts, so its all good, I think this is going to be one people regret missing out on down the road.

I expect Hot Toys to improve most of the criticisms with this figure before release. They have done it before with DXs. If you guys remember the Bruce Lee body and first Sparrow DX smirk head that showed the teeth, those got fixed as well as other non DX releases.

You guys just keep nagging on their social media like you are here and they will see it.

This is all I found of Reg Park kinda grimacing with mouth open.

^ That looks like Maul trying to be intimidating, the HT head looks like Maul angrily going to bite into a burger. HT does some facial expressions well, but I haven’t seen them execute and angry, open mouth well yet, even their Hulk looks off.

Each costume has flaws, overall, the pleating is an acceptable trade for a more proper silhouette. To date, Hasbro figures have overall had the best depiction of his costume, sculpted ones that is, and HT looks to get the overall look. Sideshow’s tailoring is nice but the fabrics are very thin and lose the heft of his costume, when you see him jumping and such in the movie, the fabric looks like it has a bit of weight to it.

Do I need this, no. Do I want this, yes. Question is do I preorder with or without speeder.

I am with you here -- I bought the SSC version really for the head sculpt, it seriously has Ray Park's likeness. The PERS eyeball thing is very hard to see from a distance, and stoic sculpt is still better on Sideshow's. The open mouth one is an "artists interpretation" of anger that they made without reference from TPM, and it loses Park's likeness completely--seriously its the head of Darth Maul that has the most detail and is the primary focus. I gotta pass on this despite all the accessories that they provide. I would have hoped HT would have nailed this one after seeing how well Dooku looks, but this is a pass until they make fixes.

I have to admit this figure is pulling me into wanting a few PT figures again. I bought most of the SS ones when they first came out, even had 10 or so of the Clones. I was about to sell all of it, then the SS Grievous and Battle Droids pulled me back from the brink. I've since sold all of the PT stuff that I had and was going with only OT and ST 1/6 figures... but maybe PT can have one small shelf. Maybe just a trio of Sith- Anakin, Maul and Dooku?

Darth Maul is more than the movie. It's garbage criticism. These figures are reflections of a character not 1:1 only things shown on film.

ESPECIALLY STAR WARS - there is more to all these characters then whatever is in the films.

Glad to know you're the authority on garbage criticism :lol I get that at some point in Maul's life he maybe made this stupid expression... but being this is a TPM figure you'd think a) they'd go with a more fitting/iconic expression and b) it would have been a better looking sculpt.

At the end of the day it's a non-issue since the main head looks very good, but seems like a bit of a miss from a company that usually gets sculpts and expressions right.

I didn't like the second head but it's not a big issue. The main things I am concerned is 2 piece glove and lack of ankle movement.

Yeah, I'm very surprised by the boots... with the great looking boots they've done for other SW figures it seems like a no-brainer they'd protect the ankle articulation on one of the most acrobatic of the SW characters.

i noticed Dx16 and DX17 are respectively Hot Toys 100th and 101st Star Wars PO.

That's kind of neat. Had no idea.

Dx16 is up at BBTS, not showing through the site, but just got the email.

No NRD for now.

Seems they are still experimenting with this on-again/off-again NRD for Star Wars.

Maybe they've found that people who preorder immediately are the type not to cancel, but the ones who take a couple days to decide are uncertain and therefore too risky and are more likely to cancel down the line -- thus they impose the NRD later to 'help that decision'.
